Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru is a slice-of-life mystery show based off of a light novel by the same name. It is an episodic series showcasing individual smaller mysteries that eventually led into one bigger mystery, sort of. With all of the hype that I initially heard about the light novel, I had high hopes for this show and was unfortunately disappointed.
Story: 5/10
I was really looking for this show to be next great mystery anime but at the end, I found myself feeling let down. The story starts off with Sakurako-san an Osteologist whose job and life passion is finding
...
and reassembling the bones of diseased animals and yes, humans. Each show follows a similar pattern. Sakurako and her young assistant Shoutaoru, find themselves in a circumstance where they find bones of the diseased which then opens up a mystery that Sakurako must solve. The whole show carries on this way with each episode, sometimes two episodes, focusing on a single mystery which is then resolved. Wash, rinse, repeat. For those who have seen the anime "Gosick" it follows a similar pattern to that show. I was really hoping that this show would delve into one major mystery the would develop over the course of the show and it didn't. If you're looking for a mystery that's going to keep you at the edge of your seat, this isn't it. The mysteries were mediocre at best, they never really went anywhere and they weren't all that exciting. The first 3 episodes were promising, but things went downhill from there. Towards the end of the show the overlying mystery that connects all the smaller ones together finally comes into play, but it's rushed and never really comes to a full conclusion. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that overall the story was relatively underwhelming. There wasn't anything that made the show exceptionally good, but there wasn't anything that made it exceptionally bad either. It stands on middle ground. If anything I'm hoping for a second season to tie up the loose ends and questions that this show left me with.
Art & Animation: 8/10
The animation in this show was the only factor that in my opinion that really stood out and was above average. The first thing I noticed upon watching the first episode was the beautiful use of color and general art style. So it was a solid job well done in that aspect.
Sound: 5/10
The soundtrack was just average. Not much to say about it, there was nothing outstanding about it but it wasn't bad by any means.
Characters: 5/10
Ugh the characters were one of the biggest disappointments. Sakurako herself had the potential to be extremely interesting. I mean, her hobby is digging up bones and figuring out mysteries for heavens sake! But we never really learn that much about her. We get a tiny info dump towards the end about her past and how she met Shoutarou but never enough for me to say, "I know this character." Speaking of Shoutarou he fell into the category of being the protagonist that was absolutely useless. We get practically no character development with him. He doesn't even really serve a purpose to the plot. And quite frankly, 9 times out of 10 he's kind of just in the way. Everything is solved by Sakurako and he just kind of hangs there along for the ride. He does have his own little shining moment at the end but for a main character, he should have had more of an important roll than he did. As for the rest of the characters, none of them were important enough for me to even talk about them. They were all one dimensional and never went anywhere. It really was a shame too because they had some good material but didn't really use it well.
Enjoyment 6/10
Did I enjoy this anime? Yes, and no. As a whole I found the show entertaining enough to keep me engaged in the show. Some were better than others and some were pretty darn boring. But it kept my attention enough that made me want to at least see it through to the end.
So overall I give this show a 6/10. It was overall just an average run of the mill show. It wasn't bad or good. It was kind of just there. I think the show had great bones that the creators simply failed to use properly and to their full extent. The ending was left wide open for a second season and if they did make one I'd probably give it another chance. Definitely give this show a try. It's average but it still has a little something that does keep it interesting enough to watch.

This is going to be short and sweet because there's really not that much material to review with Diabolik Lovers.
For those who have seen season 1: If you're looking for an improved story line and an actual plot, you aren't going to find it here. More Blood is just as pointless as season 1. So if you didn't like the first season you probably won't like this one either. Don't waste your time unless you're only watching it to see the pretty boys.
For those who haven't seen season 1: If you're looking for some great vampire romance series that has some deep meaning and plot,
...
this isn't going to deliver. But if you're just looking for a guilty pleasure anime to watch with some very attractive boys (10 to be exact) then this is great. I suggest watching the first season before this one though the plots (or lack there of) don't really connect on a level where you'd absolutely need to see the first season.
So overall Diabolik Lovers: More Blood is definitely just a guilty pleasure anime and nothing more. The story doesn't go anywhere. At least in season 1 the pitiful plot was wrapped up properly. In MB we don't even really know what the plot is until the second to last episode. And then when it finally is revealed the season ends completely inconclusively. They left it wide open for a third season which I have no doubt they'll make. There is little to no character development at all. Maybe they could do better with that if the shows were longer than 15 minutes. The good points for this anime is the art style is lovely and the music is superb. But other than that Diabolik Lovers: More Blood is pretty one dimensional and not worth the time if you're looking for something with a complex plot and deeper meaning.

So I first decided to watch this show based off a recommendation from a Youtuber and I'm really glad I decided to give it a go. If you're looking for a true mystery anime this is the one to try.
Story: (9/10) The story was one of the things that impressed me the most about this anime. It starts out with Nishinosono Moe and her professor Saikawa Souhei who are both fans of the work of Dr. Magata Shiki, a scientist who has been living in complete isolation on an island for 15 years. Not only is she all alone but she ultimately hasn't left
...
her room let alone the laboratory she's been living in. Moe and Souhei decide that they want to go to meet Dr. Shiki in person but when they arrive they encounter more than one murder.
At first when watching this show, I was actually pretty bored. You would think, "Wow they walk into a murder scene, must be pretty intense!" But the first few episodes are super talky, for lack of a better turn and I found myself fighting to keep my attention on it. I actually briefly considered dropping the show, but something told me I should stick it out, and boy am I glad I did.
One of the best things about this show is its pacing. Of the mystery anime I've seen, many of them take you on a wild goose chase of crazy outlandish mysteries that really don't even have anything to do with the main plot. Not Perfect Insider. Even though the show starts out slow the build up to the resolution of the mystery is handled excellently. It reveals little pieces of information episode by episode and avoids the all too common flood of information squeezed into the last few episodes, which I absolutely loved. Other than the pacing the story itself is just darn good. Just when you think you know what's going on, it twists in ways that you weren't expecting. Once the ball gets rolling, Perfect Insider keeps the viewer on their toes and makes them think throughout the whole series. The only thing that keeps me from giving the story a 10/10 is the fact that it got a little confusing in parts and I wished for a little bit more explanation. But overall an excellent story.
Art 9/10 The art and animation style in Perfect Insider was very unique! The character designs weren't you're typical kawaii, big eyed stereotypical anime characters. The people were designed more realistically than a lot that I've seen. The colors in this show were sometimes a bit bland but it fit the overall serious tone of the show, so I don't feel that it took away from anything.
Sound: 10/10 I'm giving this a perfect 10 because I really liked the opening and ending songs, especially the opening. As far as the soundtrack, it really fit the serious and dark tone that was woven throughout the story.
Characters: 8/10 The characters in Perfect Insider were fairly well developed. But I wished for a little more on the two lead characters that I just didn't get. I wanted to know more about what made them tick, how they got to where they were. That being said we do get a bit of background on them towards the end which is great. As far as how likable they are it's 50/50. I sometimes liked them and sometimes they got on my nerves. I guess it just depends on what they were doing at the time. The reason I gave this category an 8 instead of a bit lower though was because of one character and that was Dr. Magata Shiki. She is probably one of the most brilliant characters I've seen written. You go into this series knowing that she's a genius but genius doesn't even being to cover it. I can't say much more than that without giving away major plot points, but you'll have to take my word on it. She's a well thought out character and the reason the plot is so great.
Overall Enjoyment: 8/10 I've pretty much covered in the other sections why I enjoyed this anime. I love something that keeps me guessing what's going to happen next. Not only guess but actually care about the ending. As also previously stated, the only reason that this isn't ranked a little higher is because this show could be really confusing at times especially if you aren't paying super close attention.
Overall 7/10 Even though my individual category scores are higher, I still give Perfect Insider a 7. This is only simply because while every thing I said above is true, it's probably not a show that I would buy on DVD or watch again other than maybe to get some clarification. That being said, I believe that Perfect Insider is very impressive for its mystery genre which can sometimes fall flat. Definitely give this one a shot.
I would just like to add as a disclaimer that I am in no way any sort of anime expert. I just like to add my opinion on shows I've watched :)

Summary: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (FMAB) takes place in a world where alchemy is real and everyone seems to be seeking immortality. When brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric try to use alchemy to bring back their mother who suddenly passed away, everything goes wrong. Ed loses his right arm and left leg. Al loses his entire body. The story then follows the two on a quest to get their bodies back while also trying to save their nation from turmoil.
Story: 10/10 The story line for FMAB is phenominal in my opinion. I have never watched the original series but this series closely follows the manga
...
unlike it's predecessor. As a person who often falls asleep when watching TV, even with shows I'm interested in, this one kept me awake and completely enthralled. I never felt bored during an episode. Each one is important for the overall plot. Quite oftten I find beginnings of anime to be hard to get into and they start off slow. FMAB was not like that. I was hooked right away after one episode. The way the story is told makes you want to find out what's going to happen next. It's hard for me to properly say exactly how the story is amazing, it just it.
Art/Animation: 9/10 Overall the animation is also spot on. It can be simple yet also have major detail where it's needed. The animators didn't cut corners with this show. It was solid job well done.
Sound/Music: 8/10 This is score slightly lower than the rest only because I wasn'y totally crazy with some of the opening themes. But the music in the show was fantastic. It brought emotion to parts that otherwise wouldn't be as exciting. For example, towards the end, someone is slowly walking towards a door and because the viewer knows what's on the other side of the door, the music brings all that much more emotion to the situation.
Characters: 10/10 One of the very best parts about FMAB for me was the characters for several reasons. One would be that there was no single character that didn't serve some sort of purpose. Side characters were used brilliantly and conncected the story together in ways that just worked so well. Even people that you thought were a once and done single episode character, would come back later in the series and be super important. The other reason the characters were so brilliant was because they were just well written. There wasn't one character I didn't like. Of course the villians weren't always likeable as people but they were just great villains. For a majority of the story you could easily hate them but somehow get attatched to them And even when SPOILER some of them die I felt myself feeling sorry for them even though they had been bad the entire time. And as for the good characters, there was something I liked about all of them and I just loved how they all worked together even when they sometimes didn't like each other. It was just a wonderful cast of characters.
Overall enjoyment: 10/10 There really isn't anything else to say other than that I strongly recommend you try this series. If you aren't familiar with the FMA universe this is a good place to start. While I haven't seen the original series, I've heard from various other people that this is much better than the orginal series. If you have seen the original series you'd probably want to try this as well because it can only get better. As far as dub vs sub I watched the dub so I really can't say anything about the subbed version. But I usually am someone who watches subbed and I usually can't stand dubs. But this one was fantastic and Funimation did a great job. So if you feel in the mood for a dub it's worthwhile. And if you like to stick with subs, then I'm sure that's going to be great as well.

Story: 4/10 *May Contain Spoilers*
Summary: Diabolik Lovers takes place in a creepy old castle in the middle of nowhere. The main character is a young girl named Yui whose father just drops her off to live in this mysterious castle. Upon her arrival, she finds out that she will be living with six blood lusting vampires.
Okay where do I start with this story? It definitely isn’t for everyone. The whole thing starts off entirely predictable. 6 good looking vampires all want to drink from our female heroine. And being your typical female anime character, she lets them. Pretty much the entire first 6-8 episodes (there
...
are only 12) is just her wandering around this castle running into these guys and them demanding that she let them suck her blood. That’s it. They are cruel and nasty to her but after days of living in this place, Yui continues to let them physically and emotionally abuse her. It isn’t until nearly the very end when you actually get told what why she’s there or what’s actually going on. (I won’t spoil that for anyone who chooses to watch). The story could have been made better but they just didn’t develop it enough.
Characters: 3/10
Okay, the characters are one of the more pathetic things about this anime. First I’ll start with Yui. Like I said previously, she’s in this house, she clearly doesn’t like the fact that these vampires are abusing her but she keeps letting it happen. For heaven’s sake one of them even gives her the opportunity to leave and he decides to stay because she’s curious about what’s going on. Yui legit has zero growth in this show. She’s just a static, pathetic blob. The rest of the characters are these six brothers. I won’t go into detail on each one because that would be pointless. But the only way I can describe them is that they are glorious assholes. They do as they please to Yui and they really don’t care about her feelings at all. They treat her like a slave. One of them continually calls her a derogatory name and she never once gets angry at him for it. I kept waiting for one of them to show her a little bit of kindness. Like perhaps a knight in shining armor amongst all of the rest of them. But there wasn’t. At the end you get the impression that one of them might have some feelings for her but they’re still selfish feelings, not ones with Yui in mind at all. Again, none of the brothers ever show any real growth. They never feel any remorse for what they have done in their past (which you will see if you watch) and they only care about themselves. They don’t even really seem to care about each other. The only reason I didn’t give the characters a lower score was because I thought the writers did an excellent job of portraying them as such wicked people.
Music 7/10
The music was one of the more redeeming factors in this anime. It fit the macabre theme really well. It was one of the things that helped me get into the cliche one dimensional story. The theme song was pretty good too. Especially the music they use in the first episode.
Along with music I’m just going to add in something about sound. I want to warn anyone considering watching this anime that there is an absurd amount of disgusting slurping and sucking sounds when the vampires are biting Yui. It really got on my nerves. It sounded more like they were biting into a crisp apple.
Animation 8/10
The animation and the art style in this anime was definitely its best quality by far. Everything is beautifully drawn and animated. It’s a reverse harem anime so the boys in it, while evil to the core are quite pretty to watch. Also if you love the whole gothic style this anime will definitely fulfill your fancy. Though if the art style is the only thing that will catch your eye then it’s probably not worth your time.
Overall: 5/10
If the animation hadn’t been as good as it was I would have scored this a bit lower. I really don’t recommend this anime to anyone who doesn’t like the vampire genre, reverse harem, stupid main characters or lots of blood. I will say that for whatever reason it deep keep me watching which was a good thing I guess. I marathoned it in less than 24 hours. It’s twelve episodes and they’re only 14 minutes long so it goes pretty fast. So if you’re curious it won’t be a complete waste of time. If you like English dubbed the entire series is on Youtube in one video. And if you watch it and like it, Season 2 airs this October (2015) and there is an OVA.

Plot 10/10
Summary: Nagi No Asukara (NagiAsu) takes place in a time and place where humans live like we do now in addition to people who live under water. Long ago all humans lived under water due to an extra layer of skin called Ena which allows them to breathe underwater. Some people remained there under the sea and some left and live on land. The story centers around a group of middle school students from the ocean who come up to the surface to go to school since their school has been abandoned. On the surface, the people can tend to be quite racist
...
of those living in the sea.
It may sound a bit silly at first but the plot to this anime is simply wonderful. It’s hard to even explain why without spoiling the anime. The story is told in such a way that you bond to almost every single character emotionally and when things happen to them you connect to it and really feel it. There’s many twists in the things that happen that take you on a wonderful rollercoaster of a journey with these characters. The other great thing about this anime is that it breaks the barriers for its genre. We have your typical school-aged kids with their usual drama that goes along with them. Yet the story has a much deeper plot than that and they take it in an unconventional way. After watching so many shoujo animes, this one was a breath of fresh air. It really pulls on your heartstrings.
Characters: 10/10
Like I said before, this anime makes you feel something for almost every single character. Unlike some animes, I really cared about the fate of each one and wanted them to accomplish something by the end. The relationships between characters were much stronger than others I’ve seen as well. The pacing of this show was great and I felt that it really allowed you to get to know everyone in the right amount of time; not too rushed and not too drawn out either. The characters themselves were extremely likeable to me. There was one in particular that I really wasn’t crazy about in the first half of the show, but later they develop beautifully and really grow on me, becoming a favorite.
Music: 10/10
The music in Nagi Asu was pretty darn perfect. The music did a perfect job of making you feel the tone they were trying to get across. It brought suspense, sadness and happiness at the appropriate times.
Animation: 10/10
If for some crazy reason you don’t find yourself enjoying this anime, the animation is one thing that you can’t deny was stunning. The detail and use of color, especially in the underwater scenes was just beautiful. The attention to detail is what made this special. You can tell the animators really took the time and effort they needed to make this show look good. No random outsourcing for the animating on this one.
Overall: 10/10
This show I thought was phenomenal. There really wasn’t much of anything that I didn’t like. The ONE thing that didn’t quite please me was the ending. It was a solid ending and it felt like the show came to a proper end. I just wished that there was a bit more of a definite explanation of how the characters end up. But it wasn’t enough to make me dislike it at all. It’s really a great show that not so many people know about as of when I’m writing this. It’s one you should definitely give a try especially if you like the shoujo, romance, or supernatural genres.

Plot: 7/10
Summary: This anime begins with our main character Kotoko Aihara who is a third year high school student. She's in class F which is known as the "stupid class" in the school. She has fallen in love with fellow senior Naoki Irie who is the smartest, most popular and most sought after guy in school. He is in the elite class A. In an embarrassing turn of events Kotoko gives Naoki a letter confessing her long term feelings for him which he immediately rejects. When she returns to her newly built home later that night, an earthquake strikes causing her entire home to
...
fall apart. This leaves Kotoko and her father with nowhere to go. Last minute, out of the kindness of their heart, Mr. Aihara's old high school friend offers to let the two of them stay in their house until the Aihara home can be repaired. Who is Mr. Aihara's high school friend? None other than Naoki's father. Now Kotoko has to live with the embarrassment of her recent confession while living under the same roof as Naoki.
I give the plot on this one a 7/10 because it is just so typical! There are so many shoujo animes that are about the dumb, ditzy girl falling for the smart, popular, perfect guy that everyone likes. The one thing that redeems it is that it takes a turn that's different than most animes of its kind. Itazura Na Kiss takes Kotoko's story through not only high school, but college and adulthood. It spans over a solid 15 year time period which is really nice to see. The high school portion of this anime actually only lasts through the first seven episodes. So that difference in pace is why I like this anime over others.
Characters 6/10
The characters in this anime really annoy me to be honest. Kotoko's ditzyness really wares on your nerves after awhile. Actually it doesn't even take that long to tire of her. Yet, as the story progresses they do an excellent job of progressing her character. She never completely changes but gets a lot better. Naoki has his own set of problems. He's just rude. There's really no other way to describe it other than that. You watch the entire show hoping he's going to get better, and he does, but not too much. The other side characters also get annoying and random at times. Some of them become unnecessary toward the end. They pop up randomly and you almost forget they existed. That being said, the overall story progresses the characters well. In the end, you get to see what happens to each one of the ones who are actually important parts of the story. It leaves no loose ends which is something a lot of other animes do.
Music: I really can't give music a proper score on here because it doesn't really exist in this anime. I mean, yes they have background music in it but it's nothing I can really pinpoint as being bad or good. It's just... there.
Animation: 6/10
The animation in this isn't bad by any definition of the word. It's decent enough. There's just nothing about it that makes it more than average. It's just basic, fairly fluid and has decent use of colors. At times I did find it almost to have a blurry unfocused quality about it. So I found it just, meh.
Overall: 8/10
You may be wondering, why did you give this anime such a high overall score when you didn't give any of the sub categories a super high score? If I was making this review after I watched it the first time I would have given it a 5 or 6/10. But I actually rewatched it and enjoyed it a lot more the second time. I feel like with this anime, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. To properly enjoy it you have to really read between the lines and think about why the characters are the way they are. I noticed a lot more about Naoki especially the second time around. There is a decent amount of comedy to balance out the drama as well. So to me the negative aspects that I mentioned above are mostly outweighed by the things I enjoyed. If you watch it once and like it, definitely try watching it again after a couple of months or so and you might like it even more.

Plot: 7/10
Summary: Ao Haru Ride takes place in your typical Japanese high school like many other animes of its genre. Overall it centers over main character Futaba who is in her second year of high school. It begins with immediate flashbacks to middle school where she meets the sweet Kou Tanaka. The two begin to get close making it obvious that a romantic relationship could start. But because of her classmates' rude comments regarding how appealing Futaba is to guys, she begins to feel insecure. They say that because she is so appealing to the boys in school, girls don't want to be her
...
friend. So in attempt to shed the image of being the "cute girl" she makes the loud statement that she doesn't like guys, AT ALL. Of course Kou overhears this without ever knowing her true feelings. Fast forward to Futaba's second year of high school and she is now popular with more female friends even though they may be fake at times. She achieves this through trying to act more masculine. Meanwhile, Kou has moved away and lives elsewhere in Japan. When he moves back Futaba has to deal with the drama that surrounds his return.
I give the plot of this show a 7/10 because it tends to be generic and follows a lot of the typical anime tropes. There's a lot of back and forth and wishy-washyness throughout which can get a bit annoying at times. The reason I give this a higher score is because the emotional aspects of it make you want to stay with the plot and root for the main characters. The worst thing about this anime in my opinion is that it ends way too abruptly. Being only 12 episodes long, you can expect them to have a hard time telling the whole story in great detail without skipping a lot of things. Having read the manga, this anime ends before the real meat and potatoes of the story even begins. There's a couple of characters that we don't even meet in the anime. It's the kind of anime that leaves you wanting to read the manga. If you like the anime I definitely recommend reading the manga to get even more of this sweet story.
Characters 7/10
I would give the characters a 10/10 if it wasn't for some of the annoyingness of the 2 main characters. Futaba is really sweet and means well but she can tend to be the typical shoujo ditz at times. Kou can also get super indecisive and lies about his true feelings which can get on your nerves at times. But at the end of the day all of the characters are pretty likeable. I also feel that they did an excellent job with characterization despite the short time frame. You really feel connected to all of the major characters and get into their story. There's always the wish to get into more backstories with certain people, but not even the manga delivers that.
Music 9/10
Music doesn't really play a huge part in this anime. But when it does, it really brings out the emotion. I wouldn't say it brought me to tears at any point, but it definitely ties together the scenes when it's used. The theme song is also nice and catchy. It will get stuck in your head!
Animation 9/10
The animation in this in my opinion is pretty strong. It has a lot of lighter colors and smooth edges. For such a short anime they took the time to make it look pretty darn good. It also sticks very close to the style of the manga. Like any anime it has it's moments where the animation looks a little wonky, but overall a job well done.
Overall 8/10
I give this anime and 8/10 because even with its generally generic plot and characters that can get a little tiresome at times, the anime brings emotion and a truly moving story. The animation is pretty spot on and if you enjoy the musical aspects of a show you will enjoy that as well. In addition if you like a good dramatic romance with a *SPOILER) happy ending, this anime is for you. And again, if you watch this a like it, I strongly recommend that you read the manga which is already finished. It will leave you wanting more.
