Mixed Feelings
It's more of the same.

It's a direct sequel to MJP anime, If you just want more mecha action - this movie provides it.
Genetic Awakening doesn't put an exclamation mark for the ongoing conflict. We have left over aliens to mop up, let's do it.
If you feel like there are some plot threads that the anime left hanging, they are not elaborated in the movie.

Izuru is out of commission, that puts Asagi in the spotlight, which is cool.
Unlike something like Martian Successor Nadesico: The Prince of Darkness, the humor is still there and still the same.

Majestic Prince was ultimately about instincts vs altruism, ...

Turn A Gundam (Anime) add
Turn A doesn't preach about morality. It's not about a kid learning responsibility during a war and growing up.
The core of Turn A is how people are fucking stupid on the organizational level. Military disobeys its government because they think they know better. Multiple factions arise fueled not by lust for power but their genuine worry for their people.

This isn't typical for the franchise where each side appears to be monolithic (unless you're the "bad guy" then you're doomed for double crossing closer to the finale)

Tomino here wrote to his strength. While Loran is a simple character, he is surrounded by an amazing supporting cast ...

Didn't like the first one, don't like the second one too.

For a show purely about spectacle that doesn't want you to think (the enemy alien race is just called Space Monsters) it does like to talk and explain a lot. It's slightly less horny than Gunbuster (but still unnecessary so). It doesn't pretend to be Real Robot, what you see in the first episode is what you get.

Nono is a more enjoyable protagonist than Noriko. She is endearing, clumsy but full of conviction. The animation in general is great and CGI robots are ok.

It suffers the same issue: it doesn't know what its trying to ...

I don't understand who is the target audience of Gunbuster.
It pretends to be a Real Robot show with down to Earth characters and lots of pseudo science. Then you see that pilots in space don't wear any kind of a space suit. Then a secondary character dies within the same episode he is introduced in, and MC decides that she is now a hot blooded Super Robot protagonist. The titular Gunbuster appears that towers over normal mech and it has a completely different control scheme ala G Gundam. A lot of yelling happens, some monsters die, credits roll.

Gunbuster's key issue is its protagonist Noriko. ...

MF Ghost (Anime) add
Preliminary (3/12 eps)
Initial D was a story about Takumi discovering his love for driving and racing. When not behind a driving wheel he is an ordinary quiet student with a part time job. He learns pride, humility, love and friendship. Takumi has to be always reminded that no matter how talented he is, there is always a lot more to learn.

Kanata is not Takumi. Kanata is a professional racer tutored and Takumi's protégé. He is friendly, handsome and charming. Every female character he meets will keep reminding you of that. Instead of a slow burn romance of Initial D, the main female character is instantly head over ...

After Gundam and Getter Robo, I had high hopes for Mazinger Z. Impact was supposed to be a faithful adaptation of the original manga. And you know what?

Maybe Getter Robo Arc better left unfinished, than given to Go Nagai if that's how he writes his robots. There's so much exposition, so many plot twists for plot twists' sake, Impact is more about Ashura and Tsubasa than Mazinger Z and Kouji. Most Mazinger Z battles happen in the background while side characters are explaining more of the stuff that doesn't need an explanation. In Episode 3 Mazinger Z throws a single Rocket Punch and that's it.

The ...
