This is not good.
The whole show got popular and keeps getting popular thanks to a meme of a dancing lady. A lot of people consider it the best comedy show they have seen, and a lot of people dislike the fact this is called a comedy anime.
I'm on par with the last example, this whole show is extremely repetitive and predictable, you can pretty much predict what's gonna happen in the next 10 minutes, without the help of any spoilers, most of the jokes and comedic parts are hardly funny or as you would like to call it "sarcastic". It was a premise with the
...
name of something so intriguing as "Psychological Comedy" but ended up being your next Sword Art, it is almost childish to call this Psychological just because of camera angles, and because some characters "threat" each other with words when both of them don't even know the meaning of love.
The whole direction of the series keeps going down with every episode and skit looking the same as before and the same as every other A-1 Pictures anime. Keeping the formula of generic episodic series.
The characters are (as mentioned) like any other characters the studio has produced, even if they are not made by the same person, their personalities, traits and such are always the same, lacking depth and complexity in their development.
The show itself started slow, and with forced comedy that barely made me smile, it is indeed a weak anime when it comes to this season. Would i recommend this? No. Would you enjoy it? Probably. Did I enjoy it? No.

The hype for this is quite reasonable, but the show itself is rather questionable.
This whole series is characterized by the word "TENSION", and by how it gets to you with all the moments that have suspense in it. With a show THIS slow I have no idea what's up to come. Particularly, this is supposed to be a horror based shounen anime, but the horror in it is rather wonky, leaving us only with the shounen part which is in no case different from other generic shounen series.
I do understand that tagging something as horror doesn't define anything, but in this case, it was
...
so hyped up for that certain reason, that i was expecting something else in return.
The story has an extremely slow pace, but i'm guessing the poor development of characters makes up for that?. The premise keeps a good point but fails everytime they want to introduce something different from what was already shown. Like i mentioned, everything from this is what you would expect from a generic shounen anime with the huge premise of MONSTERS (wow what a suprise)
The art is amazing and so is the animation, i can't compare it to anything to be honest, but it is as good as a "movie" type of animation and motion. The characters are drawn way better than in the manga, but it feels like in the manga the "messier" it is, the scarier it is (?).
Don't get me wrong, i do like the show and i do like they way they are doing most things. But it is progressing so slow that it makes it boring to even watch. I'm really having a hard time paying to attention to this, when it isn't something that needs it that much.

Edit from last drop, had to do it because mal's mod team acts in a weird way.
What is going on with the pacing of this? Seriously, they are either going too fast or going too slow. First 3 episodes were slow without any discussion or any explanation of the events happening. Episode 4 comes out, everything starts going way too fast, nothing makes sense, there's no correlation nor coherence between each scene. As far as this went, the story was everywhere, with a touch of a generic show, but it's not a surprise.
This show is perfect for those who ask they want action in each
...
scene, because all we see is them having a war with barely to any explanation of what's going on. All of this accompanied with weird and sloppy main characters that can't make a single strategy for the sake of their objectives.
The art department is not good, but not bad either. For some reason, they are using way too much CGI for a 2d anime. I understand they want to use cgi for large scale fights, but in this case they don't even try to hide it. The fights we see are just generic ones between knights and mages, althought most action scenes between the characters of interest were good. The design of the characters resemble the ones introduced in the novel, which is something remarkable.
I had to torture myself for the sake of the review and watch up to episode 7, but couldn't handle it after that. They aren't doing anything with the story, just introducing new wars between factions, introducing new characters, they don't explain anything, there isn't a single backstory or any sign of development, this series has 24 episodes, but the way it's going every episode is going to be the same, and i'm not up for that. dropperino

While the show has some some potentially good things, these are not part of the story. The show is generic to the bones, the actual plot is a straight copy of any superhero/superpower show, but for some reason, for people this show is the pioneer of that subject. Almost every quirk is boring, and the actual interesting characters have them. The show started great on season 1, with good guide and direction. The soundtrack was amazing, and the animation was ok. But everything went down from that point, season 2 and season 3 came out and the good animation went somewhere else, they had a
...
lot of mistakes during scenes and apparently giving hype to a static scene is a good thing (It is to be honest, but in this case, it is a bit too much). Apparently starting with heavy fanservice was a good move. At least they kept the good sound engineering. The whole plot keeps being all over the place, with the introduction of characters that probably won't ever appear.
For some reason, in this show, prioritizing bad fights with the main characters is a good thing, because the most interesting fights and characters barely get any screen time (And they are few)
The character development is confusing aswell. Everyone seems to be progressing a lot with their quirks and personalities, but Midoriya doesn't seem to be doing so well, while he has a strong will and all that kind of stuff, he barely gets any development and his actual story is nowhere. They focuse too much on Bakugo/Todoroki, leaving behind a potentially excelent main character.
The art is good for the most part, but like i said, the animation is really dull. The direction is going, it's just like any other shounen out there. The character design feels empty, with only a few characters being interesting enough to talk about.
The opening/ending combo has always been my favorite part, season 2 to be honest my favorites (Both arcs), this season though, the music just feels... there? It's like its just there but it doesn't stand out from the other 3 openings/eds. The background music is also a strong point, building hype for each scene. Same could be said about voice acting, and sound engineering in general, its all in the right place, with fantastical voice acting.
I can't say i enjoyed this, hence why i dropped it. Season 2 was horrible and this started with the left foot. Not my thing, please refrain from calling me a troll, if you are gonna report me, do it for something valid and not your "you didn't like it, therefore i don't like you".

This will be an edit of my last review.
People need to get this into their heads, this isn't an anime worth Series of the Year, and the reason being, is because just 1 episode made you think about it. Everyone went nuts, just with episode 15, but before it was just neutral and nothing out of the ordinary, if you guys are gonna say it's the best one of the year, you seriously need to watch other stuff. Or get your thoughts together, this isn't a chit chat on how you liked the last episode and why it should be the best series just because
...
of it, it is decided because of every episode, and this clearly is lacking everything in previous ones.
Now, for the first 12 episodes i thought this show was something special, but it really wasn't.
This show started with a good premise, at a high level from animation to plot, but the last one failed from there. It is a rather generic story full of bland characters that have such ordinary designs. It just follows an MC that is rather useless, in a world where unknown beasts are threatening humanity, but this place superior entity just use him/them for their benefits. They knew how to implement this into the plot, but it fell in itself rather quickly, the story is so goddamn slow and the development is so boring, the so "special plot" ended as nothing. They keep dragging the plot for something so used such as brain washing.
As long as art we are talking about, the animation is spectacular and the art is stunning, from the hands from one of the assistants of Kill la Kill, aswell as the character designer from Anohana. Every detail they make is remarkable that you know instantly who is doing each part. Althought, while i enjoyed this point, the character design for the Squad 13 felt boring and bland, they don't stand out and their designs are what you can get from a random character creator, but it's only that, their personalities are what makes this worth it. The desing of the FRANXXs are what i liked instead, they are colorful, their color palettes are really nice to the eyes and their robotic/human parts make them insanely interesting. While some people seem to dislike some characters, i personally like most of them just because of the way they act, just like normal human beings but without knowing their roots or what they are. It's like instinct, and people don't seem to realize this, but rather they threaten a person (ha) because how they made them.
The sound design and production are nice, again, you can recognize this kind of music from shows such a Kill la Kill for example. The first Opening is amazing and goes well with the whole mood, as well as the ending. BGM feels surprisingly in tone with the scenes shown, it seriously made everything way better. If we talk about the re-edit of the opening for the second part of the series... just don't watch it, it's all over the place, the scenes don't make sense with each other.
I decided in the end to drop it, because i'm tired of it already. They keep dragging it, something that could have been a good show of the season, but no, instead let's just slow the fuck down the progress made and keep introducing new stuff that makes no sense.

Re-edit of my last review.
Most of the people with low score on this expect a lot from the protagonist, knowing she basically doesn't have "emotions" or personality, she is a doll and that's the whole premise, i don't really see anything wrong with it and i don't get it. But let's be honest, While she understood and learnt new emotions, these were displayed in a rather slow pace, which leaves an open hole. Some others expected the series to have a huge amount of action, but they keep forgeting this is more on the Slice of Life side. This one had a lot of hype
...
during its announcement, and apparently most of it was negative because of previously mentioned reasons.
Story:
While i felt little attracted at firs to the character and story, a few episodes made me change my view on it. (Hence the fact that i love slice of life/drama shows) It really is nothing from the other world, there are plenty shows with the same idea, but "how" they execute that idea is what makes this pop up. In my case every single episode made me emotional but a bit disappointed on how the MC wasn't getting proper or rather slow development. Does that make it bad? Not in the slightest.
The whole idea of having different stories each episode and some of them being flashbacks made this story possible and acceptable, and somewhat a complex one. The development for characters and their stories is great nonetheless, like i said, each episode is a different story but they managed to make it so in almost 21 minutes a huge amount of info could be given to the audience, and obviously we comprehended all of this.
Art:
This has to be the most beautiful thing i've seen in the last year, the details of the visuals are outstanding, they gave life to every single character. A point i liked is that even when a character is zoomed out you can see how good it looked (Compared to most shows, where the characters just look derpy when drawn small *ahem, shokugeki*). Every background, scenery, tool, gadget, you name it, is absolutely captivating. Pretty much everything has some type of emotion put into it. It obviously has it flaws, but they are not worth naming them at this point.
Sound:
At first, while listening at the first episode, the sound was a bit unstable, the music wasn't really put in the best places but they managed to fix it on the next episode, and it clearly kept getting better and better. The opening feels a bit off to be honest, like, it doesn't really live up to the whole premise of the show, after a few listens i like it, but i still feel like it doesn't really fit in there. Overall, the sound engineering is great, every single sound is rich to the ear, and not being the generic ones they use for most shows is what make me love it much more. The voice acting is magnificent, the most important thing is that the match the characters, and this made justice to that.
Enjoyment/Character *included in the other ratings*
Overall:
While this is an overrated show that had an insane amount of hype built up before it began, it seems like the hype died for the majority because they were expecting something without "life lessons" and rather pushed towards action or something focused on fantasy, when it isn't. I don't know if the brain capability of this audience is not there, to be misunderstanding things just by the "title", but hey it's all about being subjective, so it doesn't really matter. It's a hit or a miss, and that's it. Just don't let the reviews change your overall impression of it, and instead make one impression by yourself. This is definitely one of my favorite series of the latest times.

So what's the big premise of this show? ... to just watch the same happen over and over again? Souma has been winning so many matches lately, and yet it's almost like nothing happens. 3 seasons in, and yet they keep introducing all kinds of
tournaments, where the winner, gets nothing in exchange. The fanservice keeps being the same, every reaction keeps being the same. To be honest, the food gets more development than the actual characters, it's strange. As far as this goes, this one cour has the be the worst of them all, with no progress in the story, and rather, it's filled
...
with nonsense to sell more.
The big idea: Souma wants to enter the Elite Ten. How is he going to do it?: No idea, 3 seasons in and nothing has happened. When is he going to do it?: Again 3 seasons in, but apparently seeing people excited and being almost nude because of food seems more interested than the actual "plot", if you can call that a plot.
Story-wise, not much here, in any case, this has been been the worst season of them all. The only big thing is Souma fighting for the place he lives in. After that (And before that) it's a rollercoaster of nonsense, all of these together with no explanation of the actions of some characters, leaving you without 0 clues, so you end up not knowing anything. It's a joke. While this one was 12 episodes it felt like reading the 3 first chapters of a manga. Almost 4 episodes contained what 1 chapter of manga could have, it was slow paced leaving a lot of cliffhangers in the end, so in the next episode they keep doing the same. So, repeat this 2 more times and you are done.
At least this part's art was better than the so garbage part 2. Not to sound rude of course, but the lack of quality in animation has always been part of this show, only concentrating on making face expresions look ridiculously weird and making girls excited from eating. Leaving behind any proper proprortions of the body, leaving behind all the work the Manga creator has put into it, just so the fanservice can take over it. (w)
Sound: I guess it was decent. There isn't anything remarkable at this point, everything seems in place, from the OP to the ED, to Background sounds and music to voice acting. Like previous season, they knew how to remix their music so they don't overlap over the voices. But they forgot that not everything is music, they are using a weird amount of music in every episode it gets annoying, and not exciting as i'm guessing they want it to be.
Character: Again, they keep introducing characters that seem quite interesting, just so they get defeated in some sort of Shokugeki and never appear again. While the main characters have already been developed, it seems they don't care about anyone else.
Enjoyment: Not best experience i've had, i could've dropped the series in the middle, but i decided to continue... i ended regreting not dropping it. It seriously feels like a joke, rather than a "cooking" show. Where's the progress? Oh, I see.
3/10.

So much hype for such an overrated series that can't get proper development. I see how it is nowadays with people's liking (Not that my liking is any good, it's just a saying). Such mediocre and predictable storyline with many "serious" encounters that won't ever happen in real life.
Story. 5
- As for the story, i don't understand what's the point. From a realistic point of view, none of this could ever happen, from the fanservice that makes no sense to those serious glances.
There's no real story, it's just the main character trying to be a thug and one of the best chefs, by being
...
slow. Everything is the same as previous seasons with the fact that first season had a more creative storytelling. At this point everything is about food battles with no real meaning and a bunch of almost if not nude scenes, resulting in 0 progress done, like what happened with that first half? Nothing?. Even those TV cooking shows have a better growth.
Art. 3
The art was horrible from a certain distance (Season 2 was worse, trust me). The animation was poorly done but at least you could get the idea of what was going on, i'll give props on that. Only on close shots you could see a certain progress compared to bigger shots with a lot of people or just a few.
Faces were the worst on trying to mimic feelings, i fully understand they wanted to give a proper sensation of them, but they are too exagerated that they were not funny but rather unpleasant. On the other side, i find it funny that Souma never changes his uniform, not for cooking, not for being in the house, not for anything. While everyone else respects the rules on that.
Sound. 5
I haven't been enjoying the OP and ED as much i would like, but it doesn't matter. The music is put on good placed and properly decreased the volume if someone was talking, but there is too much music in the show, of a 21 min. episode, at least 17 minutes have music in it. I don't really like that, i feel like they are trying to get me excited when i shouldn't be.
Character. 4
There was no real progress from season 2 for the main characters, but rather there's a bit of development for support characters. Some of them have changed, some don't even appear anymore, and some of them is like they didn't even care to give them a proper development, you get to see everything.
Enjoyment. 5
Overall: 4
This is just an overrated show that didn't deserve my attention, but still got it. It's far from being the worst i've seen but it's certaintly bad and extremely predictable. The ending was a cliffhanger, with again, predictable decisions. The idea of adding a bad guy that would get the support of superior people is not new and not enjoyable. The series just keeps going down and down for me, nothing i can do though.

This series has to be the worst of the whole saga.
Not even his Dad was this cringey. Every single dialogue is either out of place, makes no sense or is predictable. As seen in Naruto, the whole meme "Talk no Jutsu" is present here as well, but with the difference that in Naruto it took at least 2 or more episodes for Naruto to change the villain's mind. While in Boruto, they make it so they change their mind in 1 second, talk about having a sense of speech. They also took the Filler Jutsu from Naruto but again, they didn't know how to
...
do it. Why start a new saga, if it's all gonna be filler? Pretty much the only arc that hasn't been filler is the Shin Arc and that's it. Everything else, is blatant filler (And the boring type of filler).
There's no proper development or introduction for anything, not the story, not the new characters. literally nothing. The story is mostly a slice of life, with a slight sense of action scenes and mostly adventure. The story as said it is a slice of life, only because they just keep stretching it out by adding small portions of what a proper story could be, but they are just random. One episode they talk on how they want to be a ninja, on the other episode they go to another village, on the other episode they go to buy some kind of food, etc, etc. Is this seriously what they were looking for? At this point they seriously need to follow the source material, there's plenty of it, but hey! they just announced they will redo the movie with other characters... what a great surprise, but what a pathetic way to make profit, more than pleasing the audience, they are going for the money, and even if the series is hated, people will still buy it.
On the sound apartment, i can't say much. The music has always been one of the things i love of the saga, and this one doesn't disappoint. I like the fact that they changed it and now it's more of electronic music combined with rock and metal elements, to give it the feel that this is a new generation. So in this point, i'm pleased.
That's it for now, i haven't enjoyed the series as the hype i had before it came out. It's just disappointing to see how a series that was decent, went down because of a sequel. I'm not planning on dropping it though.

After watching this, i was wondering for about a year... Why is this series so popular? "How" did it become so popular? When it's one of the most generic and most boring anime that has been released in the last 10 years. From the overall story to the animation, everything seems traced from every other fantasy anime, with the turn that this has comedy in it, but of course, the comedy is nothing from the other world, just plain comedy, and most of the time, you already knew when a joke was coming and what it was about.
The whole selling point of this was
...
dying and going to another world of your choice (nothing new at this point, keep in mind that every one is doing it right now) but in this case is more of a game, rather than transporting to a "fantasy world". The comedy was sometimes fun, and other times bothersome by how repetitive it was, and for some reason, the MC screaming was somewhat funny for a selected group of people.
Of course, all of this can't be done without animation, but i don't really know if this series needed the animation, in the first place, while it felt a bit on purpose, it was horrible. From the characters moving, to what you get from a kid playing around with clay, deformed and the proportions wouldn't make any sense, but again, for some reason it felt like it was deliberately made that way, even nowadays Hentai series get better animation (Talk about being generous).
Sound it is hard to criticize as most anime have good audio, but it felt like there was 0 effort from the studio on putting the BGM in correct places. The seiyuu were a good choice, but the mc screaming all the time, is not something pleasing for anyone's ears.
While character development was ok for everyone, it felt "dry" or dull for anyone other than the MC, it felt slow paced, like if the only one of interest was the main chara when obviously the most interesting characters were the females.
Can't really explain my enjoyment for this, it was boring and predictable, while at some times they got me off guard, the animation was a main flaw that made me drop the number a lot, i wouldn't personally recommend this, but seeing how popular it is, most people would've heard of this already.
