Tenchi Muyou Universe is basically an alternate universe of Tenchi Muyou Ryououki. And that's it.

All the characters are different, and the story is a different in certain keypoints, but somehow the core of the Tenchi, still remains. The characters even though now they have a different origin, their story still stays the same. Same but different but still the same.

The art changes a little bit. It is not really the same, there are minor differences between outfits, and probably as a whole general there are others key differences. The animation is exceptional.

The sound and the music are exceptional. There are some slight ... differences in acting towards the Tenchi's father and grandfather, where the differences are big. But the rest is exceptional.

IF you are a fan of Tenchi you will surely not miss it.

There is alot to be said about this show. It is awful. I certainly don't recommend to watch. You waste your time. You don't really make any sense of what's happening.

If you already seen the 3rd season. You don't need to watch the 4th season at all, because most of the plot is reused from season 3.
The whole plot of this series is literally about alternate Tenchi Muyou universes series characters while reusing plot from the original trilogy. This is not Tenchi Muyou Ryououki anymore. The main characters barely exist in this series. The only thing that exists is maybe the Tenchi residence.

The way they ... do it is by cutting everything the show had good in it, starting with the main characters, with the art itself, and by literally throwing dialogue as a main plot device, to introduce a new main character in the place of Tenchi. The original characters have little to nothing to do with this show, while there are introduced up to 20 characters per episode.

The art was wholly digital, and the old Tenchi drawing style was redone into a new one. Most of the characters where copy paste with few alters. Colors were poor. Very few shades were used. Contours, what are those. The backgrounds where redone as well and because of that we won't be seeing but few residences, most of the time - Tenchi's.

Sound was obviously poor. I am ashamed to hear this. The intro and the outro changed the whole tonality of the show. They don't have anything to do with it really.

The story is awful. There is nothing but too much dialogue with little to nothing about anything that really matters in this series which is hard to follow and make sense of it.

Tonight we celebrate the hero.

A slice of life, adventure shounen/shoujo styled sort of isekai involving monsters, ghosts, gods featuring a heroine, and a well defined at that.

Think of this anime what would've happened if Chihiro would've grew up from Chihiro to Sen movie. While it does not feature the style of Ghibli studios, it does feature that similar story with less symobolism.

The main story is great. The characters are lovable and iconic, besides being relatively original. Well defined. Very well thought through.

It features several main characters and it revolves around a romantic relation between the main female character and the main male ... characters of the show.

It has from time to time its share of dragging sort of, but it does not bother, and it helps with the development of the story.

The art is original. The music, you'll love it, especially the 2nd season.

I recommend it if you are a fan of Sen to Chihiro movie from Ghibli studios.

It's not really a typical isekai as it does not inserting its main character into an unknown world, but rather the main character belongs there. And the world is typical for isekais nowadays - dungeon based.

The title I find it misleading, as most of the action in the anime does not imply the main character really picking up girls in dungeon... and most of its romance is engaged by the female characters of the anime.

The story starts off bland, making you wonder many times why do you watch it, but as it unfolds it does have its share of slice of life ... sort of, and original plot. Besides all these it revolves pretty much on the main character assembling rather a party of female characters and adventuring into the dungeons ... It's share of romance goes from main character chasing a girl, while others are already noticing him and chasing after him.


A good anime to watch if you like to start a new adventure in some dungeons and defeat some monsters.

Tenchi Muyou Ryououki is a classic cult must watch no matter how much you will like it or not.

It's most plot devices come from the golden era of 80s anime, the art is magnificent, the story simple and alien in its originality.

The art is magnificent and original. Well drawn. Introduces all sorts of new things you can't grasp and you can't take your eyes from, things that are beautiful and which do not follow any kind of anime pattern.

The characters are not over exaggerated, even though most of their lines from time to time are forced, they connect with each other as if ... they were real. They do their humor antics from time to time and they don't fall into ridiculous. The story revolves very well around them, it's fluid.

And the Opening is legendary.

El Hazard stands out as a magnificent masterpiece.

I've rewatched it and it hasn't lost its fragrance.

The art is top notch. Starting from background art to characters, everything is well-defined and has its place in the story.

The story itself may look meh, but, it really isn't. It is a well thought story. The characters may get sloppy from time to time, but they are well defined and fluid. The plot itself is great and it has its share of everything. Its catchy and it stays catchy. Its funny. Its dumb. Its wonderful. Its original.

The music and the sound is impressive.

2nd season of the anime drops its art animation quality. This says alot.

Focuses more and more on the younger characters in the show, making the main character starting to look more and more like a stage prop.
The plot devices moves on to introducing new characters while developing an interesting conflict that is going to be seen probably in the next season, or maybe never.

What I disliked was that the main characters of the 1st season received visible downgrades on all aspects besides of their art - they become dumber, more bad at things, more lines where they most of the time don't know what ... are they talking about - aka the story itself was rushed.

One big problem is that the main story is dragged and has lots of fillers this season, more than probably the last season and you won't be able to stand to watch them all.

They really tried to expand the story, but they overdid the fillers, while the main story's great points where most of the time neglected.

The fanservice this season was really bad. The romance was better in the secondary plots than in the main plot. The character developing plots where rushed, artificial, overall bad and bait as it were plot devices for fillers which had nothing to do with the main story.

They had lots of concepts they tried to touch, but because of many problems they didn't quite succeeded, but they managed to pull through some of the main story well.

Well, I thought that Aniplex releases are usually trash, and this anime seems to confirm it.

So far the sound is sub par, a very low audio quality studio.... You can effectively hear the type of low quality microphones used... Besides this the music is out of place, out of space and terrible. It has no point. Whatsoever. It's so bad it's tiresome.

The art is mediocre.

The "fanservice" plot device of brother sister romance bonding is besides devious, disgusting and more than all of these idiotic.

... The dialogue is forced. It has little to no connection to the main story.

The way the main character is treated, is idiotic. They wanted him to look badass, but they didnt succeeded, making him look like an out of place weirdo who thinks too highly of himself, even though he may or may be not be as gifted as the whole plot/story/idea of the anime is. The dialogue lines he's force fed builds up more on the idea of just how bad the writing is.

The forced slice of life magical school where stuff happens is dragged, delaying the plot, you can literally feel the authors of the show had no idea what were going to do the next episode.

The fanservice is bad and unrealistic. Fanservice in this case means girls falling for
a tall guy because he is a tall guy and he speaks all sorts of polite idiocies which makes them flush their cheeks and makes his sister literally force herself on him. That is considered fanservice in this anime. Add that to the slice of life rhythm of this anime and you get your nerves and brain melting. And as its poor taste pinnacle on its throne stays the brosister complex....

The anime feels kitchy -- you know those bad drawn candies full of sugar the adults fed you as gifts when you were a kid? poorly designed wraps but good enough to pique your interest, but when you taste it so full of artificial flavoured sugar and low quality chocolate you wanted to throw up? well if you are familiar with this, you know then how and what this anime is or feels like.


Too commercial. Feels like something built around the art itself. Someone made a picture and threw ideas in a bin. Did not connect the dots. Threw some lines. Made another picture. And here we are....

I personally think that this anime is trash.

It wanted to be a shounen style Psychopass anime, but failed horrendously and miserably.

I might drop this as I'm still waiting for the main plot to happen.

The story continues to develop in higher and higher conflicts, it expands beautifully. Loved it until the end. WANT MOAR.

Here what I said in my first review only comes true, as the main character is himself shoved back-stage only for the true character to come out. But this season is the magical world on stage, and the real world only acts as a hero.

More than this, they managed to create well made mythos of the magical world.

You may get bored, because of the small plot devices, but this is only happening because ... the main story is too large to be fully displayed.

This anime is on par with Overlord, Tate no Yuusha, Re: Zero hajimeru, in my opinion.

Why? Because the animation is very solid. The art style does not drop after the first season. The story is very huge, in fact so huge that I don't think that covering 10 seasons would do it justice.

Besides all this, even though the plots are full of cliches and mediocre characters it has as it base drive story a device that is uncommon and ORIGINAL. The creator of the series knew very well where to touch true anime fans.

Sound quality was okay. It was good. Pleasant to ... hear. The opening and ending did not seem very appealing to me, but they still get their 10.

You may be enraged why would I give such a good note to this anime. But the truth is that ORIGINALITY blows everything out of scales of comparison and the effort to mantain a good styled anime it is what makes anime an anime and not just a cartoon. Those 2 things are statements on how things should go.

It is an isekai anime where the whole world engages in contact with another magical world. The whole world as it can be possible be depicted in the real life is put in conflict with another magical world. So I would rather place this into a slice-of-life, isekai as impossible as it would sound.

The main character is not the one portrayed in the anime. Is the whole world. The so-called main character I think is just a plot-device to offer the viewer the chance to see what would happen if... This is the only reason why it would be hard to get and why you won't really fall in love with the main character. Because you don't watch isekai because you are a fan of reality too much, you watch because you want to escape the current world and to relax and have fun in another one.

The main story is portraying huge conflicts, I would call them macro-conflicts, and the usuall small plot anime cliche devices, even though drag the story at some points, they are not enough to drag the whole story down, partly because they are secondary.

I could go on and on. Just go watch it.
