Preliminary (5/12 eps)

TL;DR Monty Oum's Legacy deserves better.

Story: If you are here for story go watch the OG on youtube. There is more detail as the new anime is rushing the first 2 volumes in 2-3eps. It is the same plot other wise.

Audio: The sound effects are dull and just stock SFX from a cheap library. Along with the timing being off or the wrong effect being used. It is likely to be "fix" when the DVD comes out.

They also changed how most of the guns sound and shoot making Blake's MAC 10 full auto into a generic semi-auto 9mil, Yang's pump-action shotgun gauntlets into ... a cannon, Ruby's 50 caliber sniper rifle into a laser gun, and Nora's grenade launcher now sounds like a magical girl attack... This is a change for the worse and I don't see anyone fixing this.

Them not using the original OST is probably the dumbest thing they could have done. Not using "Red like Roses" is silly but to go in a completely different direction and make something akin to the Persona 5 intro with "Beyond Selves" is a complete failure by the audio director. Not only does it show that you don't understand to your target demographic, it shows a complete misunderstanding of the source material. From Power Metal to Jazz/pop. Disappointing.

The rest of the OST is just as disappointing as the intro. To put it bluntly I haven't heard one Kick Drum go in during a fight scene so I don't care. Do you know the first few seasons of RWBY they used the OST to accent each fight letting slow parts of the fight hold a note and the action parts of the fight increase tempo and intensity to match. Well the new anime decided that generic rock music just play would be the best way to go.

Animation: Congratulation shaft you managed to adapt one thing from the original. Having really poor animation quality that only gets better during the fight scenes! Sadly you didn't match the quality of one guy from 2012. When Shaft was announced as the animation studio behind this project, people thought we were going to get a show that looked like Bakemonogatari. Instead we got a show that looks like Pani Poni Dash! Okay that is a bit of a stretch but my point being made is that they did not meet expectations with animation quality.

For a show that is rushing through its adaptation material quickly the shots in the show all move really slowly. There's a scene that takes place at the end of the second episode of the new show and in the 8th episode of the original show. It's the scene where Ruby jumps onto Blake's elastic thing to launch herself at a flying grim. In the original show it takes about 15 seconds from the moment she touches the band to launching herself. In the new show it takes almost 30 seconds. I don't know how they made an abridge sequence take longer than the original. Oh wait I do it's because they're not animating everything instead they're just cutting to random close-ups and “implied shots” where you get to see a still or only a few frames of Animation instead of getting the see the cool thing happen. I would have really liked to see the cool thing happen. The choreographed fight scenes in the OG RWBY were its bread and butter. In the new show you can barely keep track of where characters are let alone having the semblance of pacing and choreography implemented into a fight scene.

Overview: This show feels like the creative directors were told to make it look like an American cartoon from the mid 2000s. I could see the new show appearing alongside Ben 10 and the kids next door. The new show feels like a cash grab but I don't know who is making the money I just know I feel ripped off.

Sadly it gets axed as soon as the plot starts. Apparently the LN is still going if you care to read that.

Now for the short and sweet review for a short and sweet manga.

Its a fluffy comedy/reincarnation/isekai/villainess manga that follows a overpowered young girl(6). That is all you need to know if you want to read it or not. There are dozens of manga in the specific combination of genres that do essentially the same thing and just like them it lives and dies on whether or not you enjoy the characters.
