Both movies contain a frantic, cartoony style with R rated violence and sex. Both movies are super fast paced about a pair of people on the run fighting the authorities who chase after them who are conducting secret evil genetic experiments. The characters designs are random eccentric amalgamations of things that only vaguely resemble humans.

Tells the story of a young boy who wants to be and acts like an adult in a quiet and lazy town. He has a crush on an older woman with a kind of crazy and magical ability, and tags along with her and helps her until the very end. Both anime feel surreal and oddly hazy, like some kind of beautiful fever dream.

The main character is a fairly ordinary boy thrown into super crazy shit going on all around him. Rule of Cool plays a huge factor, with cool things popping up without much explanation. The directing is super dynamic and crazy, the soundtrack is awesome and fits the settings well (uses rock and roll), and it's just a super fun time.

Both are episodic dramatic stories about a girl who has had traumatic experiences in the past and builds emotional connections and more confidence in herself as the show continues. Has a similar feeling of at first having a comedic, slice of life type tone with a wacky supernatural power changing the lives of our protagonists as they make use of it and adjust, but then later develops a sadder and more desperate tone. There is a beautiful but bittersweet romance, and a similar twist that occur in the later part of both movie. The directing style feels a bit similar too.

Aliens come to earth and modify an ordinary person with an ordinary life, making them superhuman. Both are action-packed and gory. A big theme in both involves the main character trying to keep his humanity and learn what makes one human despite superhuman changes. They are both very tense and fast paced as well, with cliffhangers each episode.
