Slade’s Quick Review
I see many people giving this anime a 10 and to be honest I wouldn’t disagree with them. This anime is my favorite of the Shonen genre, because it deviates so far from the basic, fight this new bad guy and get stronger to do so, stereotype. Hunter X Hunter gives a mixed feeling of wholesome, adventure, dread, and intense action. I won’t say all the characters in this show are great or even good, but when they are good, my god, they are some of my favorite characters in anime. Its also rare to see an anime this long with so few ... fillers, every episode feels like you have to watch it. There are reasons I didn’t give this anime a perfect 10 and that is because, while this is the best Shonen its still a Shonen and that means using some tropes and following some patterns for things. I feel an anime with a 10 rating should be completely unique as well as good, and that’s why I so rarely give a 10 for a rating.

I suppose you shouldn’t expect much from a show with high school in the title, and this show is no exception. The main plot of this show is let’s fight zombies and try to look as sexy as possible doing such. The cast is so forgettable that all the interactions with the female cast could have just been swapped with one another and still have been the same. The only “interesting” character would be the nerdy guy, you know, the one who all the girls don’t lust after. The only thing the anime ha going for it would be that the animation is ... nice and while I personally don’t care for harem anime, I can’t exactly say whether it is good or bad for a harem anime fan. I do feel that this is so close to being a hentai instead of echi R+ that I’m not sure why they didn’t go that route, cause I feel some porn characters are more interesting hen the ones in this show.

Do you like anime girls? Do you like hooters, bingbangaboingos, or tiglebitys? Well gosh darny darn it, have I got the show for you! Its all about a guy and his relationship(s) with a hot demon girl with massive bonghoygobongos, who he has to protect and serve. The first episode does its best to set itself far away from the rest of the pace from the anime. The first episode felt closer to the sexual/violence vibe I get from Gantz then straight up fan service. I would say that this is one of the best harem anime if not the best harem ... anime...if only harem anime was good.

Behold in revelation for it is one of the few anime I deem as a 10! This is truly a masterpiece because It has great music that is a combination of jazz and Noir sounding action pieces. Amazing characters and even character development from almost every character. It has animation style that is unique and beautiful enough to compete with the likes of fate/zero. It has a story that has twists, but also is compelling and feels finished when its over. Most of the time I sh*t on a lot of anime in my reviews even if I like them so you can ... see how good this anime really is. Once you finish the anime TFS also has a pretty good abridged as well...

I will defend this anime through the hordes of people bashing it, why? This anime starts off with a shock factory that keeps people watching and then never does it again... to be honest disappointing, but i kept watching and I found an actual interesting plot with good characters. The main character, sir goblin slayingham is boring but cool, that is fine if the supporting characters compliment this archetype, and they do! I truly wish the story continues to develop those characters cause that's where the show should go. I do hope it continues because it was criminally short and needs more of ... itself to truly develop the personality I see within it. So did it trick the audience with the first episode...yes, but It keeps you watching because there is something more within it.

So I guess I watched this thing thinking it was a harem, cause yes I watched those, cause I was young and horny. However this is a cutesy slice of life nothing happens anime. At least this thing looks pretty, but I have to say for a slice of life if you don't have an interesting plot, I want to see interesting characters. The characters were all "cute" static boring things. Though to be fair you cant do much with a short series except i feel like you can but I'm sure someone will make that excuse for it. The show gives you ... a few characters with traits and shows you what would happen if the characters did this or that, nothing truly exceptional...

So this show is f$cking weird... The animations style looks closer to american and I am unsure why that they did it like that. I suppose the animation had to match the tone of the show, which was balls to the wall WTF is going on? Gore and nudity don't much effect me anymore so I easily looked past the excessive amounts of it. However I feel with the tone of the writing it wouldn't make sense to sensor it. The show had a strong beginning feeling much like a bad-ass protag versus legions of darkness, but it turned into hey lets ... focus on all these other nobodies and the main character can have an episode for every 3 stupid episodes. Then it threw an ending at you like there was some sort of build up to it...but not really. I suppose my overall opinion of the show is... I think i liked it?

Gantz scarred me as a kid. I binged it after school for 2 days and it threw me into a weird haze for weeks later. This is definitely not for the feint of heart, its got some gore to it, but its more of the physiological part of the characters deaths that make you uncomfortable. It shows nudity but not in the typical fan service way, more of a disturbing connection between violence and sexuality. Its garbage animation adds to it and makes its dark vibe more coherent in that its "not right". No character is safe in this show and I truly ... love that, but its not like they randomly kill people you straight up know they are dying before it happens it draws out deaths which other anime are scared to do.

Gangsta does the thing were you make a weak character feel bad-ass, and that is where much of the enjoyment factor comes from this show. Nicolas much like Hei (Darker than Black) and Hisoka (Hunter x Hunter) are characters that are actually not as strong as many others in the show but they create this ere about them. This is due to very good writing in the show, which shows in other areas like characters inner selves and relationships with each other. The draw back is the lack of relevant story telling, the characters just kinda do their thing and the story kinda ... happens slowly around them. My final complaint is that the two main characters relationship switches between I hate you and your my brother and it makes things a bit confusing after the third switch in emotions. Also the show teaches you what a jigalow is and no its not the fools with the clown makeup.

If you liked full metal alchemist, may I introduce full metal alchemist: brotherhood. Both shows have almost all the same characters, concepts and settings. However the two couldn't feel more different. Brotherhood from what I have heard follows the manga closer then its brother show. This is good and bad, full metal (the short one) felt slower but had some very interesting things that made it great such as its omnipotence of The Gate, where as in brotherhood they gave it a face which I'm not sure if i liked. Brotherhood definitely has more action and better choreographed fights. The real issue is ... that while most of the show differentiates itself from its counterpart they rush through the beginning as if they had expected you to watch the other one first but still makes you sit through a bunch a sh%t you already know. "Yeah, I'm my own thing!... but you have to watch the other one if you want a good beginning..."
