Disclaimer: The following review is opinion-only. You can take it with a grain of salt, just don't flame me over a frickin' OPINION... which apparently 99% of these people don't HAVE.
Once again, this'll be one-tier, short, because there really isn't much to say about it.
What do you get when you mix Dead Rising and toss in one of its psychopaths in, Left 4 Dead with its 'move from point A to point B' style, and Resident Evil, with a story that... is non-existent... you'd probably get Left 4 Dead 3. Now add a Japanese high school setting.
...
You get Highschool of the Dead... or Highschool of the Left 4 Dead Rising. Seriously, the story was pretty much, a giant outbreak of zombies from out of nowhere... so totally not Resident Evil, and thus a bunch of high school kids decide to fight through to save themselves from the zombies trying to turn them into one of their own.
...but really, who cares about that stuff when 80% of this anime is PANTYSHOTS, PANTYSHOTS, BOOBSHOTS, PANTYSHOTS! There's a reason I'm one tiering this review, and it's because of the almighty works of FANSERVICE. I cannot watch an anime that has a pantyshot or a boobshot every 3 minutes or so. I may be exaggerating, but the moment you get to the bath scene you will understand WHY this anime is so bloody overrated.
Zombies? Really? Forget that, let's give you another pantyshot! That always fixes things.
Like in my Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. review, I have to give this a fair to poor rating. I'll be lenient on this one and give it a 6. While the story and the concept of the whole anime is good, and the art style and music choice well done, along with the characters being superb, the fanservice just kills it for me. It almost went into Ikkitousen territory... OR WORST.
If you can out-pantyshot Kampfer, seek therapy.

As a pre-teen, I loved animes. I literally walked, stepped, breathed, drink and excrement out anime. During my time, my sister would drag me to the front of the house where the TV is to watch some anime on AXN and Animax.
So I'd like to thank her for giving me this little gem that is Starship Girl Yamamoto Yoko. It's fast-paced, action packed, quirky and light-hearted all at the same time. Well, anything will do for this one, and I believe it's actually better than that stupid Evangelion and the stupid expositionsWith that, let's get on with
...
the review.
STORY:
Usually, it's your typical standard good vs evil anime. 4 ordinary girls become goddesses of their starships to take out evil tyrants from destroying the world... or taking over it. I forgot, it's a REALLY old anime. The story's actually pretty good, with its extra bit of charm and quirkiness.
ART:
Well, this IS an old anime, and at the time, the art style isn't like today's, so it's slightly grainy, but the detail they give to the girls, the spaceships and the attacks are pretty much top-notch.
Oh and SHINY FOREHEAD.
SOUND:
Not much to say about sound except god damn that opening intro is classic. The music is pretty badass when it gets to the fighting parts. Really fitting especially at the last parts of the anime.
CHARACTER:
My favorite part, the characters. The 4 heroines are really different in terms of style. Yoko happens to be the average all-arounder, and then there's the shy one, the sporty one, and the one that wants to beat Yoko. The modern day version of Yoko Yamamoto would be Misaka Mikoto from To Aru Majutsu no Index/To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, since they both use the patented 100 yen coins to fire off giant f*cking lasers.
OVERALL:
This is actually a pretty good anime. I'm surprised as to something being actually better than Evangelion or Gundam. If you like action, but at the same time a light-hearted feel to an anime, then I suggest you pick this up.
9/10

Don't judge me on this line alone; I love some obscure anime. And thus I chanced upon Futari wa Pretty Cure about 6 years ago in a newspaper review in The New Paper. The preview picture looked a bit intriguing to me, so I gave it a shot.
Basically, what do you get when you pit your typical Mahou Shoujo anime, with a genius directing mind? You get what Sailor Moon failed to do. Pretty Cure is one of those easy-to-skip over animes because of its looks alone, but when you find out it's done by the directing
...
mind of DBZ director, Daisuke Nishio (which is why he's in my favorite people list)... you'll probably still not be impressed. But regardless, that's why I'm here. Let's get on with the review.
Story:
The sad thing about 99% of Mahou Shoujo animes is that, there really isn't MUCH story to cover at all. They're usually filled with filler, followed by a fight, followed by the girls WINNING the fight, followed by more exposition, followed by end credits.
Now when something important DOES happen, they actually focus on that one element throughout the entire episode, and it usually lasts about 3-4 episodes total before it building up to the final battle.
Precure is no different from normal Mahou Shoujo animes. It falls victim to filler, but really plies its trade when it comes to the important details. For story, not much to go on, but at least it's important.
Art:
The artists must have been on SOMETHING when they came up with this crackshot of a transformation sequence. The detail that goes into making the outfits for the girls, along with making the attacks really put the detail levels up to a high.
I applaud ANY artist and animator of any Mahou Shoujo anime, and Precure is no exception.
Characters:
For an anime based on friendship, overcoming hardships and fighting the darkness in our hearts, the difference in the two main lead heroines is like night and day. You have Nagisa, the sporty, tomboyish one and loves sports, and then you have Honoka, the strong, silent type who is also the school's resident genius.
See what I mean by night and day? How these two came to be friends is your imagination... but it's blatantly obvious how they became friends.
Overall:
I wouldn't really skip over this anime if you're an anime enthusiast like me. But if magical girls aren't your thing, you can stay away from this anime if you want. Those who do want action in something this cute should probably give this a shot.
Overall, highly, HIGHLY recommended.

Games turned into Anime are almost equivalent to Hollywood's curse of bringing games to the big screen; It usually NEVER works, and you get a botched version of the game that you liked so much that you wished it never was born. For example, Tsukihime was a well-known Type-Moon RPG filled with many different paths, but in anime form, the director thought taking the BAD END of everything would work. Not entirely.
In came Valkyria Chronicles. An anime adaptation of the video game of the same name, starring Welkin Gunther, Isara Gunther, Alicia Melchiott and other important members
...
taken straight from the game. Although a select few from the game were made of any importance to the anime, the rest happens to be in the back of the anime the whole time, or don't exist at ALL. But I'm getting a little sidetracked here. Let's start with the story aspect!
Story:
Normally, accuracy doesn't get you anywhere in animes, but this anime happens to follow the game's MAIN story. Emphasis on the word 'MAIN' in that one, because the game had many side-stories that also cover the main meat of some of the characters and gave a bit more backstory to some of the characters. The anime offers a straight-to-the-point, linear storyline that focuses mostly on the war and the war alone.
But hey, the main storyline really caught the attention here, so I'm giving that a 10 for linearity, smoothness, and accuracy to the game.
Art:
Holy cow I never thought Selvaria couldn't get any hotter when she went into the anime front! Um-- I mean-- FORGET I SAID THAT!
The artists really did good work catching the very detail of Gallia, from the Gallian Army's clothing, to the tanks, weapons and armor of both armies.
And dear god those jugs of Selvaria's are huge... UMM, MOVING ON!
Sound:
As one would have it, most, if not ALL the music was taken straight from the game. I was surprised when I heard Desperate Fight in one of the episodes, but it made that one battle scene way more epic.
And that's about all I can say about sound.
Character:
Every character has their own personality. It's human nature. Valkyria Chronicles is no exception. Squad 7 is intentionally the most weird bunch of the whole army because of its quirky character choices, from the very introverted Susie, to the Lone Wolf Marina.
The villains have that 'calm-before-the-storm' type deal. The look cool, calm and collected, but at war, they become completely different people. It really did bring the best out of this anime.
OVERALL (since I can't think up of anything in the enjoyment factor and this review is taking too long):
I'd highly recommend it to anyone whether they have played the game or not. The story is highly intriguing, keeps you at the edge of your seat, you don't know what's gonna happen until it does, and hell, it has its own tearjerker moments as well.
Well done, Valkyria Chronicles, you've withstood the Game to Anime test.
