What is important in our lives? What are things permanently ingrained into our memories? These questions and many more are what "Frieren beyond Journeys End" tries to answer in it's own way.
Firstly, a quick TL;DR. If you don't like slow seemingly mundane shows, this is not a show for you. Don't bother even watching it, you'll either hate it or worse you'll just be bored.
Now back to the review
"Frieren beyond Journey's End" is about a quick snap shot of time out of the long lived elf Frieren. Frieren has lived for over a thousand years, to her a journey of 10 years might as

well be minutes. For her, her party members: Himmel, Heiter & Eisen might as well not even register to her. But that isn't the case at all. She calls the journey to defeat the demon king with them as a mere 10 years but as the years go by after she meets back up with them. They have grown old and the one she was closest to, Himmel is the one to die first. This death has such a profound impact on her but it isn't noticeable in the beginning.
This show is about time and how both we view it & use it. It's not just about the big events in our lives that matter, but also the little things. To never forgot the positive impact the ones we love have on us. To leave things a little better than what they were before.
Does this show have action packed moments? Yes 100% but they are mostly sprinkled throughout the show rather than say a show like JJK which is almost entirely that. You shouldn't watch Frieren for the action/fights those are merely a bonus to the show.
Hows the animation? Stellar, MadHouse brought their a-game, you'll find very very limited use of CGI in this show.
What about the music, this I would say isn't perfect but it's fitting for the fantasy setting.
You haven't talked about the characters aside from Frieren & Himmel, Why? The character's, are imo the absolute strongest part of this anime, it just doesn't work if they were different. Every major character stands out, from Frieren herself, to Fern her apprentice, to Himmel the hero, to later those that get introduced during the First Class Mage Exam.
What about me? How do I feel about it. For me, this is a master piece. I was engaged throughout it's entire 6 month long run. It's going straight into my top 10 anime of all time & I personally think it should never have a score lower than a 9. As for my score, it's a 10. As the last few minutes played for it's final episode for the season, I couldn't help but cry.
This is going to be an Anime that stands the test of time & will be one of the greats of it's time.
