An erotic, comic, and possibly a masterpiece manga.
Rosen Garten Saga got it all: Good comedy, a very promising story and concept, and ABSURD art.
It's been a long time since I've been so taken in by something, even though I never thought I would be. I didn't think this manga would be for me, but it exceeded all my expectations. So before I continue, I must warn everyone out there: This manga might not be for everyone; it touches on some pretty heavy topics (like rape and brutality), although it's always portrayed in a comedic way and it makes complete sense within the world of the
...
manga.
The art is absolutely gorgeous, one of the best in recent manga (if not the best), and it always looks good, whether it's in fights or any casual moment. I must say there's a lot of detail everywhere, maybe you'll look at the back of a panel and still find something interesting back there, it gives a nice touch. It also has a >lot< of nudity, but it looks natural as you read it, it's not something you look at and think is erotic (I guess?). I have to mention it again, the fight scenes are ABSOLUTELY amazing, I keep going back to read them.
The characters are a real strong point, it's quite funny how degenerate everyone is and how cool (almost) everyone is about it. Each personality is pretty well defined and unique, everyone has some pretty interesting thing about them, which can make you like a character not long after they are introduced. Also, all the characters are a reference to some mythological figures (you can guess from the names... Arthur, Beowulf, Alibaba, etc...) and some of the stuff that happens in the manga are actually related to the tales these characters are based on, which is pretty interesting.
As for the story: It is really captivating. The first chapter starts with a little shock but I still thought it was going to be a random, typical, adventure manga, but it soon took a wild turn to be something else entirely, and it only gets better as the chapters go on, the current potential is huge.
I've mentioned it before but I have to say it again, this manga is FUN, there's comedy all over the place. Maybe my comedy standards are pretty low, but I'm laughing all the time. And mixed in with all that is the erotic stuff, degeneracy everywhere. And this brings me back to what I mentioned at the beginning, this manga will joke about everything, no matter how gruesome or taboo it might be, the "weight is lightened" with a humorous tone; this might be annoying for you if you're sensitive about it, but again, it's all written in a comedic way.
Every time a chapter ends, I'm always looking forward to the next one as I try to discuss what's going to happen next with a friend and it's always a fun surprise; the authors do a good job with the surprise element be it in fights or in general plot. It's always worth it.
So, if you can handle the extreme stuff I mentioned before, you're in for a nice, funny, erotic, degenerate and wild ride. I'm sure you won't regret it and you won't forget it.

This review contains little to no spoilers.
Alright so, first of all, you should give this a chance!
Deatte 5-byou de Battle tells the story of a normal guy that's addicted to games. This boy, that have always wished where he could fully immerse in and that could make him forget his "boring everyday life", finds himself in one of those games. MAYBE not how he wanted it to be, but it is what he wanted.
Story
Summing the start up, lots of people were "killed" and kidnapped by a certain girl, and they were given some kind of special ability, with a vast range of variety for thsoe.
...
Our protagonist, Akira, got an ability called "Sophist", his ability is whatever the other person believes it to be; which actually makes sense, taking in mind that sophists were people known for using deceitful, but clever arguments. It all starts pretty simple, with some duels in groups and such. The first major interesting point is when we're learning about the powers, especially about Akira's ability: Who is the other person? What if the person doesn't believe in him? What if the person doesn't understand how a power work? Later on, we're going to have the third program which develops quite nicely, introducing a whole pack of characters, and also developing some new. After this one ends, things get kinda messy (around chapter 65~), another program begins and it quites lose some quality to it, but as a few chapter passes, things starts REALLY get interesting, maybe more than it has ever been (chapter 95~). Some people've been saying that after the 3rd program it justs goes crumbling down, please, give it a chance.
Art
This is one of the best parts of the manga. Even though Miyako is mostly known for doing heavy erotic art and such, it actually really fits this kind of story. It's very well-drawn, the characters, the abilities, the background, everything. The character designs are also pretty interesting, they are not exquisite or anything, but it feels good to see them.
Character - Main
At first, Akira is your typical Death Game protagonist, being cold and REALLY clever. There's not much for you to expect, he is actually a genius. The ability that was given to him it's what really make him interesting, he has always been antisocial, and this ability kinda NEEDS another person for it to work, that's the first little step of development for his character. As chapter passes, he makes friends (or allies in some cases) and all of those are responsible for influencing Akira in some sense, that's one of the things that makes this such a nice manga. Around the chapter 130~, Akira's biggest development 'til now starts, not much can be said about it or else I would be spoiling, but it's really satisfying to see that Akira is not just the same cold guy that could possibly make him look generic.
Characters
All of the characters are pretty interesting, every new arc we have a few (or a lot in some cases) characters being introduced, all of those always happen to appear and actually to have a consistent role withing the manga. Mainly speaking about the main cast (Akira's friends) they all are really well-defined, a simple look at Kirisaki for example and you can guess that he is the delinquent type; The characters remain consistent for the most part, which is actually that makes me like it, all of them seem to have a stablished role within Akira's circle, and they seem to fulfill it nicely. Something that I really appreciate on this manga, is that even though many characters are introduced throughout the manga, it doesn't feel like they're just being dumped on for no reason at all, but instead, all of them sure have a meaningful place on the manga. And hey, I must say, some of them have such a HUGE development that honestly it makes me surprised.
Final notes
I think Deatte 5-byou de Battle is a really promising title, although it may not look like it, it really should be given a chance, the way the abilities are used by some characters, especially Akira's are really good to see. If you don't like Akira, keep in mind that he IS being developed every arc, along with the rest of the cast. The current arc is being simply amazing, again, you really should consider giving it a try.

Story - 5
About the story, it's slowly developed, almost following a pattern: A traumerei case episode followed by a episode where they talk about the story. It's pretty simple, they want to "conquer" to world and the Knocker-Ups gotta stop them; The church uses hidden desires inside of people in order to bring "monsters" out of them. It gets rushed as the ending closes in, but it was still a nice turn of events. Gotta point that episode 6 was my personal favorite.
Gotta point that they touch some pretty touchy stuff when talking about the "desires", it's pretty interesting to be
...
honest.
Art - 9
I really like the characters designs, they're not exaggerated, neither too simple, I personally liked all of them. I don't have much to say, I simply like it. Their "Knocker-up clothes" are all pretty neat, aswell as for their weapons.
All of the effects mix pretty well with the environment, they're really well made, aswell as for the scenarios.
The monster designs are pretty simple, they reuse the models lots of times, but still they really looked cool, especially the last one and the one that got a really long neck (?). It's cool how they all look a bit technological, really liked this.
Art - Animation
I've never been much of a fan of CGI, but, this one really catched my eye. As said, The effects are looking good; The movements are pretty smooth, I was actually expecting something more "laggy". The fights are really well animated, although sometimes they're short, but it's worth it. And the last episode was ACTION PACKED, and I really mean it, I loved the animation on it from the start to the end.
Have to point out that I loved the expressions, especially on the episode 6 and the last one.
Sound - Voice Acting
The voice acting is REALLY REALLY good, you can see it by taking a look at the cast, you'll be welcomed by Yuuki Aoi and Yoshitsugu. There's also Itou Ayasa, I personally really like her, so this might be a little biased haha. IMO the voices fit pretty well with the characters. They all managed to portray their characters really well, even the minors ones, like Kazuha.
Sound - Music
Ok, now I gotta say, I LOVED the soundtrack. They're incredibly pleasing to hear, mixing pretty well with the ambient, and the mood of the environment.
Now for the OP and ED, GOD, I love them both. The opening is really really good, Tokyo Jihen did a NICE work. I gotta point a fact that really catched me: The opening is pretty chill whille the animation playing in the background is pretty lively, gives some nice vibes.
I'm amazed that they brought Rondo for the ending, I simply love this group, banger song.
Characters
Each character is pretty simple but well defined, Ryuhei being the "quite" aggressive protagonist who wants to help people, Rena almost being his sidekick, Ibusaki being the quiet and intelligent, Jessica the cute, yet scary. Anyways, the main characters each get one ep for a little development, or at least some background info about them, that's pretty cool. Ryuhei can be a pain in the ass sometimes (especially when it comes to talking about his city) but overall, they're still good.
To conclude this review: The anime was actually pretty enjoyable, at least I enjoyed it a lot. The story is not the best but not the worst, I gotta say it's pretty common, but still surprised me when getting closed to the end. Pretty good for a promotional anime, I highly recommend giving it a try!
