This is a show that had a mildly interesting idea, and ran out of jokes/adventures for that idea in MAYBE episode 3 if not sooner. The boys act feminine, like maidens in love and the girls act and dress like dudes, sometimes they explain why, sometimes they just are. It's every trope you've already seen, with no interesting take on any of them. It's one good couple carrying a show of three couples but sadly that good couple can only do so much.
Let's go through the characters real quick:
Suou: She's the prince of her college, nobody can tell she's a girl for some reason(it's
...
that tired old trope) and she likes Tokiwa, except she's mildly mysterious about it and is not telling him flat out despite literally inviting him to a mixer and hanging out with none of the other guys but him. The most bare bones "cool" character ever.
Tokiwa: He adds nothing. He barely has personality. Even as a maiden in love he's boring. Six episodes in he's still figuring out if he likes Suou and somehow couldn't recognize Suou when she was in her normal female look despite knowing her prior in that form.
Suou and Tokiwa relationship: Nothing to even note. No good moments. Nothing interesting. Nothing funny. It's like babies first anime romance. If you watched 30 romance anime and then tried to come up with the most cliche nothing happening anime romance.
Kohaku: Honestly we the viewers know almost nothing about Kohaku because she's given basically no time to flesh out at all. She likes Hagi but is even dumber than Suou and Tokiwa combined about it. She's the cliche character that fucks up her own relationship repeatedly with her own stupid decisions like cancelling dates or buying into very obvious misunderstandings. She happens to be in love with the worst character in the entire show.
Hagi: First off, fuck Hagi, I hate Hagi. Hagi is a character because the author had an idea for a one note joke. What if Hagi thought he was gay for liking a girl with short her who dresses masculine for her job? That's the idea the author had, it gets old after the first mention, but it's his focus for at least 6 episodes. He got the character of misunderstanding everything about love, overthinking it and never committing and it's as annoying as it was the first 1984979 times it was done in anime and manga. Episodes that focus on him actively harm the show and take away any slight enjoyment it otherwise had.
Kohaku and Hagi relationship: These two are dumber than hell and dumb themselves out of a relationship every chance they can get. They're not cute together, they're not interesting apart. They suck.
Fuji: The author got one relationship and two characters right, 1/3 and 2/6 ain't bad I guess. Fuji has a life and aspirations and her love life fits into it instead of being the entirety of it. Fuji is the best girl in the series by so far that it's not even fair, she's wasted on this show. Fuji knows who she likes, they spend time together, they are playful and funny and despite the guy she likes being a dumb puppy like boy it just kind of works
Asagi: This is said dumb puppy like boy, he finds a way to still be a good supportive love interest despite his personality. He's the perfect personality for the Fuji character, they work with each other perfectly. He is also wasted on this show
Fuji and Asagi relationship: if this was the entire show and you deleted literally every other character it would be great. Sadly this couple regularly is just in the background of other nothing happening or downright annoying happenings and misunderstandings of the other characters. They fit each other perfectly and every interaction you actually understand how they got to that point, and even if most humans aren't as ditsy as Asaigi, you can still see why Fuji might like someone like that specifically.
This review is a review of the characters because that's the entire show, the show is these 6, how they interact and not much else and when 4/6 aren't carrying their weight it makes for a dreadful slog of a show. If you watch this you will see two romances that have likely already annoyed or bored the hell out of you in 20 other things you've already seen, especially if romance is your preferred genre like me, this is skippable at best.
