“Miru Tights”
Soothing droplets of water fall endlessly onto the pavement, the rain creating a calming ambience as a relaxed instrumental piece plays in the background. These two words float, full of breath, out of an unseen character’s mouth.
And then the show begins.
Anime has seen many different shows get praised as masterpieces over the years, and Miru Tights is no exception. High-quality animation is the first striking trait of this show, with smooth movement, barely-noticeable CGI, and vivid coloring to really bring it to life. Popular animation studios like Kyoto Animation and A-1 Pictures are always highly-regarded for their great animation, but the Yokohama Animation Lab—the

studio that brought Miru Tights to life—is certainly going to be recognized for their wonderful job.
The pros don’t stop there, either.
Sound quality of this show is top-notch, and this is coming from an audiophile. I find the BGM to not be too loud, but at the perfect volume to still hear the refreshing voices of the main cast. They must have used some quite expensive microphones to be able to project their voices so clearly, despite some scenes requiring a more stimulating voice-over. This show also only has an ED, opting for one of the cast to say the title of the show, “Miru Tights,” as described earlier. The ED itself seems to pull inspiration from Bunny Girl Senpai, in that there are 4 different versions of this groovy, almost-lofi ending. Three of these endings are sung by one of the individual main cast, while the 4th one, played on the last episode, is sung by the trio together. This sets the mood for a nice, relaxing, 1-minute end to the 4-minutes episodes.
Speaking of which, each episode of this perfect show is only 4 minutes long! If you don’t have much time to watch an anime, or are busy rewatching some long battle shounen about a ninja wanting to become the leader of his village, this is the perfect break from the usual.
You only need 1 hour to experience a masterpiece. If an opportunity like this arose, how could you refuse? I know I wouldn’t.
The characters really shine, as well. Ren Aikawa, an innocent, intelligent, and hard-working girl, spends a lot of her time with her best friends, and even has a part-time job at a cafe, where she increased sales by over 240%! Incredible performance, Ren. Yua Nakaben is a flirtatious girl who enjoys cosplay and posting on Instagram. Very good character, and the strong hints at yuri between her and Ren make for good comedy elements during the show. The third of the main cast, Homi Moegi is a bakadere through and through—forgetful for important outfits and ignorant to typical public behavior standards. She is consistently adding light comedy to the anime.
And then there’s the teacher.
Ms. Okuzumi seems to be a brilliant teacher—her methods of aiding students seem very effective. Instructors are meant to help their students achieve their dreams, and Ms. Okuzumi’s demonstration was no exception. Another demonstration that was equally as impressive was the work of her seiyuu, Ai Kayano, the queen of ara ara. Her incredible vocal control really adds to the professional feel that Ms. Okuzumi gives, and, of course, adds to the quite stimulating sound of the masterpiece as a whole.
The quality and voice acting doesn’t end there, either.
Ren Aikawa is voiced by Haruka Tomatsu, who was the seiyuu for Kyouko Hori in the winter 2021 romcom Horimiya. Not only does Miru Tights have talented female voice actors, but it even boasts a prominent male seiyuu as well, in Houchuu Ootsuka, who famously played as Jiraiya in a certain ninja battle shounen.
What an absolute masterpiece. Quality oozes from the pores of this content-rich anime, from top-tier animation, to its fitting soundtrack, and, of course, the famous voice actors.
Now, about the content.
The name is all you need to figure out the basic focus of this show. Miru Tights, a pun on the English-read “mere tights” and the Japanese meaning of “see tights” is a clever way to explain the plot of this show.
Everyone rejoice! There is finally an anime that focuses solely on soles. Hosiery-clad students and teachers alike spend their days enjoying school, work, and life as a whole, and this peaceful bliss (with the occasional Moegi chaos) really gives this show its charm. It’s a pretty tight slice of life in the end, that also just happens to benefit from having the most detailed feet and tights known to anime. Quite impressive work here, as the animators have really done well to stay faithful to the original creator, pixiv artist yomyom’s, designs.
Wow.
When it comes to underlying meanings and relevance to today, Miru Tights still gives to the audience. At first glance, the anime may seem like a shallow slice of life show with comedy sprinkled in it, but seeing the daily lives of these girls really lets the audience learn to appreciate the little things in life. I know, I know, it’s a little cliché, but worry not! There’s more to it than that. The plot gives insight into the tension of romance felt by people who are experiencing it for the first time, the impact of poor studying habits as observed by high school students, and even a dive into consequential observational theorems as researched by real scientists that study science. Scientifically, that is.
So is Miru Tights a good show?
I’d have to say yes. It’s combination of talented seiyuu, relaxing OST, incredibly perfect art and animation, and, of course, its almost endless underlying deep meanings, there really is no other way to describe this anime but perfection.
Or maybe I just like feet.
