A one-shot with a weird premise. Currently sits as the 23th worst rated manga on Mal.

The problem with F-ken is that it doesn't have much going for it. If it's meant to be comedic and funny, I definitely didn't feel it. This story also failed to be thought provoking or meaningful. The main girl of the story is pretty unlikeable but the story somehow tries to make the reader sympathetic towards her for some reason. All that's really left is it's very weird premise for some cheap shock value i guess. The idea is weird for sure but really nothing clever.

Granted, it's just a one ... shot so it won't waste much of your time but it's really nothing special. Doesn't deserve the title of 23th worst manga tho.

Im not much of a Shounen guy. What caught my attention about this manga is the fact that this is currently the 22th lowest rated manga on MAL. It begged the question: Is it that bad? Well...

If I have to describe My Blood Oath in one word, that would be milquetoast. The characters aren't all that interesting. Their personalities are pretty one note. There also isn't much mystery about the two protagonists to pique the reader's interest since pretty much every bit of information gets told about them in the first chapter. The stories on subsequent chapters mostly boil down to simple 'monster of the ... week' episodes with a little worldbuilding here or there. The fights themselves also not too visually stimulating. The art is just okay in general. It introduces some other shallow characters as it goes on but it doesn't matter since it ends after 18 chapters because the whole thing got canned.

So, to answer the question I asked in the first pharagraph. The manga isn't horrible, definetly not 22th worst manga material. However, it still doesn't worth your time since it's still pretty medicore at best, coupled with the fact that it ends so quickly and abruptly.

A well done spinoff about Helck's, arguably best side character.

To start of this review, I highly suggest that you check out Helck first. It's not perfect but I've found it to be a very good fantasy manga that starts out as a comedy and then becomes a darker adventure series. The manga's cute comic relief character is this yellow bird(?) called Piwi.
What I've found really good about Piwi as a character is that he radiates that charming, child-like innocence. Every scene he is in is pure dopamine to the brain and they always use him sparringly, just at the right moments. This spinoff does ... it similarly. Piwi here is like Totoro. The stories revolve around him but he is not the main protagonist. He serves as the main cogwheel to let the stories reach their conclusions. I think it's a very good way to use a character who, in the end of the day, isn't all that deep. The stories are also a lot more lighthearted, akin the earlier chapters of Helck.

In conclusion, Piwi: Fushigi na Ikimono is a wholesome and fun read that is a nice extra to have once you've read trough Helck (which you should) It's also very short so it doesn't waste your time and the cherry on top is that the book also includes a few 4-koma stories which are also just funny and adorable. I don't get how is this manga currently sits below 7 in ratings. It's a crime.
