The ending sure was one of the endings of all time. Initially when they introduced the big planetary laser during the penultimate episode and stated that the following episode would be the final episode, I thought that meant it was the final episode of season two. Not the final episode of the entire series.
I was wrong.
As expected, they failed to properly resolve the series and brought in a large threat that could've been used for so much more interesting story development only to have it immediately be trounced by space magic that wasn't even fully explained during the course of the series.
It's a shame
...
because the music direction, character design, and animation was quite good. Along with the political intrigue that they had built up during the first season and the initial half of the second season, this anime truly had the potential to be a mainstay in the Gundam franchise. Unfortunately, they failed to deliver for reasons unknown.
"Asticassia" and "The Witch From Mercury" were both spectacular soundtracks that managed to evoke an uplifting and "epic" feeling despite being a pleasant departure from the well-known beats of Sawano. The character design was likewise masterful with special mentions to Suletta's bean eyebrows and Cecilia's thighs.
Honestly, it's just a waste of a perfectly good plot and cast. They didn't even give us a wedding scene. C'mon, man.
