First arc was undoubtedly the best in terms of pacing,plot and reality.. need I say more? Unfortunately The e-Card game with Tonegawa is where the series begins to falter and decline. This is ofcourse due to stagnated pace of the game and the inclusion of narrators repetitive dialog of basic scenes made it all the more torturous. (Unlike HXH2011) But fortunately it wasn't the worst arc as we see great character development through these scenes and call it what you will; classic underdog scenes are the best as they are the most relatable and hard to get wrong;

I mean look at Naruto & Black
I can't fathom how the plot resorted to drawing lots towards the end but oh well I guess that is the divine inspiration from a Godly box of tissues. But the tissue (get it XD bad pun) of predictability does arise as we're reminded of Kaiji's (The MC) stupidity as he wagers his ¥20M without a without assessing other possibilities which were apparent to both his opponent and us the viewers. The use of plastic theatre established here; succeeds in infuriating the audience as we scream and shout loud at our monitors from the clear cut BS of Hyoudous draw that phased our naiive MC Kaiji.
I must say I love the BGM & OST's as it really riles up and adds to the tension . Best thing about this series is that it is not afraid to make sacrifices; which is very uncommon for both seinen and shounen series nowadays. Kaiji is somewhat annoying attitude has a far deeper purpose for example the ignorance of accumulating ¥20M from nothing and to throw it away and wager it all over again is done on purpose to agitate the audience as stated above; its a common method to make the audience think "I would have just taken the money and used it to buy...". Judging from the comments and my own reaction this simple trick 'did the trick'. The realism that Kaiji Utlimate Survivor showcases a side of reality that is often overlooked. Debt. And Im sure most of us that watch it can relate to the MC. Realism in this show gives it a 9/10 - Although men don't cry nearly as much.
