Greetings! I'm Zee, or Zedmore, or Zori, or Zed, or... or... call me what you may...
Hey there! Chronically online, anime-watcher full time - I'm Sir_Zedmore! I've joined the MAL site to record the anime I've watched since I was 9, but it's been fun meeting all of you as I keep track of my hobby. Ever since I watched my first anime (that's not my childhood Pokemon, which I'd had been watching from as far back as I can recall), I started to explore the world a bit more. My first serious anime, meaning not whatever kids show was available, was (as far as I remember) the original 2003 adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist - a show that has stayed my favourite anime since then. I have begun to read more manga after finding ways to read apart from physical copies - I collect Fullmetal Alchemist, Boku No Hero, and I have a few other volumes of anime I enjoyed, whereas online I started Bleach (and soon forgot about it), finished Dragonball upon Toriyama's death, picked up the manga of the only anime I ever dropped (and plan to finish soon), started reading a weekly SJ manga on it's debut and, in order to solve a problem I encountered in the One Piece experience, well... One Piece. My other hobbies would be video games, playing piano, writing stories and drawing. I aspire to become an author and the philosophies of anime characters with big dreams such as Deku and Luffy have helped me get closer to that goal. I hope you've got to know me and that we can be friends (although I won't accept friend requests without comments explaining why!).
How do I decide what anime to watch?
There are four categories to deciding what I want to watch, ranked in order of significance, using my 'S4' system
1. Sequel/Spin-off
If a new season has come out to almost anything I have watched, I'll watch it - unless I really didn't like any of the seasons.
2. Seasonal
I like to pick from seasonal anime, often ones I've added to my FAL team so I can support them properly.
3. Suggestions
If a friend of mine is enjoying an anime, I'll likely watch it too.
4. Score
(RIP FMAB, I hope you return to your former glories)
I want to become more advanced into the world of anime. 2024 is only my third year of watching anime properly (I watched Pokemon when I was younger, but so did many, and I didn't watch any other anime for a long period of time) so I want to become a proper member of the community with 1000s of shows under my belt. To do this, I want to watch all of the top anime, which I do using the MAL score.
So, what's my #1 favourite anime?
I've watched a lot of great anime including Hunter x Hunter, One Piece (though OP could possibly contend for this spot) and more, but my favourite anime is probably close to what you expect (based on my profile)... but not what you think.
My favourite anime is actually...
Fullmetal Alchemist!
No, I didn't not say the full title. My favourite anime is Fullmetal Alchemist, the 2003 adaptation. The story's philosophy and themes have always been stronger for me in this version. I do believe I am blinded by nostalgia, as I have not watched it for a few years and I not only was I younger - it was my first age rating 12+ anime so realistically I might have latched on to the experience. I might rewatch it someday, and judge again. But until then, it's got a 10 on my list, perhaps through rose-tinted glasses.

Glad you enjoyed Hunter X Hunter. Still love that show to death, and I never would've watched it if I hadn't had it recommended by someone whose opinion I trusted. As for One Piece, I'd never find the time to watch it, but I've been obsessed with the manga since I was in high school. I read it back when Fishman Island was the currently-publishing arc, and it really was the first Japanese thingie that I fell in love with. I don't like reading manga weekly, so I let it stack up over time and then read it in larger chunks, but I'm caught up to the end of Egghead. Now I'm just waiting for the series to finish so I can binge the rest in one go. Really a fantastic story, it and Hunter X Hunter are the two that actually get me to care about power levels and scaling and stuff, and the One Piece cast just has the best dynamic. Plus it's impressively funny.
I've finished a few recently: Chainsaw Man (I'd read the manga before, but it was nice to see a solid adaptation,) Dan Da Dan (messy, but really fun,) Thousand-Year Blood War (peak Bleach is still not that good, unfortunately.) Making my way through Place Further Than the Universe, Dungeon Meshi, Frieren, Jojo Part 4 Manga, and the Copernicus show, all varying degrees of good (except Frieren, which has an incredible premise and seems to insist on taking it in the least interesting directions possible.) It's nice to have a bunch of good weeb media again.
I also tried reading Solo Leveling before, and I also just do not get it. Just unbelievably dull. If One Punch Man wasn't a comedy.
Tragically, I wasn't impressed by the dub at all. For comedies I often prefer the dub because it helps with the comedic timing, but this one wasn't it. The original Japanese voice acting is very good though.
Watched anything lately you've enjoyed? I went to Katsucon last month and have been struck with the urge to have a bit of a Renaissance.
