The normal Shin Chan TV series is mainly for shits and giggles, and it does not really try and have a "message" or some deep moment. More mature themes and absolute brilliance of story-telling and character development is saved for Shin Chan Movies which there are like 30 of.
I grew up on Shin Chan, Doraemon and such so I have my nostalgia biases circulating in my blood as I'm writing this review but I am absolutely certain that Crayon Shin Chan is worth a watch to at least get familiar with the characters so that you can watch the movies which are DEFINITELY worth ... your time.

Listen, the first scene/trailer has a baby (the mc) declaring his own name seconds after being born...


And, if you saw that, and saw 2~3 episodes filled with more of same WTF moments like that and think that this is the stupidest anime ever and have strong negative feeling towards this anime to the extent that you bother to give this show less than a 5 on MAL and write 2+ paragraphs about how bad it is, then you're taking yourself a little too seriously for a person that bothers writing anime reviews on their own volition.


This is the best bad anime this season because it ... makes you ask the question "is it supposed to be satirical?" at every scene by throwing you a bunch of cliche dialogue, story progression and character tropes you can imagine for a power-fantasy anime.

This anime does very little well but that doesn't matter, because I can enjoy stupid shit like this, laugh, leave a mediocre review and say "its not for everybody," and move on with my life.


If you want to see some stupid shit and laugh at how stereotypical yet enjoyable a power fantasy show can be, give it a shot.
