Charlotte was an absolutely excellent watch at the start. It was really interesting seeing the drama and antics of these kids with super powers, and how they applied said powers to their every day lives. The star of the story Yuu has the ability to possess people, and his application of said ability during the first episode was astounding and creative. If it wasn't for the final arc of the series, this would easily be one of my favorite series of all time. With beautiful visuals, excellent songs, and interesting characters it was dead set on being one of my favorite anime... Until the aforementioned

last arc. Spoilers ahead
It all starts with the death of his little sister. After this happens Yuu falls into a deep depression, and seemingly goes insane within as little as one episode. The emotional payoff at the end of the episode didn't manage to land at all, as we really didn't get enough time to watch his descent into madness. If they had made episode 7 into a 2-3 episode arc, rather then simply pushing everything into one episode and telling us to feel the emotional payoff, that arc would of come off so much better. That however, isn't my problem. My problem is how little the death actually meant. I'll be honest, when I saw that the Mc's sister actually died, I was astounded and impressed. It's not every day you see something like that happen in a show after all, but when they actually had the gall to revive her I was incredibly disappointed. The entire point of killing off a character is to see how that death affects the lives of the other characters, as well as to possibly push a character arc. To the shows credit, they did do that, but to then afterward revive said character is to completely undermine the entire character arc that the main character experienced. It's an insult to the viewers intelligence, and honestly really hurt the shows overall enjoyment.
Now let's talk about the cluster fuck... the last episode. They literally filled an entire seasons worth of content into this last episode, and it's what completely ruined the show for me. In this single episode, we have the main character travel across the entire world, lose his sanity, regain his sanity, almost die, finish his journey, return home after losing his memories, and get the happy ending. There was literally an entire hero's journey is this single episode, and it's ridiculous. The show could of easily just cut off at episode 12 with a cliff hanger, or give a proper ending by cutting out the entire plot of travelling across the world, and just have the abilities disappear naturally, and this cluster fuck of an ending would not have been a problem. Without even going into the ridiculous actions Yuu made (why the hell wouldn't you heal your eye? You clearly don't care about affecting reality as you saved your sister, and even if you didn't plan to rewind time still heal your fucking eye you moron) the cheesy "final ability being courage" along with the fact that a fucking nobody with a crossbow is the one to do Yuu in alone would be enough to ruin the episode. What's worst of all however, is that they honestly expected us to feel an emotional impact at the end, when they gave us that happy ending shit without any buildup to that point, as the entire episode was just a rushed mess. This ending alone ruined what could of been an absolutely fantastic series, and I've got to say it really ruined it for me
Overall, I'd recommend watching this series if you don't mind the cluster fuck of a final episode. It has some problems, but the visuals and sound design are great, and until those last few episodes the story was really interesting. It's just sad that they dropped the ball right before the goal post, as this show could of really been something special
