FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
justice for Gokushufudou the manga, it deserved better than this.
Why did they think tracing the manga panels and panning the shots would count as animation? What the fuck is this I’m so mad.
The manga has such a funny concept. An ex yakuza member quits his yakuza life to live as a full blown husband. A simple premise but it makes way for a lot of comedy. It’s funny watching this big scary guy cooking the cutest meals ever, or trying to

buy flour from the grocery story but talking about it like it’s crack, or even interacting with other ex-yakuza members who have committed to domestic lives now. Hypothetically, animating this should have only heightened the humor and this hearing it should have been funnier too. But instead of animation we just get uglier tracings of the manga. As a result of the “animation” being so appalling, you can’t even appreciate the voice performances. And the timing is completely off that way because in manga the medium lets us understand that there are blanks we have to fill mentally between each panel but the still art is so gorgeous that it doesn’t matter. In the medium of television, everything should be visually filled in for us. That’s the point of animating manga you’re filling in the blanks and coloring it. But having it just be a shot for shot recreation opens the viewers eyes to how ugly these shots are in comparison to their more dynamic (and superior) manga counterparts. This literally looks on par with a webtoon commercial like why the fuck was Netflix ok with putting this out??? This is just so tragic...
I’m gonna go finish the manga to make myself feel better.
