Have you ever seen the Martian? Did you enjoy just watching Matt Damon use his brains to solve a bunch of different problems? Then this manga might be for you, because it's very similar, though it focuses more on social and political issues, such as political marriages, economics, and dealing with tyrants, rather than technology or survival.

As a standard Isekai, it's nothing amazing. There's drama, some suspense, enjoyable characters, but there's also a lot of talking/exposition about what to do in the political battleground that might leave you a bit bored if you're not interested in that stuff.

That said, I ... enjoyed it. I laughed, I cared about the characters, the art is good, and most of the decisions/solutions I could follow and made sense.

Quick summary: Characters are hard to enjoy at first, but gets a lot better. Don't decide until the 5th episode at least. Enjoyable romance and drama anime. Has some very adult themes, sometimes uses the "not what it looks like" situations, but also has real, enjoyable comedy and drama.

This review is after also reading the manga, so I'm bringing a bit more than just the current episodes into this. I'll try to keep it limited to where I think the season will end, though (no spoilers).

While definitely having aspects of Harem anime, I'd say this falls into a more ... Romance anime, because the focus stays mostly on the main girl. This show reminds me of a mix between Quintessential Quintuplets and Pet Girl of Sakura Hall.

There is some solid character development for the MCs, but somewhat lacking in the additional characters. I'd love to see more development for them, but it doesn't suffer too much because the level of development tends to match how involved/important they are.

For the Drama aspects, its similar to Sakura Hall where different characters have different goals and ideals and we watch them struggle to achieve those goals, with the emotions associated with that, and how they're supported by each other.

Overall, pretty solid romance, good drama, you get some solid feels out of this show.

P.S., I hated Mami-Chan in the first few episodes, bet you will too, but luckily she tends to fade away (I didn't enjoy the hatred despite her deserving it). There's hints of hidden character for her, and I'm hoping for more so we can understand/appreciate her more, but nothing yet. Luckily she's barely involved after the beginning.

This is another harem-ish anime that does everything fairly well, and a few things quite well.

I almost quit after the first two episodes because they follow the standard harem story -MC walks in on a girl in her underwear, they make a bet, she is his "slave" after she loses.Oh, also his SISTER enters the scene and tries to romance MC too and creates some conflict.

After that, it still follows the Meet girl-> Girl in trouble->MC Only One Who Can Save Her stories, or the Hate the Establishment stories.

It actually creates a romance that gets focused on and developed compared ... to other harem shows, but that's the only thing that stands out in this show.

This is a great story that has an amazing mix of comedy, romance, drama and hard-hitting feelings. I put this as a ten, because it is one of my favorites now, but because I have a few critiques I actually would give it 9.5.

Kokoro Connect covers a lot of really heavy emotions and struggles people have, such as Self Identity, Old wounds, Being honest about yourself, and trusting your friends, and dives into how those struggles shape the relationships with others around them. Even if you can't relate to all the struggles, the characters and writing is strong enough to keep you engaged ... and caring about what happens.

The pacing is really good; it starts out fairly lighthearted and funny, and slowly progresses into the harder topics and frustrations while still being true to the characters. Sadly, the final arc (14-17) frustrated me because the viewer gets to figure out the problem early on but has to watch the characters flounder for a few episodes, which made me enjoy that story less.

All 5 characters are developed really well; while Taichi is definitely the main Protagonist and seems like a perfect savior at first, each character gets their own hardships revealed and has to overcome these challenges, and Taichi gets some of the same treatment. While the different arcs tend to have one or two characters as the focus, they all still struggle and experience growth in good ways.

This show is kinda trash but I love it - it feels kinda like a guilty pleasure.

It doesn't do anything new, other than a somewhat original premise, but it does it well.
Warning: the show doesn't really finish; there's an arc closure in ep 12, but there's no romantic story finish in the anime (looks like you'll need to follow the manga/LN to get that)

Pros: Most of the characters were well fairly well developed, and all had fairly good reasons to be involved with the MCs, rather than the standard "inexplicably drawn to whoever the protagonist is." The stories and shenanigans were fun, ... the relationships were (mostly) wholesome, and there was even some good character development. I didn't feel bored in any of the episodes. (Except episode 13, its just a filler episode independent of any other story.)

Cons: Too much gratuitous fan service - there was some fan service that was connected with the plot that I thought was well done, but they threw in a LOT of extreme unnecessary stuff that kinda ruined parts for me (including nudity in ep 12).

The main draw of this show is a cute girl; while it does do other themes and ideas in the show pretty well, that is the main theme this anime leans on.

It does quite a few things well, such as touching on her differences from humans and her struggling with that, and how "it takes a village," building the relationships she has with other characters in the show, but most of these have been done before, or its not thoroughly explored in this show (they rarely dwell on the same issue for more than one episode, if that)

Not much happens. Honestly, I was ... surprised when I realized it was almost done, because so little had happened. I think this show spent a bit too long world building for a single season show, so it is a bit lackluster. However, it sets itself up really well for additional seasons: there are plenty of ideas and history brought up but not explored for excellent potential. If this show gets additional seasons and does more story than world building, this has potential to be a great show.
