I cannot quite tell you what exactly compelled me to write this review, but as I was looking through the other reviews made, I found myself itching to write one myself, so here I am. I've noticed that there's two ways to view this anime, you either dislike it or love it, and I am leaning far more towards the liking it than anything.
Of course this is a revenge plot, and the setting is a pretty normal adventure anime where the MC goes on a quest and becomes a hero, is surrounded by girls, gets super OP and then there's a happy ending. This anime
...
tips that idea on it's head. Keyaru is abused, raped and beaten down physically, sexually and emotionally day-in-day-out and pushed to the point where he is nothing more than a husk then is presented with the opportunity to reset his world and get his revenge on those that hurt him.
Now, what I really like about the revenge aspect of this is that Keyaru is just so OP by the point he gets to deal out is revenge, there's no stopping him. He is relentless and deals out just as much torture, if not less I'd argue, to those who tortured him day on end. The thing about his torture is that it lasted YEARS, whereas those he get's revenge on typically only really experience it once until they die, or they have their memory rewritten and he actually treats them with more respect than they deserve. Of course I'm not downplaying the level of pain he put these people through but considering what he experienced, I'd say it's tame.
That's what I love though, the ruthlessness. It's so new and fresh to see the MC just do whatever the fuck he wants without being too shy or scared or nervous, but be unhinged and dish out as much pain as they can. And it's fun to see him not lose over three episodes before he draws his special move, but he takes them out simply and cleverly in one episode. The whole time I was watching I couldn't help but think 'yeah, she deserves that 100%'.
This anime is the definition of 'porn with plot', or perhaps 'rape porn with plot'. Yet, despite that special 'r' word used which is usually a no-no for me, in the case presented in this story, I could not help but feel that it is quite validated.
Aside from the justification of his ludicrous actions, the art is surprisingly well done for a rape porn, ecchi harem anime. The fight scenes are fun to watch and bear satisfying results and the best part is that it is all consistent. Keyaru only hurts those who have wronged him or his friends and he does not stray from that path. He doesn't have doubts and concerns, no morality issues, just a guy dishing out punishment to abhorrent people and I love it!
