Wacky, nonsensical, Tomino-directed giant robot shows with great action scenes. Daitarn 3 is old and a bit ugly, but like any good Plain Jane, it more than makes up for being unattractive by having great character(s) and charm.

"What the hell did I just watch?-the Movie" is a perfect match for "What the hell did I just watch?-The Animated Series". They're both intentionally lo-fi and shitty, too. Kinda. Maybe.

Both share a director, and both have a flair for crazy dramatic kung-fu battles with wuxia influences. (G Gundam makes up for the lack of magical Chinese ninjas with Magical GERMAN Ninjas) And see if you can hear a familiar voice in the Japanese language tracks!

AKA Fang of the Sun:Dougram. Same director, same focus on realism, characters, and story than on selling toys. The Revoltech action figures are still pretty boss.

While Brygar/Braiger/Brigar has nothing to do with Monkey Punch, the characters have the same kind of design, and the whole series has this awesome sense of style that you can only find in 70s and early 80s anime. In fact, the J9 team is pretty similar to Lupin's,too.

Yet ANOTHER remake of a Go Nagai favorite. The General of the Underworld is bad. Mazinkaiser needs to beat him up. It's awesome.

Remake/tribute to another Go Nagai favorite, that's a bit more faithful to the manga. Expect lots of violent rape.

Most of the similarities lie in the mecha designs and style than anything else, but if you're into the genre, this is probably one of the reasons you watch a series. I wish that IGPX went with the pilot, but I was still satisfied with the end product. Anyway, a mecha battling arena plays a big part in the earlier portions of Votom's story, and acts a teaser to draw you deeper into the universe.

Very similar mecha and equipment design, right down to the goggles. Plays up the "robots as 'realistic' tools and weapons" angle quite a bit, and both series have an experienced (at least, I assuming the main character in Higan is, as there are no English subs) soldier as the protagonist. Obviously, being more than 5 minutes, Votoms is much more fleshed out, and takes a few turns you might not expect.
