Both manga have incredible art styles that are super cool. Immensely angst main characters with edgy, sad backstories. Lots of people beating the hell out of each other; in Levius it's boxing, while in Abyss Rage it's martial arts. All in all, both of these series are so freaking cool.

Shindou
|
A story about a boy and a girl with an odd personal/professional relationship born from a hyper fixation with something. In the case of Cross Manage it's lacrosse, rather than Shindou's piano. The story follows our two protagonists through their developing relationship using their fixation as a conduit, without downplaying the element and making it feel like a contrived excuse for these characters to interact. Cross manage is a more 'conventional' manga than Shindou at first glance, but they're both very good.

They're both serious, Sci-fi anime, from around the same time period, with an 'adventure of the week' episode format. They're also both very conscious of, and poinient about, their heavy themes and messages.
