Love is War, a manga that has garnered significant attention within the romantic comedy genre, presents a compelling premise that explores the complexities of young love. While it may not necessarily break new ground or achieve greatness, it undeniably rises above mediocrity. With its sharp wit, engaging characters, and moments of genuine warmth, Love is War manages to entertain and captivate readers, albeit without reaching the pinnacle of excellence.
One of the manga's standout qualities lies in its clever writing and humor. The series thrives on the battle of wits between the brilliant student council members, Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane. The strategic mind games, elaborate
...
schemes, and comedic misunderstandings provide ample opportunities for laughter and amusement. The dialogue is sharp and witty, filled with clever wordplay and double entendres that keep readers engaged and entertained. The humor is often self-aware, parodying the tropes and clichés of the genre, adding an extra layer of enjoyment for those familiar with romantic comedies.
Moreover, Love is War manages to strike a balance between comedy and heartfelt moments. Beneath the surface-level rivalry lies a genuine emotional core, as both Kaguya and Miyuki grapple with their feelings for each other. The manga occasionally delves into the characters' vulnerabilities, exploring their fears, insecurities, and longing for genuine connection. These moments of emotional resonance humanize the characters and add depth to their struggles, making them relatable and endearing to readers.
Another strength of Love is War lies in its well-crafted characters. Kaguya and Miyuki, the main protagonists, are not simply one-dimensional caricatures but multifaceted individuals with their own strengths and weaknesses. Kaguya's prideful yet fragile facade and Miyuki's intelligent yet socially awkward nature create a compelling dynamic that keeps readers invested in their interactions. The supporting cast, including the energetic and unpredictable Chika Fujiwara and the introverted yet perceptive Yu Ishigami( Bro NEEDS his own spin-off ASAP), add further depth and variety to the manga's ensemble. While some characters may receive less development than others, they each contribute to the overall narrative, enhancing the manga's charm. The ending chapters were necessary to tie up loose ends to close each side character's arc, which was ongoing along with the main storyline. While necessary with the direction the manga went. I felt personally if planned out differently, this wouldn't be necessary as each arc would end more "naturally" as the main storyline closed.
The art style in Love is War is visually pleasing and complements the comedic tone of the story. The characters are depicted with expressive facial expressions and body language, effectively conveying the emotions and intentions behind their actions. The use of visual gags and exaggerated reactions adds to the manga's comedic impact, enhancing the overall reading experience.
However, Love is War does have its limitations, that should be pointed out more specifically: The series occasionally falls into repetitive patterns, where the central premise of the confession game is recycled without significant progression. This repetition can lead to a sense of stagnation, hindering the overall narrative momentum. Additionally, while the manga touches on deeper emotions, it sometimes struggles to fully explore and develop them, opting for lighter comedic moments instead. This choice can prevent Love is War from reaching its true potential in terms of emotional depth. This does improve as the manga progresses, especially toward the end.
In conclusion, Love is War is an above-average manga that successfully combines sharp humor, engaging characters, and moments of genuine warmth. While it may not break new ground within the genre, it offers an entertaining and enjoyable experience for readers. With its clever writing, relatable characters, and visually appealing art, I give it a solid 7/10 rating. If you're a fan of romantic comedies, you will likely find this manga to be a delightful addition to your reading list.

Ah.. the second SEASON
-----------SPOILERS AHEAD-----------
This won't be an in-depth review but more of a reaction of sorts.
I would first like to say that this anime REALLY gave off strong promise neverland and Btooom! vibes. For those who haven't seen one or the other, I suggest you watch them. (Promised neverland season 2 coming out this year in October btw)
Anyways, to start, this was far better than the 1st season as it mainly focused on the rise of each season and how they formed groups along with first-hand problems in this dystopian like environment. They often switched back and forth between teams and characters as
...
a feeble attempt for character development. I eventually found it quite confusing towards the end of the 1st season.
Now the second season is a lot better because it was able to permeate each character hence manifesting a more intriguing story. The characters -- especially the main ones had more screen time and they fleshed out very nicely. Compared to the 1st where they were very static, this season they arguably were round.
The ultimatum of the second season would be to have hope for the main characters ESPECIALLY FOR HANA AND ARASHI TO FRIKEN SEE EACH OTHER. And for their longevity and prosperous life.
It is within the last episodes did I find that was the best. They were able to really show how Ango changes as a person and realize that he wasn't as bad as he portrayed himself. And was a bit refreshing to see Ryo not be a shady pain in the ass for once.
Arashi still has the same mindset but is a better person. Semmy, being forced to interact more is less of a nuisance but will get cocky at times. I feel that Natsu was such a nervous nelly and an eyesore in the 1st season, but to see her change; I eventually grew to appreciate her trying to be a better person. Botan became more of an older sibling which created more of a family perception of summer b.
I could go on and on about how the other characters changed but I'd suggest you watch this season. Don't expect something grand and mighty rather expect something you'd expect from a second season-- with more appreciation.
And to be very honest, if this is Netflix's own "ending" to the show I would be very surprised as the manga is 177 chapters(it's completed). So I'd expect at least another season or two. However, if this is indeed the finale then It would very sad to see this series go without a conclusive ending-- at least to me.
(If anybody wishes to read the where the anime left off start from ch.112 --- It has a good ending don't worry)
As they say "finish strong", and that's exactly what they did.

"Tenkuu Danzai Skelter+Heaven"
*SPOILERS*
A show about a guy who runs an all-female unit and is tasked with destroying a giant squid of sorts.
After watching this anime series from the beginning to the end. I was shocked, in disbelief, dumbfounded. How could an anime this amazing receive a MAL score of 1.89?
THE STORY:
...
A simple yet succinct story. A story about struggle, about power, about feelings, about internal conflicts. IT IS ABOUT LIFE I TELL YOU. In those 19 minutes, you get to know each and every one of those characters. You are immediately faced with conflict along with an internal one that can only spell impending doom upon our characters. You are drawn into the story about these girls who fight it out against all odds. It shows how we need to brush off unpleasant feelings and finish the job and to realize that it will only drive you further down. AND THAT my fellow anime viewers is a life lesson in disguise. The flashbacks to before the fight strengthens our understanding of the internal conflict. When the characters make certain decisions--we aren't lost, which eliminates any preoccupying feelings that we may have.
And because of how engaging it kept us, it had us feel for the characters. We felt their pain, suffering, anger, envy, and jealousy. They had us entranced in this rollercoaster ride to the very end. And in the end, we see that the ugly bastard "delete" our amazing Commander Funagai's profile-- why? It is a foreshadowing of course. For, when they fast forward to a year later we are met with many more enemies. And just when you think those beautiful fan-service girls will come flying in with only a helmet for protection-- you're wrong. The show ends. why on a cliffhanger? WHY THE BEAUTY OF BETRAYAL OF COURSE. They had us so indulged in the show that they purposely ended it before the climax of the show. Such an act is so horrendous yet so satisfying. What really surprises me is that most hentai have a horrible plot line and yet people have the audacity to rate this lower? Any man of culture would know that girls and robots always make a show 10/10
THE SOUND:
The OP and ED were beautifully performed by none other than Minori Chihara. The music was beautifully played. I particularly enjoyed it because it gave a 2005 kind of feel to it.
THE CHARACTERS:
Rin has a complicated relationship with her commander Funagai. As you are able to see it within the first 5 minutes. This causes Funagai to make an irrational decision to make Rin the one who will break the monster's core when Misaki is far more experienced. We then see Rin reflect on her commander's decision realizing that she cannot mess up. However, that's just what happens when Funagai is thrown by the squid-like creature, Rin saves him. An act of chivalry that almost costed her teammates' lives. Later we are shown flashbacks to her past that reveal her to be an AI. We now understand that these girls are programmed for this-- but they felt happy training with, which is why Funagai pushes them to kill the monster.
THE ENJOYMENT:
I don't know if I stressed this enough but this anime was amazing. With animations that are better than most 2020 films, it is no wonder so many people rated it low-- out of spite. The captivating visuals, the drama that left me gasping for air, the short moments of happiness followed by the sad demise that everyone saw coming, had left me sobbing.
By far better than Your name and FMA combined. Really, a short story with an array of stories and emotions to be shown. The areas of conflict were a means of catharsis which really emboldened each character.
THE OVERALL:
It is when u reach the peak of humanity and transcend into a higher being-- this anime is the gateway to that immortality. After watching this show and using up a whole tube of lotion, I've never felt so refreshed to know that there are still amazing anime series out there. This show won't take up much of your time nor should it ever. It will come to you and leave that fast, and I warn you...don't get heartbroken. Mars of destructions prepared us for the show we never thought we would get. And that's Tenkuu Danzai Skelter+Heaven. God Bless

Considering this being a * SPOILER* less than 40-second long video, I found it ended up putting a smile on my face.
For what reason? I don't even know. This short video is funny because of how stupid it is. There's literally nothing else you can discuss about it. The way the slug talks, the way it moves around, pure foolishness. This is something you can show your baby siblings/cousins if they're bored--guaranteed to make them laugh.
The music in the video lasted like 7 seconds but was decently played.
The animations look worse than xxxholic but I guess no one will ever know
...
right?
Will someone ever see this review? I don't know but give this video a shot.
It WON'T take up your time.
