This is easily the most indecisive I've been on a series quite honestly. Warning, this review is utterly dependent on the quality/resolutions delivered within the 2nd season as this is not a complete story as of writing. After so many anime/donghua, I've noticed the more you binge the more you cannot help but develop a slightly obnoxious mindset of thinking you know everything going on in the 1st ¼ of the show, off of troupes/ events you have seen play out before time & again. I went in to this on the first episode expecting a virtually historic animated account of some part of Chinese
...
history I have never heard of prior to viewing. Quite gladly (now anyway), I was completely ignorant to any details, really, as the synopsis even does extremely little to give you an actual full scope of the plot. Trust me, that actually may be a good thing. I find it quite apt that the small amount of information you can find about it including the little MAL briefing are questions themselves rather than definitive information, because the first half of the story had much that vibe itself if that makes any sense whatsoever. I don't know quite how to describe it actually. Is it a time travel thing? An isekai? Am I complete and utter tripper? How in the actual flying **** do they have Da Vinci wingsuits & a wholeass gatt in what I was assuming is ancient China? Etc... For the first time in a long time I really enjoyed not knowing where the hell this story was going however, in a good way. As consumers it is my belief that we are generally lazy and expect everything to be spoon-fed to us instantly, whereas this show does a unprecedentedly amazing job of feeding you small pieces as the story unravels. Don't get me wrong, I found it quite jarring myself at first and immediately attempted searching for information via google, but I am glad there's literally nothing about the show online in one selfish aspect, because the mystery ensconcing the narrative was as result sublime. I will say however it does almost every genre pretty excellently: comedy, action; you name it. If you fancy yourself a show with some absolutely hectic war/fight scenes with some majestic sound effects I implore you to come peep this beautifully animated ahh masterpiece. 🫡
In my region the program is available on Rakuten Viki (not sure about elsewhere)

Hmmmm. Never disliked a movie more ngl. From here on out is full spoilers but that death scene has to be easily the most avoidable death scene in any piece of media ever made, it actually made me crack up laughing. The dudes lived his entire life knowing he can't touch humans, and even we are reminded of this fact 1000 billion unnecessary times through every character he meets (as if he's never heard it before). It's like 50% of the plot is warning him that he's gonna die so dont touch anyone ever, so i wonder what could possibly happen at the end of
...
the movie? Shock horror, he proceeds to do exactly that, of course. Don't get me wrong, I could easily remove every braincell in my head and get over it if it was for an actual genuine reason or purpose, like to finally actually touch the girl he likes or some garbo, but he chooses to catch some stupid kid that literally just tripped up and fell over to stop him getting a scraped knee or something. No way is he that ignorant that he just forgot he can't touch people in one split moment, he's lived his whole life under that one single rule, he's never touched anyone ever so it's not like it is automatic muscle memory or something for the man 😭 rahhhh most irritating movie ever created. How is it rated 8.3, MAL is so strange sometimes.

I sadly watched the entire 1st season of March Comes in at 1.25x speed due to a friend's recommendation and truly I could not tell you one remotely interesting aspect the whole way through... I've seen some tedious ass shows I can get through with maximum binging efficiency, but that genuinely felt like maybe the most excruciatingly painful slog a singular piece of media outside of Evangelion has ever put me through. What is the incentive everyone is drawn in by please do tell me? It's literally a whiny ahh dude moving Shogi pieces for mf 22 eps in between 20 second long drawn out
...
shots that feel like they are meant to be deep or something. It doesn't even go into Shogi, the one thing that sets it apart from other shows. Like whatsoever! They just play the game. You can go watch two senile people play chess in the local park with more entertainment, plus actually maybe have something happen :○ (I know, shocking). Because seriously name me 3 even relatively important events within this series. To be honest I struggle to name one. I quite naively smashed through the whole season in hopes there was even potentially some kind of actual character progression or perhaps maybe surely one redeeming event that made everyone rave about it, but it ended literally exactly the same as it began, with what felt like absolutely not a speck at all of substance whatsoever in the middle. (I am aware of the genre that is slice of life btw 🧐🎩) I love deep stuff, honestly I do, but it felt like it was just trying so damn hard to be meaningful with every sentence/shot it delivered, with no reason whatsoever to be doing so at all. Almost exact déjà-vu with Evangelion ngl. With an accompanying equally annoying orchestra of cicadas to boot as the entirety of the wholeass soundtrack. Thankfully I can't quite put MC on the level of Shinji's over-privileged grating, infuriatingly b*tchy unprecedented whininess, but god damn it boi is it close. My hoemies & I have all been through substantially worse on a daily basis i swear that, and in real life the more sobering fact is that you'll be ostracized instantaneously for being anything like these aforementioned genuinely depressing characters. I feel like I'm missing something because all my friends on MAL rate it so highly too. I can say without a doubt top 3 most monotonous troupe ass shows I've ever had the misfortune too come across & its not 3rd. There are thousands of shows with actual events out here fellas/gentleladies and we're watching 22 episodes of other people's deadass backs playing a board game. Sh*t is wack.

The most wholesome sh*t in existence. Every character could with ease be in my top ten I just love the buggers, I know a lot of people including my friends who hate, and I understand completely when viewing from a critical lens, but personally can't wait too see where this show goes. A genuinely unique experience, I don't know why people compare it too Overlord. Perhaps with the OP MC troupe, but god surely you can see past that, as for me it does not define the show. It is more about world building and relationships, without the excessiveness that comes from every other anime.
...
I think everyone would agree battles could perhaps be longer but this man just smacks much like Saitama so I truly cannot blame them.
