many similar plot points (won't get into them much to avoid spoilers); - humanity inside of walls - main character that undergoes drastic changes - rather cold secondary main character who likes and protects the main character - both also have a recurring character, whose gender is ambiguous (hange & inukashi)

Given

group of boys practicing for their hobby - in given it's their band and in hoshiai no sora it's tennis. both anime look fairly soft / cute, but do show some darker sides of growing up. also, while hoshiai no sora isn't a boys love anime, it does have queer representation.

Hoshiai no Sora

Both are school club sports anime with a similar formula; broke, but talented boy is friends with the leader of a sports club and joins it. In both anime, the groups are unmotivated, but they still practice and get better over time. I'd say the only big difference between both is that Hoshiai no Sora tackles multiple darker topics that younger teenagers can face, while Running with the Wind is more on the mature side of things with an older teenager / young adult cast.

Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru.

if you think about it, oregairu is like "what if school days was a romcom without constant betrayal and lying". - both have nihillistic main characters who dont give a damn about anything most of the time, but like to be helpful on rare occasions - mcs furthermore struggle with social interactions - different girls having feelings for them as well - basic school life anime with pretty common school events like school festivals

recommendation is directed at the zero escape game as well; not just the ova! both are trippy in a way that both are trying to solve murders and situations in very different environments (zero escape having different endings with connection & id invaded having the different minds of people) and both have an escape room-esque vibe with the zero escape games having actual escape rooms, while id:invaded has the different consciousnesses also side note; uchikoshi's other game series, ai: the somnium files, also picks up the whole "jumping into someone's mind to solve a murder / series of murders" concept
