The show is absolutely fantastic, and while some might label it as "an anime for those who dream of being liked by a popular person," there's so much more to it than that. Sure, on the surface, that interpretation isn’t wrong—but honestly, you're missing the deeper point.
This anime isn’t just about romance; it's about how the right person can completely transform your world. It's about that moment when someone special walks into your life, turning your grayscale existence into something vibrant and full of color. The romance here isn’t overly complicated, but it’s the way the story is written that really stands out. We see
...
Ichikawa's emotions getting all tangled up—his doubts telling him it’s hopeless, but his heart pushing him to act anyway. It’s a beautifully relatable struggle, and it’s written in such a way that you can’t help but root for him.
Both Ichikawa and Yamada have their own battles to fight. Yamada, for instance, is grappling with her career as a model and actress. She’s afraid she might end up quitting again, just like she has in the past. She’s stuck in a moment of confusion, unsure if she even loves her job anymore—until Ichikawa steps in and tells her how much she seems to enjoy it. That small moment of encouragement is powerful, and it speaks volumes about their relationship.
I absolutely adore their interactions. They’re just so damn cute together. And yes, I’ve heard the critiques—“it’s too generic, it’s been done before,” blah, blah, blah. But honestly? I love this kind of stuff. Maybe it seems cliché, the whole "loner guy falls for the popular girl with the big boobs" scenario, but in the end, it’s all about the execution. And here, the writing really shines.
Ichikawa’s character development is spot on. Watching him grow from a socially awkward kid into someone who can actually enjoy life, talk to girls like a normal person, and muster the courage to do things most of us would shy away from, like speaking in public or confessing his feelings, it was incredibly satisfying. It’s like seeing your younger sibling evolve from an annoying little brat into someone you genuinely enjoy hanging out with.
And seriously, this couple? They’re probably the cutest I’ve seen in a long time. Maybe even the best romance I’ve watched so far. They’re supportive of each other in a way that feels real and meaningful. Sure, there might be other anime with this kind of bond, but right now, this one takes the cake for me.
Oh, and despite Yamada being gorgeous with a great figure, I’ve honestly never found myself focused on that. The story is so engaging that it keeps me glued to my seat without needing cheap distractions.
What really grinds my gears in most romcom anime are:
1. Excessive, unnecessary fan service.
2. Shows that rely solely on the characters’ looks rather than delivering a solid story.
This anime, though? It’s a breath of fresh air, and I can’t recommend it enough.
