Both Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners are directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi. As a result, both have similar art styles. Another thing that TTGL and Edgerunners share is the way both anime escalate to the finish line. However, aside from these similarities, there isn’t much shared between the two. Regardless, I was reminded of TTGL while watching Edgerunners, and is a good and lighter alternative.

Blood. Gore. Chaos. Insanity. These four words are what I’d describe both Dorohedoro and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Both take place in insane settings with a healthy amount of chaos, and both have a group of oddballs (more so in Dorohedoro) as our main protagonists. However, Dorohedoro is somewhat lighter and more crazy than Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Regardless, it’s something that Edgerunners might be interested in.

While Cyberpunk: Edgerunners isn’t about arms dealers, I feel that there are some similarities with Jormungand. Both are dark anime involving a young boy getting involved with a dark world. Funnily enough, both of their bosses have white hair…however, David is older than Jonah, and Jormungand isn’t as explicitly violent. Jormungand also has a second season. However, I think Edgerunners scratches that Jormungand itch pretty well, so check it out if you haven’t!

When I watched Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, I was heavily reminded of Akame ga Kill!. Both anime involve the MC getting thrown into a dark and brutal world. However, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is darker and more violent than Akame ga Kill!, which while still being violent, has more humor. That, and Akame ga Kill! is longer at 24 episodes. If you liked one, check out the other!

To me, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners feels like a more modern version of Black Lagoon to me. Both have the exact same premise, with the MC joining a group of people who don’t do the most legal things. Both have the same amount of strong language as well. However, there are some differences. Black Lagoon is more episodic and not as gory as Edgerunners. That and they have very different settings. However, if you liked Edgerunners, I’d suggest Black Lagoon next.

Both Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica and Yakusoku no Neverland look cute at first sight, but appearances aren’t everything, as these two anime are much darker than they initially appear. The plot of both anime involve children trying to survive a dark world, and there’s definitely some similarities in the characters, with Madoka being similar to Emma and Homura being similar to Ray. If you want short anime with interesting and dark storylines, these two are your best bet. Just avoid the second season of Yakusoku no Neverland, and you’ll be fine!

While they don’t look similar at first glance, Pandora Hearts and Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica share some elements. The soundtracks of both anime are very similar, as they were both composed by Yuki Kajiura, which gives both anime a similar atmosphere as a result. The main characters, Oz and Madoka, also act similarly, and most importantly, both anime subvert their respective genres. Out of the two, I prefer Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica, but Pandora Hearts has it’s moments.

Noragami and Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun both focus on Japanese mythology and spirits, and both revolve around a girl (Hiyori/Nene) bound to a very funny and mischievous supernatural entity (Yato/Hanako). Both anime have a very similar style of humor, and have a similar feeling as a result. However, Noragami has more action and better animation, and both anime have very different art styles. However, they are similar enough that I can easily say if you enjoyed one, you’ll enjoy the other.

Watching Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun really reminded me of my experience watching xxxHOLiC. Like Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun, xxxHOLiC revolves around a normal human getting involved with supernatural mysteries. Both are more focused on comedy than normally expected from this kind of show. I prefer Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun because xxxHOLiC has weird animation, but they are both good and worth a watch.

Both series also have a similar art style and a similar kind of humor, though Midori no Hibi is a little more grounded than Seto no Hanayome is. Check them both out, they both deserve a watch!

While Excel Saga is much more out there and less crude than Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, both series do quite the amount of have similarities. Excel Saga and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt both have tons of parodies of a ton of stuff, and the set of main protagonists are similar as well. Both series have a duo of incompetent women (Excel and Hyatt/Panty and Stocking), the leader (Il Palazzo/Garterbelt) and the pet the girls terrorize to no end (Menchi/Chuck). I recommend both of these anime for people who want wacky AF anime parody comedies.

FLCL and Kill la Kill have a very similar feeling, art style, and tone. The plots are very different, but they have the same kind of energy where everything is over the top, and anything can happen no matter what. While I like both, I will have to say Kill la Kill is the better one out of the two. FLCL is much weirder, but IMO it’s just too weird for no reason. Kill la Kill is a little bit scaled back in weirdness and is easier to comprehend as a result, but has more fanservice, so keep that in mind.

However, Uchuu Patrol Luluco is lighter than Kill la Kill, and doesn’t have ecchi. I prefer Uchuu Patrol Luluco, but I would still recommend both anime to other people. Also, there’s some references to Kill la Kill in Uchuu Patrol Luluco as well!

Both anime have a similar art style and a similar sense of random and over the top humor that’s very wacky. Both anime have the same director as well and both series are 13 episodes long. However, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is much more vulgar than Uchuu Patrol Luluco, and has normal length episodes, while Uchuu Patrol Luluco has shorter episodes. If Neon Genesis Evangelion was written by a crazy person instead of a depressed person, it would probably end up like FLCL.
