This reveiw will most likely contain spoilers.
Honestly I have read the manga and I wasn' t too amazed but still decided to watch the anime because why not. And honestly Chainsaw man did not disappoint. Whilst it isnt an anime that I would normally watch it is definitely worthy to try out. Even if its just on the basis of the animation, voice acting, and OT and the various ET. The reason why I am slightly hesitant is solely beacuse of the plot. When reading the manga I wasn't blown away, everything was lack luster and it felt like a stereotypical manga that
...
used crude humor and didnt really delve deep into any actual meaning. But now after watching eight episodes that is kinda what I like about it. Instead of being a stereotypical shonen anime where the main character is powered by the love of his friends, Denji is just powered by his lust. The plot itself is kinda bland but overall the animation is phenomenal, its literally what Tokyo Goul should have been. So I do have mixed feelings as I quite like lighthearted animes with a likeable maincharacter that teaches me life lessons, I do still like Chainsaw man. The highpaced plot makes sense with the morally doubious cast and I genuinely am in love with the animation. Honestly I would compare Chainsaw Man to Demon Slayer and Dorededodo. Chainsaw Man pulls off the high paced plot that demon slayer attempted to havv better due to the nature of the characters and how interestingly theyre written. Comparing this to Dorededodo due to the gritty weirdness and mysterious element. Overall I would say that Chainsaw man is definitely worth the watch, its something different and its so well animated.

High hopes but they didnt meet expectations
Story 4:
I started this series after hearing raving reviews and watching several clips online of the fight scenes and honestly im so disappointed. The first two episodes are amazing and pulls you into the world and introduces us to the characters. The episodes to follow are filled with plot holes and seemingly irrelevant moments that are supposed to be touching/funny/character building but just are annoying as heck. You can definitely see the potential in the story and in the characters but it just wasn't well written. they seem to care way more about random fan service and
...
bad jokes then randomly throwing the plot in. Dont get me wrong, they have some gems and some moments where i did genuinely have to pause because i was laughing too hard, but they were sparse. Its just such a shame because the characters have really amazing powers and the backstories are also really decent. I continued on for several episodes because i realized that the author of Fire Force is the same author of Soul Eater. I commend them for choosing to do this story and deviating from this world that they had curated in soul eater with the gothic undertones, its just a shame that theres so much fan service that you cant even ignore because the soul purpose of those characters are meant only for fan service. at least in soul eater those fan servicy characters can hold their own and actually serve another purpose other than fan service. I just cant get over how cool the concept of the story is and how interesting some of the backstories are and how cool the characters and the different "evil" guys are. But i mean i guess you can say that soul eater feels the same way? seemingly random episodes, plot holes up the cazoot, and random introduction of characters.
Art 8:
honestly the art and animation of this show was the highlight for me. The fight scenes have so many details and are honestly so captivating. the characters are really amazing, but then again im a huge fan of this art style because i grew up watching soul eater, it was one of my first animes. I also love the attention to details and even though the author strayed from the gothicness of soul eater and went for a more normalized setting you can still find gems of their clear style throughout the anime. honestly its just a shame that the plot and jokes were so poorly written
Sound 7
i just loved the opening to be honest
characters 3:
just pure character tropes one after another, all the really interesting charatcers arent even the main characters. whilst they all had pretty decent and differenting traits most of the main characters were resigned to follow on their own character tropes being shallow and one dimensional
enjoyment 4:
i probably wouldve enjoyed it more if there werent jarring and clear plot holes and too much fanservice i also think what did it for me is the potential of the story and characters, thats what really did it for me, it began to hurt watching it due to how better it couldve been

first thought after watching this anime? somehow a mix between Soul Eater + Ouran Highschool host club (the humor and vibe) + kamisama kiss. lighthearted, funny, but eluding to a more in depth and personal experience in the future Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun is an anime to consider watching for all those interested in sugary goth and scary stories
story 7
honestly im not sure if this is a slice of life anime or not but it sure does feel like one. There isn't much plot to go off of, we get to follow nene as she navigates the troubles of being an assistant to a
...
ghost boy Hanako kun. its slow to build but if you dont mind that then its interesting enough and funny enough to definitely watch. its not incredibly deep either but does definitely have some elements dispersed throughout the episodes, Im expecting that (if there are future season) it will become more serious and more "deep". Part of the reason why i specifically liked this anime was actually because there wasnt really an apparent plot, not much was explained and most plot point were simply casually explained to keep the audience intrigued and introduce to the world. That being said i wish that there was just a smidge more for us to have, even more episodes in this season would have been rad.
Art 9:
omg im completely in love with this artstyle I dont even know how to explain it. It honestly plays to the sugary gothic aesthetic that i love. A little spooky but also extremely cute. the colors and all the tiny details of this anime are so well produced and thought of making it a joyful experience even if the plot was something to be desired. It was reminiscent of older anime styles but in a modern way i guess? But honestly slightly gothic but extremely vibrant colors and really adorable character design, i cant think f a singular anime that i have watched that has the same aesthetic and does it well.
sound 10:
honestly i usually dont pay attention to the background soundtrack or extra noises when watching an anime, in fact i typically watch the op once and then skip it the rest of the time. But wow. I was at lot for words the first time i watched the op. Honestly such a good freaking song and just amazing. also usually the animes i watch have like three tracks that they play at certain moments, the track when someone does something funny, the track when things are serious and then the track when things are sad, not really adding too much to the scene. This anime does it so much different the additional background soundtrack is gorgeous imo. the cute gothy undertones, playfull yet spooky just honestly adds so much to the anime
character 7
I mean I dont have too much to say about the characters. They kinda were a little bit tropey in my own opinion. you have the main lad Hanako-kun who's just misunderstood and has a troubled past. Then there Nene, who is completely adorable, but sorta spacey and gets to be a damsel in distress every episode. Im not complaining though because she does actually have her own character other than that. Shes a teenager always lusting for love and daydreaming of princes to whisk her away then meeting harsh realities. Honestly I relate to some of the things she was doing. That being said she makes damsel in distress a relatable and refreshing role because honestly how is she supposed to survive in a world where there apparations and shes a human?
Koa - kun.... honestly HES SO CUTE i have so much love for this little bean boy and I think he has great potential to become an even greater character, we already have seen his slight progression from wanting to exorcise every single aparation to prove himself to his older brother and family to being open minded about why and how these aparations are. that being said he does fulfill the specific role of "need to prove himself" and his character could have been always there annoying and trying to exorcise hanako-kun but instead he becomes a friend of the two helping out and even becoming friends with mitsubi ( i think thats how you spell his name)
enjoyment 8
HOnestly this fulfilled a niche part of my brain somehow being crazily adorbale and also spooky with gothic elements. i cant get over the fact that it just feels like a gothic slice of life anime for me though. BEcause honestly thats how i viewed it when watching it.
overall 8
i would definitely recommend this anime to anyone i just hope that it gets a second season because i originally started reading the manga and i will continue it on but wow did they do a good job with the soundtrack and the animation

honestly i cannot stop laughing when watching this show ive only watched 9 episodes so far
story 8:
As far as a sports anime goes i think its interesting where the plot and story is going. gives us watchers something else to focus on as well. I am not sure if it was meant to be this funny, but the over the top ridiculousness makes me cackle. Its just amazing the plot and premise is wild as well and if you can get over how ridiculous the plot is then omg its amazing.
art 8:
i love the art style because bright and colorful and i
...
think the character styles are unique and pretty as well. they spent a lot of time animating the skating bits but they didnt let the other parts fall flat like other sports animes typically do
sound 9
honesly love love love the sound tracks and all the music included i think they did a wonderful job
character 6
this is where they fall flat. insert sports anime character trope here. Like i think that they attempted to do something different with the characters and it shows but they still have reiki ( a skater who has been skating a really long time) who isnt up to par with his bestie "snow" (someone who has been snowboarding their whole lives and picked up skating a few months ago) who has natural talent and is leaving reiki back in his dust. but hopefully reiki will have another haracter trope moment and realise his worth and start to become better at skating
enjoyment 10
honestly i loved it. as ridiculous as it is it was just a blast to wath and made me super happy. Typically sports animes leave me sad and annoyed rather than what i felt. it was honestly refreshing as cringy as someparts were and as hilarious the plot points are.

*sigh* waste my time once again didnt i?
story 5:
honestly from the beginning i was intrigued and had such high hopes because its an interesting concept. You almost die and you get sent to this room where you then have to battle aliens? like wow really rad, fun time this is going to include a lot of critical analysis and battle strategies with powerful characters who become more powerful. Wrong. The concept is amazing and really interesting but just nt at all well executed, it seems similar to the Liar Game or that kdrama called Alice in borderland but unfortunately didnt live up to the
...
same potential as the other two did. Its just filled with plot holes which honestly you can forgive once in a while, i mean its hard to keep track of what your writing because you gotta make sure sex, boobs, and overall nudity is involved because those are so important to the plot right? Like oh my god the amount of nudity specifically from the female characters only made me incredibly uncomfortable, specially all the panels where they had sex. Like isnt kurono supposed to be 16, im sorry but im just not into seeing so much unecessary nudity randomly when im reading an alien/horror/action manga. If you can get past that, it doesnt change the fact of the mysoginistic undertones throughout the whole novel. the whole purpose of the female characters were for fan service and be damsels in distress who have no thoughts except, "wow this guy i just met five seconds ago saved me and now im in love with him and will die for him even though i have so much in the real world at stake". dont get me wrong not everyone can be a superhero and be able to fight aliens BUT AN OLD MAN CAN SURVIVE BUT A CHICK WHO STUDIES MARTIAL ARTS CANT???? honestly it had so much potential and actually interesting plot arcs that just went no where and honestly is comical when you think about it. like you introduce vampires and they get no backstory nothing except for kill this one kid? like aight alright dont bring em back up every again.
art 7
honestly the art and the gore is amazing as much as i hate some parts i will give credit where credit is due
character 4
there is one good character and that is MUSCLE MAN
thats all

oh my god what a waste of time, if im being quiet honest.i started this manga out with high hopes after hearing raving reviews and seeing that MAPPA would be making the anime adaptation. Im left with a feeling of annoyance, emptiness and what was the point of spending all that time on it?
story: 6
to be fair i started to read it and really get into it because i thought the idea of chainsaw man was quiet interesting. honestly it was captivating. but slowly and surly there were just more and more plot holes that kept reoccuring. it just started to feel really lazy,
...
which is sad because the idea of it was really cool if im being honest.
Art 7
honestly asides from the lack of creativity for faces i do have to say there were some amazingly in depth panels and character disigns for the demons were also quiet enjoyable. so despite everything else i would have to give credit where credit is due. the fighting panels were so graphically detailed, if you don't care about plot, or lack thereof, or likeable characters then i would definitely suggest this manga
characters 4
theres so much that i have problems with that it literally pained me to the point of writting a review. Don't get me wrong the main character, wow annoying as all hell, but isnt that the typical case for action mangas? the main character being op and annoying for no reason whatsoever? and dont get me wrong i thought it was quirky to make his main goal to be just enjoying his life and getting a girlfriend but holy fuck was there any character development other than him not wanting to sleep with power?? honestly looking back on it what characters actually contributed anything to the plot and character development other than to serve as fan service, be killed in a gory fashion? like i legitimately cannot explain a singular thing that happened at all durong this manga except for the fact there are demons and he becomes friends with one and merges to become CHAINSAW MAN. like i had such high hopes for this manga but the lack of plot, the unexplained plot holes, the lack of character depth and development just left me with a sour taste in my mouth and annoyed. it honestly felt as if the author gave up halfway after getting too much input and being forced to go a certain direction with the plot that he didnt agree with so he just gave up completely. And dont get me wrong not every manga has to have 500 chapters, or whatever but story telling goes a long way. I had problems with demon slayer beign so short and what i felt, rushed, but in comparison to this, it was a peice of artwork, so majestically written and the story so well told it didnt matter that we didnt get every single detail. But in chainsaw man , this was the downfall. Like if youre gunna hint at the fact that hes some all powerful demon then freaking explain it??? don't just pretend it never happened and that life is peachy keen since he defeated some other demon that had no explanation for existing other than "awww boohoo, sad".
honestly read it for the gore and a few funny quips here and there, but immature and seriously lacking in story telling and basically everything else
