If you're reading this you are most likely familiar with shows in the sci-fi / romance / harem genre like IS: Infinite Stratos, Radukai Kishi no Cavalry, or Date A Live. This show is literally just a cut and paste of those shows (and it doesn't cut the good bits out either). The plot is incredibly predictable and the I wasn't surprised at all, or really had much of a reason to keep watching because it was so bland. To be honest, if you're looking for a show that is better than this, but fairly similar in content, I'd recommend IS: Infinite Stratos because it's
...
basically the same as this show apart from it's done better in almost all aspects.
The story was pretty mediocre in my opinion, it really didn't stick out from all of the other anime in this genre and the plot is really generic. Hero with cool powers, some girls who are relatively uninteresting and not important, and a group of bad guys which have a grudge.
The thing is, this show looked promising in the early episodes, it had a relatively interesting concept and if it was executed correctly, it would have been a fairly decent show. However the lack of plot development and some useless romance episodes just made the main story feel tacked on. Hell, you don't even get to see the main villain properly up until episode 11, before then they are pretty much not mentioned apart from the odd name.
The art was fairly decent, there was not much to complain about but it didn't stand out much from other shows. The fight scenes were pretty good and drawn nicely but there wasn't many of them and instead just some mindless harem crap for most of the time.
The sound was also pretty good, most of the time I didn't really notice the background music or the music during fights but the OP and EP were fairly decent.
The characters also were pretty lacklustre. The protagonist just seems like the generic hero you've seen in about every other harem / sci-fi show and he is quite bland. The female characters are also generic, you've got the main girl, the rich powerful girl and the idol, generic characters with pretty minimal development during the show. Even the 'main' girl is left in the shadow a bit and you don't really learn much about her. The plot leaves you guessing on characters for the most part and it really should have done a better job at character development.
The show was a little bit boring most of the time and there wasn't really much plot development so I didn't really enjoy this show much. Most shows in this genre rely on fanservice to make up for their lacklustre plot and characters but this show didn't have much of it either.
Overall, i'd give it a 6/10 purely because it's not a terrible show, but it sure as hell can be a boring one. Shows like the first season of IS: Infinite Stratos just seem to be really similar to this show plot-wise but also much better executed and a lot more interesting.

To be honest, this show really isn't as bad as people say it is. It's a unique premise rarely seen in the East due to the fact that they haven't really jumped on the zombie apocalypse bandwagon yet. It's a pretty good show to be honest.
Story - 7
The story isn't bad. The concept of a group of highschool teenagers surviving a zombie apocalypse got me pumped, because when I first read the premise of this show, it really does sound like an interesting show. It did let me down a little bit though as I watched. There was an over-use of fanservice which just made
...
it irritating to watch at some points and some of the jokes in the English dub were just plain awful. This series relies on fanservice where it lacks plot development, which I find is an increasing trend nowadays and needs to stop.
The story could go a lot deeper into the lives of these people during the apocalypse but for some reason they just add a lot of fighting scenes and boob shots instead of develop the plot some more. However, I gave it a relatively high rating because this premise is quite rare in Eastern anime with not many shows being based around a zombie apocalypse, the unique twist of a highschool setting makes it interesting to watch and see how so called 'regular' highschool teens deal with a pandemic.
Art - 8
The art is fairly good, especially for 2010 standards. The characters seem to be well-drawn and so was the fanservice (even though i don't really like it). The zombies looked pretty scary and all looked different so you can tell the art team paid attention to detail with the zombies. The fight scenes and the blood were drawn pretty well too. It was nice overall, nothing amazingly stunning though, and I can't really complain about anything either.
Sound - 7
I had no problem really with the OP and EP, they both sounded cool and the action music was pretty nice. However the sound really shined a lot in the fight scenes in the show. There wasn't too much of it shown, but when it was, there was a pretty big impact and it made it feel awesome. Unfortunately, some parts of the show feel pretty blank at some points because of lack of music, and even if they just put a quiet piece of background music there, it would make it a whole lot better.
Character - 6
The characters were really undeveloped to be honest (quite unlike the breasts in the show). There is the stereotypical idiot, the bitch, the 'elder sister' kind of leader and the arrogant girl the main character likes. The only really interesting and innovative character is Kohata who appears to be a wimp and fat otaku but is actually a gun beast. He really gets to shine in the apocalypse and show his true self, and I found that pretty neat. Otherwise, the show relies on boobs over character development and personality, and that isn't a really good thing.
Over time, you never really see the characters develop like you would in traditional shows. In some shows, even shows like this, you see characters develop and mature a lot. If you were to show me a clip of Takashi from episode 1 and then Takashi from episode 12, quite frankly I wouldn't be able to tell any difference because the character just feel the exact same over the whole course of the show.
Overall - 7
To be honest, I did quite enjoy this show. It wasn't too bad if you manage to ignore the fanservice (hard thing to do) and if you manage to look past it, it definitely can be quite enjoying to watch sometimes. The fight scenes are usually pretty good and the characters are still watchable, even if they aren't perfect.
This is definitely the best zombie apocalypse anime out there, it does have a lot of flaws, but if you manage to overlook these it definitely is a pretty good show to watch and personally I quite enjoyed it.

This show really is a God among humans to be honest, compared to a lot of the shows now it's just amazing. It's a rare show that only really pops up every few years or so which just blows all the other romance/comedy anime out of the water. The only other show which I think has reduced me to tears like this is Clannad. Considering I'm a 23 year old muscular male and I cried my eyes out in laughter and in sadness really shows that this is a great show. Considering this is the first time I've ever cried to an animated show.

The story really isn't something too special, a high school setting like most other romcom series nowadays. However, the unique twist where the main characters don't like each other and strive to help each other is a really unique twist which makes the story interesting and quite unpredictable at moments. It always keeps you wanting to watch the next 2 or 3 episodes because you just want to know more about the story.
The only real issue with the story is that the ending isn't quite as good as the rest of the show and it feels like there is a few episodes which were stuck in there as filler almost (don't quote me, i haven't read the manga or the light novel) but these are quite easy to overlook as the rest of the show makes up for it, a lot of the themes seem quite unique and it is definitely a fun experience.
Art - 8
Considering this show was aired in 2009 the art was great, to be honest I think it could still hold its own against medium-budget shows today. The art seems to get progressively better as the series increases. The only issue really is some of the characters can look quite boring or similar. For example, a character Ami is basically identical to the student council president and it confused me a little bit. The art is fine though, but it isn't really the reason why people watch this show, but it is very nice nevertheless.
Sound - 8
The opening and closing themes are really quite something, catchy and good to listen to. Even though the opening song was changed half way through the season, it was still a good song to listen to. The reason why it's rated so high is because of the music in the show. It has really strong and emotional pieces which can honestly make you tear up at emotional times in the show. During the final episodes is where this really shined and it can honestly make anyone shed a tear.
I've watched both the sub and dub, and I have to say the sub is better, but if you like dubbed anime, you won't be disappointed. The characters seem to feel slightly more real in the sub and Taiga's voice actress is phenomenal. The dub version is also great too, but if you want a better experience i'd recommend the subbed version.
Characters - 10
This is where this show really shined. The cast is minimal and sometimes this is a good thing. The show really only builds up on 5 characters and a few more in the latter episodes but it mainly focuses on the 5 mains. All of the characters are really well developed on and show deep flaws to them as well, which makes the characters seem like people rather than just characters. You can actually sympathize and understand the situations they are in because of this and it makes the experience a whole lot more emotional and great.
The characters aren't really defined by a certain archetype apart from maybe Taiga who is the quite standard tsundere. The fact that they don't really fall into standard anime archetypes means it's a whole lot more enjoyable as a lot of the characters aren't predictable and you really need to watch to understand their motives and real feelings.
Even though Taiga is the run-of-the-mill tsundere she really doesn't feel like it later on into the series. Usually tsunderes can be quite irritating after a while as its the same old stuff, but Taiga gets more pleasant to watch over time as you can really see her develop into a great remember-able and understandable character and really understand that she just wants to make people happy. This is where it really shines.
Enjoyment - 10
As I said, this show really is a God among humans and it was so enjoyable to me. If if you don't enjoy the romance genre this show will blow you away still as it isn't the run-of-the-mill romance. It has much more to it, and it is so funny sometimes and it is so sad at other times, it will really make you cry in all different spectrums.
Overall - 9
I have to say, I think this is definitely one of the best anime I have seen, possibly on par with Seto no Hanayome (which is hilarious btw).
Even if you like the genre just a little bit, I really recommend trying this show out, compared to the crap that is made a lot now this really blows it all out of the water and it is such a good show to watch. The rewatch value isn't amazingly high as if you know the eventual ending then it kind of spoils it for you, but so far I have watched it 3 times and I have loved it even more every time since.
