I'd say the two are somewhat similar in the sense that they're both coming of age dramas that involve the main characters facing the burdens of their past traumas and overcoming them. Both stories are extremely emotionally heavy at times. Both series take slightly different approaches, to the detriment of neither. I'd say ef leads more towards a melodramatic approach while Fruits Basket takes a more realistic approach. ef also isn't as seamless as Fruits Basket in my opinion but in terms of direction, I'd say ef is a lot better in that regard, Shaft gets really ambitious with their visuals at times. I'd recommend watching both.

If you liked the antagonist from this movie, Fujino Asagami, then you’ll like the Heaven’s Feel route from Fate/stay night in particular! The main heroine from Heaven’s Feel, Sakura Matou, is just a recycled version of Fujino, though slightly less superficial. So if you like Fujino you might like Sakura!

- Both are partially coming of age narratives where the protagonist grows to find themselves an identity. - Both tackle this concept of the ‘rose coloured life’ and the protagonists journey to discover it. - Both have superb direction and visual story telling. - Both are very dialogue heavy. That’s pretty much where the similarities end though, these shows are mostly distinct from each other and offer very different perspectives on the ‘rose coloured life’. Hyouka takes place in a high-school setting whilst The Tatami Galaxy takes place in a college setting.
