Ok first off, the over all consensus in the reviews before this are the heroine sucks. And ya know what, she does, but she's not AS bad as some people made her out to be.
Second, this review is a rating of the anime as a whole for it's genre not necessarily for an anime in and of itself seeing as shounen and shoujo are not the same, I don't know why the rating wouldn't be based on the genre or what the anime is setting itself up as.
And lastly, I've watched the entire thing. Many people who wrote bad reviews didn't watch the full series,
...
so honestly, I'd pay attention to those who've seen it all the way through, because believe it or not, it's more then just hot bishies and a wooden heroine.
Story: 8
The story is mediocre at first, but when you think about it, the idea kinda works. At least for the purposes of an Otome game (in which this series is based off of) it makes more sense then the whole "All these guys love me and I don't know who to chose. Oh darn" and fixes that dilemma in a simple yet kinda brilliant way, again for an Otome game. However this also becomes a little bit of a downfall because of how that plot that allows the simplistic brilliance (again, for an Otome game) drives the MC down to possibly the most boring heroine I've ever encountered. All that aside, I wrote part of this review only watching up to episode 7, but after that ... well the story gets quite a bit better, hence the higher rating. Also,------ Mild Spoiler----
It kind escalates quickly and takes a rather large turn from what you'd expect in an Otome game and/or shoujo anime.
Art: Solid 9
Awesome actually. I know it's a bunch of bishies and a wish fulfillment heroine, but really the art is fantastic for the purpose it fulfills. THE EYES is really all I can say. I love their design, unique, yet still akin to the whole anime style. Each one is totally unique too, both in colors and in design (such as the outline/eyelash styles) I really enjoyed seeing new characters just to see what their eyes looked like. This is not to say it's the best art ever in the history of anime, because it's not, but for the purpose it's designed as, it does the best job of any anime in its class.
Sound: 8
Everyone seems to love the OP but I for some reason liked the ED more. For me, sound is not much of a maker or deal breaker beyond what I hear in the intense or happy or sad (if their are any) scenes in anime. With that, the sound during the show didn't really catch my attention, but it also didn't feel out of place. I mostly didn't notice it. But for what it is, the OP and ED are really pretty awesome in themselves.
Character: 6 and half way through, it goes more to a 7.
This is where the anime falls drastically short. Whether for time constraints or just Otome games in general, the character, specifically of the heroine is totally lacking. To get it out of the way, let's review the Heroine who couldn't be more aptly named. So she's lost her memories and personality decided to jump ship along with it. Given the story line though of HOW she lost her memories, I suppose this could explain why more then her memories went with her. However, when that part of the plot is revealed (pretty early on in the show too) they never say that's also why her personality is that of a wet match trying to light a damp piece of wood. It just doesn't work, nor make sense. That being said however there WERE times she said no, stood up for herself or questioned things. Sure, it's not much, but she wasn't totally submissive when the guys were all up on her, she definitely tried to run or push them away or said no. She's too quiet though and given how everyone says she was before, it's just more proof that her personality for some reason went out the window. Also, just a few small but prominent tripes, what is up with her outift and her hair? She never changes it and honestly it doesn't fit either the lack of personality nor what seemed to be her previous personality. I know some think it's cute, I just think it felt out of place. Especially her hair. Just wear it normally please, why one braid and one rosebud and bangs with shoulder length? That would look stupid in real life and it looks stupid here.
----Mild spoiler alert----
The guys start out having cliche personalities, the mathwiz who views everything as a calculation (we totally never see that in anime) the playful fun but caring guy (I've just never seen that before) the lone wolf and the popular guy. However, this isn't totally what it seems (except the lone wolf, he had about the least character of any of the guys) The popular one actually has some story as to why he's popular and how he also feels about being popular. The math guy is not as cold hearted and as calculating as all characters with the genius trait tend to be, in fact he was probably me favorite and even made me go "Dawww" at times. And his route (how that works is a spoiler, so you can just sit there and be confused as to how that works in the anime) is only one ep long. WTF? Both the popular and the lone wolf guy and the playful guy get 2-3 eps for their routes, why the hell does in my opinion the best guy get the shortest time? That really rustled my jimmies. Meh. The playful guy (who's blonde, because all playful fun people are blonde, right? And no, this isn't a spoiler, because just looking at him and you already know his stereotype) however he's quite a bit more then that if not a little too much more, but since it's anime, you can see why he does what he does as it wouldn't apply in the real world at all to act that way.
I also liked that the manager changed personalities based on the route. His serious face all customers suck one made me LOL.
Orion was ok, he fit pretty well for what his character was accomplishing
Ukyo makes the plot interesting, I'll leave it at that.
Also ALL the guys have really awesome and intricate outfits that are attractive for the character and pure eye candy. My personal favorites were Kento's and Ukyo's. The girls looked smashing as well. I really liked both Hime's and Sawa's design, outfits and personalities.
Enjoyment: 7
I actually wanted to find out what was going on in the series, but there were times I wanted to completely forgo it and put it in the "Never finish because it sucks" list here on MAL, mostly because the heroine drove me nuts. STOP FREAKING FALLING. Seriously. However, the plot is actually interesting enough to make you wonder what is going on and I was no exception. Also, the math guy, I kept watching to see his route and he made the entire show more enjoyable just for that (sure, the fact that he believes and understands what is going on with the heroine is farfetched, but I suspended disbelief the minute I saw the popular guy hanging with the heroine. That said, the my enjoyment and interest escalated after episode 9, so if you can stick the series through (which honestly isn't THAT bad or that boring) you're in for a small, but nice treat. The pay off is worth it given what the anime is going for.
Over all: 7-7.5
Over all, it's not too bad of a watch if you're into eye candy, rather interesting/new plot and nice art. Again, this rating is based on what the anime is trying to be and it's really not as bad as others have said, so long as you know that it's shoujo based on an Otome game and has lots of bishies and a plain boring wish-fulfillment heroine who's personality decided to call itself dead, because it killed it. That aside, give it a watch if you like pretty boys and have already seen Ouran High School Host Club (parody/comedy) or Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (comedy) or Brothers Conflict (srs face) which all deal with great bishies and the reverse harem trope. So in conclusion, despite its glaring flaws, it's honestly not that bad of a show. In fact, the twist kinda made me go "well ... damn! 8O". The ending is a bit rushed, but it seems the entire show was rushed period. At least most everything is explained though, if not all said in about 5 minutes during the last 10 minutes of the episode. Give it a shot, at worst it's mediocre and boring and at best, it's actually rather interesting and fun to watch, if not for just the art or wanting to know what goes on in the plot.

This is my first review so I hope it sums things up alright.
Also DON'T READ THE SUMMARY ON THE KIDS, MAJOR SPOILERS. Someone should fix that, the entire story is given away on Hikora's summary and Sorincha's in particular. I first off would like to say I am not a big horror fan and am very queasy when seeing gore. That being said, even if I liked horror, I will stand by saying everyone is an idiot 99% of the time who is in a horror movie, but I suppose that's the appeal? Anyway, regardless of this, I did actually like the story, even though I ... |
