**There will be a few minor spoilers regarding the progression of the story in this review, and some minor spoilers for about midway through as well.
First off, unlike what I've heard from a lot of other members of the SDS fanbase I actually really enjoyed both the first and second seasons, the last season ended with Meliodas crying next to Elizabeth in fear that he would return to his old self, which unfortunately gave me some hope for this season taking an interesting turn.
First I'm going to mention the story and then I'll get into the animation cause I feel they should be kept separate.
Now
...
episode 1 is basically filler which I thought was okay since at least the rest of the season can't be too bad right? Unfortunately right after we get put into this 6 episode almost flashback sequence that could have been condensed into about two episodes. After sitting through that they then tease us the whole thing about how the king had a vision where "The Seven Deadly Sins will reunite" and then right after they reunite Gowther runs off and we get another flashback episode, again it was necessary for the plot, but I was less tolerant of it after the previous 6 episodes. Finally, midway through the season we get back to Meliodas and the group where we get a whole Elizabeth backstory that seems to come out of nowhere. In addition to that, the whole Meliodas losing control thing seems to come out of nowhere, like I guess he was upset about Elizabeth but that wasn't really shown well and he seemed fine when he was in the darkness. To avoid major spoilers the last thing I'll mention is the whole Gilthunder thing that was really random and seemed unnatural in the progression of the story, but, again, was needed for the plot but not executed well.
I will mention that this season wasn't all bad- I actually quite enjoyed seeing a different side of Meliodas later in the season, and I thought the banter between him and his brothers was entertaining to watch.
Next, I'll talk about the animation cause it needs to be talked about.
Now I'm personally against censorship, but I know Japan has some strict censorship laws that are hard to avoid sometimes so I try not to hate on that too much. I knew this season would be riddled with it the second I saw blurred out Meliodas in the first recap. However, someone had the bright idea to make the blood white, first off it was weird because it would be white in one shot and red in the next, and secondly, I might have a dirty mind but I absolutely cannot ignore what the white blood kind of looks like. Overall based on what everyone was saying I didn't think the animation was as bad as I thought it would be, sure Meliodas's legs were godawful, and some of the blank faces looked a little odd but I could tolerate it personally.
