TLDR: I tend to be quite harsh with Donghua; they often try to minimize production costs and have much shorter episode lengths, resulting in smaller, less developed stories being told per episode. Japan has a much more robust animation industry and history, so some may consider it unfair, but Tencent and Billibilli tend to be behind many of the most popular works, a company worth billions of dollars. Daily Life of the Immortal Demon King often subverts this trend with decent production, sure not One Punch Man levels, but much higher than 95% of Donghua, especially when many solely use trashy PS2-level CGI. However, this

season, it feels lost; the characters need further development, and the comedy has gotten stagnant, yet not unfunny. With the current direction, we've explored each episode's concept to some degree, even if it doesn't align with an earlier episode. The characters must undergo personal growth, and a proper challenge to the MC is needed, not a comedy gag. The series has had great action moments in the past, and this is exactly what is missing from this season so far. Nobody cares about the irrelevant three in the cast of the four characters around the MC besides the love interest. However, she hasn't had many further developments with the MC. In this Donghua, you can feel 100% confident knowing none of the main cast will die; this series puts comedy above all else, even story development that would make the viewers more invested/moved. Many anime also have this issue, but they tend to be shitty anyways; it is fair to compare this series to great anime as it had and maybe still has the potential to rival them in quality; at the current rate, this series will not, though...
While this season is not bad, and we are only five episodes in, much needs to be improved for me to recommend this series to the average anime fan. If you enjoy Donghua, you probably will end up liking it anyway. But if China wants to be competitive with anime, Donghua like these will not give enough soft power for Donghua even to be picked up by many anime fans. I'm still going to keep watching, but considering the past three seasons have ended with ratings of 7-8/10 for me, this is the worst season at a preliminary 6.

FYI this is less of a traditional review and more of some important points I want to bring up regarding this great anime. What I love about this series is the attention to detail Studio Trigger put in to this anime. They make sure to include all the user interface and sounds from the original game like text sounds and calls ringing and also have made the series canon to the video games and the universe of Cyberpunk. Trigger really does not hold back and i's refreshing, I feel like many anime studios would rather prioritize making an anime more accessible to different age ranges
...
at the sacrifice of not having anything which would not be typically okay for a younger audience., Of course it's not like Trigger just decided to make it a more mature anime for the sake of it. It is on Netflix which means they don't gain money from ads on TV. However, it still is a fresh of breath air. The world building and atmosphere is something else. It's not intrusive, you can know nothing about the games and still understand what is going on in the anime. However, seeing the same Highway entrances, cars and buildings alongside some of the weapons from the games in the show is a really nice touch. Especially when considering that they both take place in the same universe. Two more things I want to bring up are the sound design is amazing, it really puts you in the world of a cyberpunk dystopian city. The weapons sound the same as the games, whenever someone fires a gun it sounds CRISP. Finally, the 10 episodes are quite restricting, this show really needs more time to tell the story it wants. However, since the show is just so immersive you'll most likely overlook the pacing to some degree. Taking away my bias this anime would be rated around a 7.5? But the fact that I love anything Cyberpunk and played over 200 hours of the game oblige me to rank this anime a 9. While this really isn't a review I hope it helps you decide if you want to check out this anime. Also props to Trigger for adding a Mexican protagonist, love that representation.

This series is excellent for those who want a mockery of the basic demon king/ main character dies and is reborn trope (this series isn't technically an isekai). Quite frankly, this series is hilarious to watch because of how insanely OP the main character is, he's essentially the child of Ainz Ooal Gown and Saitama with Goku's powers put into a world full of magic-using plebs.
Plot: 5/10
If you came here for a fantastic plot, then this isn't the show for you. I can't tell if this show is either ironically a mockery of the demon king troupes in anime or just a washed-up piece
...
of shit. Despite this, I often find myself looking at this show as a comedy so I can laugh at the magnitude of the absurdity going on throughout the episodes. I noticed a few reviewers mentioned that the show skipped some content already, which isn't a huge issue. However, this resulted in awkward pacing as we're just at a magical school within the first few minutes of the show.
Art: 8/10
Not much to say quite frankly. It's clear the studio put in the effort, but it's not something eye-catching like an Aragi art syle. However, the art has clearly defined characters and fight scenes without a single use of CGI as of now except for that castle scene (That castle scene was funny asl tho, so imma throwing in an extra point ;) ). If you want to watch just one scene from this show, then check out that castle scene!
Sound: 7/10
Great intros, outros, VA's, and the fight scenes sound great. That's about it.
Characters: 7/10
As for the characters, the MC is the only one who piques my interest, don't expect to find any waifus. The two twin girls our MC first meets are "bland and blander," and the first of our servants for the demon king looks like a catholic pope who turned edgy by wearing skulls and, for some reason, has a metallic mouth on his neck. The demon king is the star of the show, so don't pay any of the other characters much heed. Like I said earlier, watch this show for the comedic value, don't watch it expecting the next Rem, Zoro, Goku, or Light Yagami.
Enjoyment: 10/10
On a level of comedic genius as the likes of Kono Suba.
Overall: 7/10
