Yanderes never fail to entertain.

I'm not gonna lie, I've been waiting for a good yandere story since Mirai Nikki; they always add psychological elements and make for a relatively interesting story. Of course, you can't compare these two shows just due to one character. Both have their strengths and weaknesses and differences in tone and story. But, Happy Sugar Life has a very different psychological issue to deal with: pedophilia.

Probably the one thing that stood out to me with this was that there were no happy endings, ironically, given the title. In most shows there is at least one final option or destination that ... is achievable for the protagonist. In Shio's case, however, there is almost no happy ending (unless you side with Satou and are okay with pedophilia in fiction). Either she ends up with a pedophile (who is clearly grooming her), ends up with a grosser pedophile (who's so unlikeable I skipped almost every scene with him), or her family (where she was abused and abandoned).

Because of this lack of a happy end, I felt a strong sense of tension throughout the show. I knew that this wasn't going to end well, the question was just "how."

I wouldn't recommend this show if you're looking for a serious psychological thriller or a yandere-themed haunt. But, if you're looking for that fun blend of horror and cuteness, I'd say that this is the show for you.

I read this manga on a sick day and it was so sweet!

The characters are slightly stereotypical; the innocent and cute protagonist, the cold-hearted love interest, the comic relief, etc. However, the formula definitely works here. It is probably one of the shoujo-iest shoujo manga I've read in a long time, and I'm happy with that.

The story is also slightly formulaic, with a "forbidden" romance blooming between a demon and a human. Yet, I love the way that the premise not-so-subtly creates rifts between the characters in a natural way.

It was such an adorable love story that just shows that love will always ... win, even if it appears to disappear.

I definitely recommend for anyone who wants a sweet and fluffy read, that is good for any rainy day.

I found this manga by chance while scrolling through the "Romance" tag on a manga site.

I just spent the past 2 hours reading the entire series.

I have been in tears now for 20 minutes.

The story appears rather simple: boy meets girl, boy has a fatal illness and will die within a year. Despite the seemingly plain premise, what the story does so well, is making you fall in love with the characters.

While every character starts out plain or stereotypical, the depth of every one of them is simply so encapturing. Not only do they keep you turning the page, but they also ... give the heartwarming story a fresh breath of life (no pun intended).

This story will force you to fall in love with a parrot faster than you can blink.

Not only the characters, but the story itself has a life of its own. It's really a journey as it takes you through the beauty and fragility of life and how life should always have a meaning.

It'll break your heart for different reasons than you expected, but it will also warm your heart for those same reasons.

Honestly, one of the best reads I've had in a long time.

I definitely recommend if you're tired of the stereotypical shoujo character tropes and are sturdy enough for an emotional rollercoaster :).

When I was younger and I didn't know what hentai or lolicon was, I thought this was super lit. Now I'm older and I was completely appalled.

It wasn't just the lolicon, (if you're into that, I guess) but it's the abuse, the manipulation and the pure disgust that I draw from like, all of the characters.

Shiren: Massive pedophile, but that's not his biggest problem. He constantly abuses Shinju, both sexually and mentally. He calls her a mannequinn, literally just because he's a jerk. Not to mention, not throughout the whole story, he never once tells her how he truly feels, which is pedophilia, but ... that's not the point. He's also crazy selfish and takes out his anger on Shinju when things happen to her that are directly his fault.

Every other character in the story (Expect Yuuji, I guess): They just either want to exploit Shinju or want to rape her. Mostly rape her.

Shinju: She's just a kid man. She needs to go to school, or call the cops. Probably both.

Bottom Line:
This is a perfect example of why Law and Order SVU is successful. Also, the police force in this timeline are horrible.

I don't know if it's just that I'm actually too stupid to understand the plot, but this manga was so very boring and not worth the $23 I spent on it.

The initial plot, not too shabby. It starts off with the "first love" scenario that naturally ends in heartbreak. Then that plot is never addressed again. We find out that the main character never recovered from that heartbreak for like 15 years and we're even introduced to another character that is attracted to him for like 1 chapter and then never again. It just demonstrated heartbreak that lasted and we're shown the development ... of his other relationship that (shockingly) ends in failure.

It was just a lot of things happening with very slow climaxes and weak resolutions.

But, one of the best parts of the manga was near the end of the manga, where you see the 2 main characters cross paths, without recognizing each other despite the heavy impact that they both had on each other's lives. Honestly, they could've gotten rid of the two side-plots revolving the main character and made it a short story that simply resolved there with a realisation that he really must move on from the past.

I don't know, if you're into I suppose "deeper" plots and minimal story action check it out.

I personally absolutely loved this movie. But, I believe that I have a bias. This entire movie was based off of the events that took place in the song "Confession Rehearsal", by HoneyWorks, which can be heard in the background of the buildup to the finale. (There were other subplots that were based off of other songs such as "Solution to Jealousy", "Confession Rival Declaration", or Inokori Sensei, all written and performed by HoneyWorks) Because I knew the plots and characters so well I think I was more blown away by the execution, which was GORGEOUS!! I know it's not a very original plot, nor ... characters, but I would definitely listen to the songs that I mentioned and others, HoneyWorks is an amazing group and they 100% percent deserved this lovely movie based off of their work.
