This is a weird one. I absolutly love and adore this show and its characters but I can easily see how they are not everyones cup of tea. I am actully surprised so many people like this show.
I feel like a lot ore meybe even everything depends on if you like the main characters ore not and while Reg and Nanachi are my 2 favorite characters in fiction and Riko makes my top 10 I can easily see how people may view Riko as annoying and dumb while viewing Reg as boring. Nanachi is the only character I think will apeal to more people but

she comes in late so its just Reg and Riko at first.
Riko is resourcefull and courages but a little to careless. The thing I like about her is probably somthing most people found annoying. She loves her Adventure. She makes this crazy decicion to go on this deadly journey and while its Regs protection and a good chunk of luck that keeps her alive(although its not like she does not do her part), she gets exactly what she wants out of this Adventure. She is happy and I think in a way she even apriactes the hardships of her Adventure. And that is satisfaying. I also like how she keeps the spirit of the team up. She is a source of emotional comfort fore Reg and a little to Nanachi aswell. And I like how apriciativ Riko is when it comes to her allies. And she has this "character that has no super power but still takes action" thing going fore her. Like I said she is courages and resourcefull.
Despite loving him I found Reg harder to describe. He is physicly tough but mentally actually way more fragile then Riko. He also can be very observant. The complement each other well.
Reg is very dependand on Rikos emotional support. I would also describe him as a loving and caring guardian Angel.
The relationship of those 2 are very endering to watch which brings me to my next point.
This show does not have a lot of fights ore should I say long fight scenes. There are encounters and chase sequences but if you are in fore the action go look fore another show.
Also there are a lot of scenes where the characters just sit down and enjoy a good meal. They are a coozy and kinda there to just enjoy the characters interacting and talking to each other. To me those moments are super importent but I can see others founding them really boring.
A lot of the story is just them going down in to the Abyss. Traveling the layer, interacting with the creatures there a bit and move on. Its a journey and there is some stuff happening latter but that is what the story is basicly. I can see the story fall flat fore others aswell.
Art and music are amazing. Not much else to say.
The show gets dark so buckle up. It deserrved its ranting.
But I noticed Rikos character takes away a lot of the "darkness" of what happen to her specificly.
It was her decicion to come her so she is responsebile fore what happens to her but she also can take it and bounces back fairly easily. Its kinda cool how this show makes me not feel sorry fore a character I love.
I think you can easily tell if you like this show if you watch just 1 episode. It does a good job of delivering a feel fore the show and Riko as a character and a little bit of Reg aswell. If you watch episode 1 whats on display is what you get. Just keep in mind it gets darker latter on. So I think after episode 1 you should relativley easily be able to tell if this is your cup of tea ore not.
Nanachi is a good character but I dont think she can carry the show if you dont like Reg and Riko.
So it all comes down to the question if you like those 2 ore not.
The rating of this show that is attached to this review only reflects my feelings of the show not how I think it will apeal to others.
