Hello, want to talk about anime or something?
Slayers & Slayer!
Just some guy that likes anime, got into anime from Adult Swim/Toonami. Watching things like Trigun, Yu Yu Hakusho, Detective Conan, and some Dragon Ball Z. Before I knew what anime was I did watch Pokemon indigo league, Yugioh, and Digimon before I found Toonami. I was like wow Anime will do things American Cartoons will never do. Just made this MAL account to keep track of Anime/Manga/Light Novels I've seen, want to see, or own. And to talk about anime with anyone really. I'll rate anime and manga on how much I enjoy it, and ill drop anime I find unbearable or ones I'm unable to watch.
The Slayers is my all time favorite series, and I think Lina inverse is the best protagonist ever. I found the first season on Youtube by searching for Slayer music. After the first episode I was hooked in to the entire series. Also part of the inspiration to join MAL, to find others that also like the Slayers. Think I found others.. maybe.. probably? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If anyone wants to talk about Slayers please do.
Mainly prefer comedic fantasy swords & sorcery, though more of a sword slasher kind of person over sorcery. Metal & Classical are my favorite genres of music, really amplifies my enjoyment of anime. Like that one scene in One Piece where they play Dvorak's New World symphony no.9. Also like video games.

What graphic novels do you have and what are they? I'm a little confused as to what it's about. You don't mean that it's the wrong film book, do you?
Oh, also, some people get into this and some don't, but I'd recommend it, because usually people who get into it after seeing Slayers have also seen this one before that and got into it.

If you want my advice, read the LN or manga. The LN is the best way to go but it isn't done publishing. If you want something satisfying with a conclusion, he manga is done and covers up to volume 17 which was a good spot to end even if the story didn't continue past there. Meanwhile it's just a matter of waiting for the continuation of Passione's adaptation.
On the topic of adaptations, you might also consider checking out Helck. As a Slayers fan, I definitely think you'd dig it. Great manga and it had a pretty decent anime adaptation (so far) as well. A second season hasn't been announced yet but I'm still hoping.
It's an old software, and I think Slayers Wonderful is region-locked. I don't think there will be any more Slayers video games. That said, they do sometimes collaborate with smartphone app games. I think it was a puzzle game.
Well, I think RPG is the best work, but I'd like to see it as a fighting game. By the way, the Super Famicom version is set as a continuation of the second part of the novel. So, the story after the second part is actually divided into three parts: novel, anime, and game.
I think the manga version of "Higaeri quest" is harder to get. Even when it was released, I didn't see the manga version in secondhand bookstores very often. The main Slayers novel has been reprinted, so I think it's relatively easy to get.
It's fine to collect the special novels little by little, but it's a pain, so I think it might be easier to just buy the whole set at once. But there's just no way I'd have the space on my bookshelf.
Some of the stories were in the magazines they were serialized in, so I have a hazy memory of which volumes I've read. But I still remember the covers of the volumes I've bought.
Special, wow, you were able to buy several volumes! I have volumes 15, 17 and 22. I think fewer people are buying the later volumes so they might be harder to get hold of. Which volume do you have?
Yeah, I kind of understand what you mean, because sometimes when I translate using a translation site too, I make mistakes in translation.
The bonus book isn't 98 pages long, I think it was more like 10-20 pages. I don't bother to check it though, because the book deteriorates after many touches. It's just an extra. Not that many pages. During the movie's release, they also sell pamphlets of the film, so people who would like a guidebook usually pay for that.
Some of the recent bonus booklets for anime movies actually have 98 pages, though.
I know Hajime Kamisaka participates in the anthology, because I read it properly without your explanation. The page count, though, was short.
Well, the game software itself is hard to buy because the console itself is old. I know that some people have played “Sailor Moon,” which is a more major game than Slayers, using an emulator or something to translate the translated version.
Having said that, I found the game software and the novel at a used bookstore where I went out on Sunday, so I bought them... Incidentally, I also found the entire “Higaeri Quest” manga, which is very difficult to obtain, at the stock warehouse where I was allowed to enter. I bought the manga that was next to it, though. I also saw a manga and some other short stories based on Hajime Kamisaka's original work. I think that was the first time I saw that one.
Basically, only Japanese voice actors come to mind when I'm reading a novel... sometimes I read the manga first, and then when it's adapted to anime, I feel uncomfortable because the anime casts someone who is not the voice actor I imagined in my brain. As for Slayers try, I really wanted to know what would happen next, so even though I couldn't see the real-time broadcast of the anime, I bought an anime magazine and read the commentary and predictions. It's fun, even outside of Slayers, to not be able to predict the ending or the flow of the story at all. Lately, I've been reading manga and light novels first, so I know what's going to happen.
The Rui Araizumi version of the manga was pretty easy to find at the time I got it and sold it. I figured if I wanted to read them again, I could just buy them. Now, though, they're harder to find.
There are no magazine covers in the photos. I threw away all my magazines. For the magazine, it has the title of the serial magazine, Dragon Magazine. I explained it properly and I explained the “special” to you many times, but it's sad that you don't get it.
Second photo.
Top row, far right: the booklet that was distributed as a bonus with the advance ticket for the Slayers movie or to those who were admitted to the movie.
Middle of the top row: first edition of the light novel of Slayers vs. Orphen
Left end of the top row: Slayers Delicious
As I've said many times, the “special” is not the main story, but an outside story. It refers to the series of light novel novel novels in which Naga appears. Maybe, and I've said this many times, you should read Wikipedia properly if you don't understand it.
So,
From the right side of the second column, volumes 15, 16, and 17 of the main Slayers series (first edition, with obi) Next to that is the Slayers anthology (with Naga, Gaurii, and Lina on the cover), and next to that are Slayers Specials 22 (G Hunter Volks) and 17 (Little Dark Melody).
The bottom row is all about Orphen the Magician.
The anthology has Naga, Gaurii, and Naga on the cover, but they weren't the novels that appeared in the trio at the same time. To begin with, since it's an anthology, almost all of the book's stories are drawn by people other than Kazu Kamisaka. I don't think there were any novels that came out at the same time, or I've never read one. The one where they appear as a trio is, I think, more impressive in the Sega Saturn game. Well, the Super NES game can also have three people in a battle party at the same time by combination.
Higaeri Quest is a good one, you should check the details properly. I didn't think I'd be asked such a rudimentary question... The manga is in volume 7 and the light novel is in volume 4. MAL also properly registered the light novel in volume 4. Look carefully!
https://myanimelist.net/anime/2966/Ookami_to_Koushinryou [Original, has anime original content]

So aside from swords & sorcery being one of if not my favorite genre, I'm also a sucker for romance and Spice and Wolf is probably my favorite overall. It has some economics elements to it as well and involves quite a bit of dialogue so if that's not your thing you may not like it. Before the remake aired earlier this year I'd gotten into the habit of watching the original once a year usually around the Fall season. All differences from the source aside, it's still quite good. And I've read the manga 3 or 4 times.
No issues with the pose itself really. It's a very faithful recreation in that regard. But yeah it's the talismans and the newer pauldrons since she didn't have them yet. Way to call out the thing she's sensitive about though! lol
To answer your question, I guess the picture on the cover of the book. I rarely choose by title. Also, I sometimes choose authors I've read before, somehow.
Oh, and here's my favorite first Slayers movie.

When I read a novel, I imagine I'm reading it with the voice actor from the Japanese anime. If I had read the novel first and watched the anime, I'm sure some of the voice actors would have been uncomfortable...
I guess that's the difference between what I like about anime and novels. I think I like the anime a little more comedic elements. I like the novels to be a bit more serious. And as for the anime Tri, I rented and watched the video at the time because it was a story that wasn't in the novel. It was funny because I couldn't predict how it was going to turn out.
I have read the manga of Slayers written by Rui Araizumi. I've already sold it, though. I can't read the ones not written by Rui Araizumi because the drawings are different or uncomfortable.
The Lost Universe novel I have at home was a version with a new cover for the anime adaptation.
I also found two copies of Supesharu on the bookshelf when I thought it was missing. I think the booklet on the left side of Slayers vs. Orphen was a movie pre-sale or a bonus you could get the same day. The smaller one on the right is Delirious, of which I only had one copy.
Yeah at one point she does get clocked but if we're going by percentages she bodies everyone for the better part of the ep. I think his father was terrified of her too.
I can't 100% recall without going to look but I swear that my memory is telling me there was an illustration page that showed Noonsa being eaten in the novel. Might be worth going back to double check for the sake of my sanity. Nevermind, I did go look. Yeah he just disappears. It was funny in the anime though. And now that you mention it yeah Wizer coming after her for the crime of being Lina Inverse was a bit funny. Good callout to Seigram too. I feel like neither he or Zuuma were done real justice in the animes. Same with the way Zanaffar was changed from its more wolf-like silver beast form. I'd like to say it'd be nice to get a remake that follows the novels more closely like we did with the recent Spice and Wolf series but then the questions are, would the original crew be able to do it and if not, who could possibly replace them? If anyone but Lisa and Megumi were to voice Lina in EN/JP I don't know if my heart could handle it.
Also since we brought it up, here's a cool fanart of Lina doing her original Dragon Slave pose. Great pic but if we're being true to source and it's based on her from the first season, it has an error that I wonder if you can spot.
Hmm. I don't know that I'd pick based on a scale of favoritism as much as I would how memorable they are so I'd probably just go with some that are most memorable to me. To name a few though I could start with Slayers Perfect since it was my first experience with the series. The first Dil Brand/Explosion Array gets me every time. Also the scene where they're fighting the "such and such strongest guys" on Mipross Island. The King being too touchy and getting drop-kicked is a good one. I'd have to say the best is when Lina in her dream tells Rowdy to hurry up and then he takes over the sky with his face and asserts his authority. That shit kills me.
Continuing with the Special series, in the Specials OVA it was funny to me every time someone badmouthed Jeffrey and his mom popped out of nowhere and owned everyone. Also love it when Lina and Naga are mirrored and don't know what to do with themselves. In Slayers Great everything from the moment when Lina is sealed in the Lina-chan golem is pretty funny.
In the main series...hummmm. In season one there's the very first Dragon Slave of course. The entire "that time of the month" exchange between Lina and Gourry. Noonsa getting eaten. The first Giga Slave. Gourry and Zangulus fighting on a log while floating down a river. The cloning incident with all the mini-Linas and mini-Gourrys. Lina remembering to pay back Sylphiel for bonking her head while she was out of action. In NEXT all of the first episode is really great. Amelia remembering Lina and Gourry causing mischief while they're causing mischief right next to her. The way Zelgadis instantly switches sides when he realizes he's been bamboozled. The first Dragon Slave again. Lina wanting to do the pec flex. Lina blowing everyone up after the Maiden's Prayer. Lina faking her death to get the drop on Kanzel. The horse costume Dragon Slave. Auntie Aqua being an instigator trying to get Lina to be true to her feelings. In TRY I gotta shout out Filia threatening Lina with Luna's message. The balancing temple episode was pretty funny too. Jillas getting the last word with his missile was one of the crowning moments of the season though.
REvolutionR was okay but doesn't really stand out that much to me. For me as a fan it was great after so many years to have more Slayers but it just didn't feel like it captured the magic of the original run. Maybe that's just nostalgia goggles but I also didn't really like the way it adapted Zuuma. He felt like way more of a threat in the novels.
Delicious is small, inexpensive, not many copies are printed, it's been recounted, and if you're a fast reader, you can read it in about 10 minutes. I think a lot of people read it and then got rid of it.
I like the first movie version, so I don't like the later ones that much with Naga in them, including Return. Oh, and Mr. Becker has the same voice as Captain Megre. I've never cared much for him, though. I think I laughed more at the fact that Mr. Jeffrey had the same voice actor as Xellos.
Yeah, it was supposed to end at volume 15. So as for the comments written before volume 15 that the ending is set, I mean the ending of volume 15. No one thought that a third part would begin. I don't think the author thought it would be unfinished either, since it seems that he had a major illness after Part 2 was completed and the publication space is too slow... I'm thinking that it will probably be unfinished. Worst case scenario, I think volume 17 will be the last volume.
Volume 17 is like the beginning of the third part, so I think there will be four or five more volumes if I finish it properly. I'm a light novelist who doesn't always meet deadlines, so I'll be lucky if the next volume comes out within the next three years.
Well, I think what is actually more unbearable than Naga is his own sister. I don't get to hear about her past at all.
I saw the anime version of “Baccano” first and found it better than I expected, so I picked up the novel at the library's disposal market. The “Boogiepop” series is a complete story, but I never found it depressing. For a light novel, the atmosphere is dark, though. For me, it counts as an easy read.
The title of the “Gaiden” was changed from “Special” to “Slayers Smash” to coincide with the start of Slayers Revolution. In the afterword to the first volume of Smash, Hajime Kamisaka states the reason for the change: “It would be difficult for newcomers to come into a novel with this number of volumes (30 volumes of short stories alone).
If you look at Wikipedia, you will find this information. Incidentally, there is also a mini-bunko called “Delicious,” but all of that is re-collected in the “special” version. Probably, of all the novels, this one is the most difficult to get...
The movies are almost in order, since I actually went to see some of them; the OVA was last, since it must have been pretty late in the day when I saw it properly.

Gag Month”, as the name implies, refers to the comedic episodes in which the main story does not progress for about a month... I think it was from NEXT... I don't think there was any muzirushi...
In NEXT, it was around episodes 14 to 17.
TRY refers to episodes 15 to 18.
Well, I think the only people who care about it are the fans of the work.
There is only one “Pokemon Shock” episode, and it's episode 38. If there were several quirks, they would have been banned from the airwaves.
Favorite Pokemon...I guess Pikachu.
The author is Hirotsugu Mori, and his works are “Now and Then” and “The Moon is a Device of Yuwetsu.”
I don't see it registered here either.
Light novels by Kuwabara, Mizuna, titled “Schwarz Herz Gestahn” (Schwarz Herz Gestahn)

In case you're wondering, every author has an anime adaptation of their work.
Slayers extravaganza = special. The short stories with Naga in them are more like extra editions, special series. I think it's a little confusing because it's a translated way of saying it. Oh, the main story...you mean the new characters, Luke and Milina? I missed them.
I'm not sure which series you are referring to, so people who like Slayers here usually refer to the first series as “Muzirushi”.
I started with NEXT, but by the time I found out the name of the series and the airing time, it was already the last episode, and I read the 8th volume of the continuation of the novel after NEXT ended, watched the anime of Tri, and finally watched the 1st series, so I guess I watched it pretty discretely. I would not recommend this view to others.
As for the movie, if I had my way, I would have liked to have seen the first movie in a movie theater.
I watched “Pokemon” in real time from the first episode to the beginning... I watched the number of episodes known as “Pokemon Shock” in normal real time, but it didn't affect my health in any way.
I think “Call Me JoOusama” is like an image of a woman with a whip. I'm sure there are similar lines and such in other anime, but I don't have a specific source of anime or manga. Incidentally, I believe that Sailor Moon did not or should not have actively used lines like “Call me JoOusama” when a female character with a whip appeared in the show, because the audience is younger.
There are a lot of things I haven't read. I read something every day. Unfortunately, my reading speed is not very fast.
Here are some of the novels I've been reading recently.
I don't think I've read the Dragon Slayer Academy series. I read horror books sometimes because I want to read something homegrown, and I read novels.
I don't think I've ever seen “Riding the Bullet” and “Evil Car Christine,” either the book or the movie...
I guess it's not that I read that much Stephen King. If I see it in the library, I just borrow it and read it.
Before I read “Detective Conan,” I had already read some Holmes and Agatha Christie mystery novels for children and some domestic series, so it didn't trigger my interest in having mystery novels. I also read mystery manga in manga magazines or shoujo manga, which were serialized mystery manga, so it wasn't even the first mystery manga I read.
I think some of the CD dramas for “Slayers” were based on the stories from the novel's extra-terrestrial specials. However, the story proceeds with the characters from the TV series, so Naga does not appear in the story. Personally, I think that alone makes the story feel much different.
By the way, the only drama CD in which Naga appears is Slayers vs.
Well, I started watching from NEXT, so I don't have any feelings for Muji, which is commonly referred to as the first series. But then again, the fisherman's story is 7 episodes, so it's not a gag month story. Well, it was this 7th episode that I happened to see on TV broadcast in real time that led me to know the work “Slayers”.
I believe I went to see the movie Slayers Great. As I recall, it was shown at the same time as Tenchi Muyo, and Tenchi Muyo had a stronger impact, so Slayers left less of an impression on me. I didn't care much about the Nausicaa parody... Lupin the Third was too much of a parody of Nausicaa. Maybe when I watch it back, I'll know which parts are parodies.
The “Call me JoOusama” line has become established over here as the kind of thing you might expect a laughing, flailing female character with a whip to say, well, it's not something I'm going to go around saying. Along with the whip, they have masks, black-colored bondage outfits, candles, and so on. So this is more of an image than a parody.
I mean, I think Gokudo-kun was also difficult to get hold of in the first place, since I think the light novel was out of print over here, but maybe that's just my imagination...
I don't have any particular series I'd like to prioritize getting. I mean, I have over 100 light novels piling up at home that I haven't read, and I need to read about 50 of them to reduce the quantity, or else I won't have room for the next one. I find myself unintentionally picking up about 20 or so light novels that the library got rid of every few months, so I'm trying to reduce it, but it's growing...
I read foreign novels sometimes, like fantasy children's books. Darren Shan, for example... and then I guess mystery novels. Holmes, Agatha Christie, Stephen King, and so on.
The Slayers CD drama has a booklet on CD with the script. So I think the most accurate way to translate them is to look at them. If there is a full cast of voice actors at an event, they may perform the story on the spot, using only their voices, without any animation footage.
As for funny scenes, I liked the times that were mainly comedy, called “gag month,” although I think there are a lot of people who like it or not. In Next, it could be a story about cooking in a tower, or tennis, or cross-dressing. For Tri, I think it's the story about the fisherman...it's a parody of Evangelion, and I laugh no matter how many times I watch it. The Tri fan book also had a layout that used Evangelion, which I laughed at the time when I saw it. I've already sold it, though.
https://myanimelist.net/manga/71839/Higaeri_Quest
The manga version contains the original manga story and I liked that story as well.
Well, in my case, I guess I don't think it's similar because I've read books written by the same author other than Gokudo-kun to a certain extent, and I've read other light novels to a certain extent, like the author's real life and other background. Orphen is usually a fantasy, too, and it has comedic elements. And Orphen isn't a regular hero either, it's an anti-hero.
As for the fine reasons why I thought Orphen was more similar than Mr. Gokudo,
The fact that the story was serialized in the same light novel magazine, and the serialized story was not the main story of both Orphen and Slayers, but the story of Gaiden.
The main character had attended a magic school-like institution in the past. The fact that there is a female character who is an older sister or a sister-like position that the protagonist cannot resist.
The characters in the book must be different from those in the outside story. The main character like Naga exists in the main story of Orphen's external story. Also, the main character who is obsessed with money applies to both Gokudo-kun and Orphen, but we sometimes see such a main character, and it is not an uncommon setting.
In addition, it may not be obvious in the translated novels, but in Japanese, it is cool that spells are written with kanji characters in their chanting or special moves. Gokudo-kun is not a cool spell with kanji interlaced.
The fact that the authors of Orphen and Slayers could write stories about each other's works and still have the same quirks in their writing, but the content would be completely consistent.
In Japan, there are a lot of people who read Slayers novels who also read Orphen. It's because they are published under the same label. So I feel unusual that you know Gokudo-kun but don't know Orphen.
Well, I don't think you need to force yourself to read other works, because I think there are quite a few books just for the main story and the Gaiden of Slayers. I, too, haven't read all of them, not all of them, I think.
I remember that the drama CD of Slayers, in which he only does voice acting, was very interesting. Maybe they didn't translate it, but I enjoyed “The God of Destruction is Hard” and “Lina Elimination Order”...
