Similar to another person who reviewed this anime, this is my first post.
I liked this anime. I liked the humor, the characters(sometimes) and that’s it.
I didn’t like this anime because of the main pairing. The age gap is something that is mentioned in the anime but no one ever thinks more into it. I understand that this show is set in a medieval setting but still it’s strange to me that everyone is accepting some girl bossing them around and being much too smart for her own good. I thought the anime would go with something I’ve sort of seen in a webtoon where the
...
girl is younger and the guy is older but as they slowly fall in love, everyone is aging. Nope, so far everyone is the exact same age and to me, Hadis does not look like a teenager. I kept thinking he was an adult but one character mentioned he’s a teenager and to me that does not make it better. Though the anime doesn’t care about making this pairing appear good or even bad.
The animation: A bit Clunky at times where there’s a lot of flashing around and still frames at fight scenes but it was fine.
The episodes: The anime is addicted to exposition. At the beginning of each episode is an exposition dump, during the episode is an exposition dump and when characters are introduced there is an exposition dump along with a stupid character thing that shows their names like anyone watching the show DIDNT JUST HEAR THEM SAY THEIR NAMES(My personally favorite though is the fact Uncle George didn’t even get his whole name card, just George). The anime also has a lot of interesting lore and world building but it’s always explained in such way that I’m confused listening to them talk about it and I have to turn my brain off or it’ll just hurt from the confusing lore.
The characters: I like the main crew but they don’t make sense sometimes. Jill in particular. Out of nowhere she has super strength and can casually fly with no explanation other than ‘Magic’ and me gaslighting myself into thinking this anime is a power fantasy. Jill is treated very highly in the show but SHE LOOKS LIKE A CHILD! She even acts like one too and has this mindset where she has to revolve her entire life around not making Hadis want to destroy both kingdoms in the future. Other times she’s seen to be smart, way too smart. Everyone in this show is so smart that I cannot keep up with their logic. A scene that confused me so much was when the sister appeared out of nowhere to negotiate a marriage and it just escalated into psychological warfare with everyone in the room. The sister to me looked way too young to even understand any of the words she was saying. Hadis is another character I both really like because he’s funny and interesting but also I find that he gets mad and wants to kill everyone over stupid things that Jill his (ew) bride has to convince him against when Hadis has said it’s his job to protect her when she does most of the work of not pushing him off the edge. I’m probably forgetting things but this is what I can remember.
The romance: Non existent. The show looked like it was going on romantic route but after 2 or 3 episodes they were already confessing their love to each other and doing everything a married couple does without the show pushing into FbI territory.
The pacing: Pretty good although the show never lingers on its dark themes, it always has to have a joke immediately afterward and then jump into the serious discussion only to have another joke. I also like the little segments at the end of the credits where it explains something that Hadis does in the show.
I’m only 10 episodes in but I do want to finish the show. It has good potential but it’s not super bad and it’s not very good either.
