I really have to say that after season 1 and the movie I was SO HYPED about season 2..
Season 1 got better and better with each episodes, the animations were pretty decent, compelling characters and interesting story, however...

Season 2 just got worse.. and that's understating it..

The animations are TOP TIER TRASH in season 2... it's really sloppy drawings/animations with the only 2 decent fights being the one in the bathroom stall and a Gojo fight..
Everything else is pure trash animations, reminding me of Boruto (where the legs are just triangles) or Black Clover where the most badass move of the protagonist is just ... a freaking black line in the air...

There are some really cool moments still in this season with the main characters, as well as the story being really cool still, however the animations just ruins it for me... it's sooo below season 1 which wasn't the greatest ever made in terms of animations, but this season is nowhere near season 1 (except for those two fights prementioned). Having the animation quality of Black Clover and Boruto despite probably being the number 1 anime studio in Japan is just sad...

Heck, I know they can do insanely great animations like in Vinland Saga 2, Attack on Titan etc..
So why not in this ultra popular anime?!

It feels like they cut costs on the production time/quality except for on the key moments of the protagonist and Gojo....

This is why I have very mixed feelings about this season..

Still, I will complete it and if you liked season 2 you should still watch this season, since the story is the only thing still keeping the score decently high for me..

Well to be honest this show isn't for anyone... You have to adjust from watching regular Japanese anime to a fully 3D animated chinese production. It kind of feels like you are watching a video game animated story to be honest..

But man, the story is quite compelling if you ask me...
The story is about this young reincarnated boy who was a previous genious of his clans secret techniques, and now is getting to relive a second life in another world with different yet similar powers to his previous world which is pretty interesting.
The characters are fun, somewhat cool and not all over ... the top in terms of fanservice or annoying catch phrases. The MC feels pretty well balanced so far and have some kind of calm and coolness over him, yet also emotional at times which is a process for him to learn, since he was all about the clan and mastering powers in the previous life.
There are some interesting aspects of the world like soul rings, soul beasts, some very OP grandmasters and legendary beasts.. A pretty cool setting in my opinion.

The animations are sometimes out of sync when they speak and sometimes it feels like they dropped some fps because of production costs.. This can make the animations feel clunky at times, but since I'm not a chinese speaker/listener I have to read the subtitles and therefor rarely notices the lipsync issues..
However, each and every fight feels like it's made with higher fps and are very well animated..
It's sometimes uses very fast cutting teqniques which can be somewhat disturbing to the eyes/mind, but overall the fights are generally well made, easy to understand what is happening etc.

I am currently watching the 2nd season which I've kind of benched so far, because I like how the story is developing in both the 1st and 2nd season.
There are still unknown things about the world they are in as well as interesting characters yet to meet the MC.

I would definetly recommend you to give this anime a shot and see if it's something you like!
So far I haven't been disappointed.

How this season got a better score than season 1 I just don't know.... Must be score bombing or whatever....

The good thiings about this season:
The art was amazing... really beautiful animations and sceneries for that matter.. it was good at capturing certain feelings of the characters and/or envieroment..
However... this is where it ends...

The bad things about the show:
Following a season 1 which captured the Viking culture meeting christianity as well as season 1 being ACTION packed, filled with cool moments, interesting characters, alot of development through the story as well as characters, this season 2 just doesn't deliver AT ALL...
I found myself wondering if ... this was even Vinland Saga I was watching..
The pacing was TERRIBLE compared to season 1 ... slooooow story telling and in every single episode you had 3-5 minutes of seing the scenery, weather, peoples eyes, the wind on the grass, birds in the sky... LItterally all this season did was introduce us to a scenery that was reconfirmed at every single episode.. Heck, I know more about the weather occurances throughot the season than I know the characters....
The thing I loved about Vinland Saga season 1 was the pacing and action as well as those "oh damn" moments... In this season we had zero of those moments...
It's like going from Die Hard to 50 First Dates... It's a complete overhaul of the series...

I have to say that i get why they spend so much time on certain scenery and reaction shots on characters as well as the slow pacing.. It was just not anything I expected would be so dominant in season 2 after watching season 1... It wasn't this slow paced story telling filled with regrets and heavy feelings that I watched Vinland Saga for..

If you enjoyed season 1 as much as I did, I definetely wouldn't recommend this season at all.. But if you are into a beautiful artstyle with in-depth feelings getting translated visually, then for sure, go ahead and watch it! Cause it is very well made, like very very well made, especially seen from an artistic point of view.. It just wasn't the follow up on season 1 I wanted it to be...

I will try categorizing some of the areas with scores below here..

Visuals/artstyle/animations: 10
Stunning! Absolutely beautiful visiuals where you really feel the love of animations poured onto this show.. Anyone saying otherwise is mad..

Sound: 8
The intro/outo isn't to my likings compared to season 1.. However I do feel like the intro song is well fitted to the theme of the first half of the season atleast..
The sounds otherwise are good.. Not anything amazing, just standard high quality and what you would expect of Mappa..

Pacing: 2
Absolutely horrible pacing... If you took out all of the scenery shots, reaction shots, watching tears falling down, seeing birds in the sky, watching the wind on the grass, the trees etc.. Then you could maybe remove 5 full episodes of content...
I can only compare it to season 1 pacing since that had a really good pacing imo... This season is waaaaaay too slow paced and half the time you feel like nothing is happening..

Story: 3
Again.. the story is actually well written for what it is the story wants to tell the viewer which is why I raise the score to 3, however... the pacing kills it off completely.. It feels like no real progress is being made half the time.. It really tries to capture the mental states of the main characters and it does do that very well.. however the overall story and continuation of season 1 feels lackluster.. It feels rushed in the end and non-existing at the beginning.. Everything is about the mental states of someone...
Heck, you even get to enjoy a full 3 episodes of a side character to a side character and how he's feeling throughout his life, even though he himself is completely irrelevant to Thorfinn.. It was like focusing on the feelings on someone to show the feelings of another one that then moved the feeling os the friend of Thorfinn who is the MC..
Waaay too much screen time for a subside-side character...

Characters: 3
There are so many side characters in this show who are fairly irrelivant to the story as well as the MC.. Some of them are comlpletely irrelevant as well as pretty boring characters..
There are a few interesting characters at first though any real character development is non-exisiting on these, so they kind of fall off in the long run..
Generally there were mostly just boring characters with no real development... Only Thorfinn had some development, but again he is the MC..

Action: 1
There were A FEW good action scenes in the seson, however I think that if you took every fighting scene, all of the action of the series and combined it, it would probably be 1 full episodes worth of action, maybe 1,5...
This is definetly NOTHING like season 1 and don't watch this season to expect any kind of action...
There were no real "oh damn" moments at all except for maybe 1 or 2 times where it looked like it was about to get good, just to get anti climatized by the story itself...

These are just some of the points i have rated my score from.. I know these combined wouldn't even make it 5 in score, but the show still has some promise after all..
But it kind of depends on season 3.. This season could be a good lead-iup to an amazing season 3.. However if season 3 fails to deliver then this season would have been obsolete and would have been a waste of time watching...
If however season 3 becomes really good and the story and characters really develop after such a long journey of season 2, then this season would be amazing for shifting the pace and building up what's to come....

Now all we can do is wait for season 3 and pray...

To anyone bashing this anime from watching 3-5 episodes of it.... Give it some more time...

The story start out with being kind of a comedy story about a hero joining a demon army. But once you get into the story there is actually way more depth to both the characters and the story.

This is actually an anime i enjoy watching based on the story and setting alone...

If you've only watched 3 episodes then yes, the story seems bland and lackluster.. but around episode 5 or 6 you realize that there is a whole other backstory to this anime.

How people are giving this anime 9 and 10 in ratings i simply don't know.. They must not have seen any good anime in their life if so...

The story is very boring with a generic protagonist with no depth what so ever.

The animations are okay and i actually thought the anime would be a bit like goblin slayer (which is a great anime!), but it seems like the author don't really know whether to add more rape and blood or to do the opposite.
So the general fights are boring standard fights with very little blood in them and then sometimes he slays a guy who's ... about to rape someone and we get to see blood..
If the author could just decide to go gore or not... this half/half sucks..

I will try to keep this spoiler free and short! Since there are alot of reviews going in depth..

My overall feeling of this anime is very lackluster.. The story is somewhat decent, but the story telling is terrible.. Missing alot of character development, development of bonding between characters, fighting scenes are decent at best sometimes and worse than decent other times..

Wasn't sure if i wanted to give it 4 or 5 since the setting is interesting..

I haven't played the game, so my opinion isn't comparing the anime to the game at all.. But the anime from my point of view is pretty damn bad... ...
I got bored midway and especially when reaching the end.. took me several weeks to finish the last 6 episodes.. (I am usually able to watch atleast 10+ episodes of an anime a day....)

So yeah, bad anime.. wouldn't recommend it to anyone, one of the worst i've watched...
