Preliminary Report :
1)This is my first review!
2)This turned out to be veryyyyy long, but do take the time please!
Now let's get this over with. But first let me tell you another story in plain words so you can understand what this anime/movie is about.
There is a story, a tragedy romance, in our literature. I don't actually know if it's even real or it was just a mere poem written by Waris Shah in 1766 to convey the message. The story is of a rich girl named "Heer" of a tribe called Sial, and a simple farmer's boy "Ranjha" of the Ranjha tribe. Ranjha
...
was the youngest of four brothers and he was the dearest to his father, while his brothers worked in the fields he used to pass his time playing flute. At some time he had a fight over land/property with his brothers and he was forced to leave the village. He wandered off here and there sometime and he finally settled in a village. Here he sees a beautiful girl (Heer) and fall in love with him. In further desperation he even gets a job by Heer's father to herd the cattle. He agrees to such a toiling yet disrespectful work just so he can be close to Heer. Heer then also falls in love with him and they start seeing each other in secret. Just as everything felt like heaven someone tells this whole tale of romance to Heer's father. Infuriated by the fact that a man of lower financial and no social status was in love with his daughter he sends men to beat him up and send him away from his village. Ranjha becomes so heartbroken that he totally cuts himself off with the material world and becomes a monk in a far off village. But just as he thought he had left the past where it belonged he catches glimpse of Heer once again, who came to visit a shrine with a man. He had totally thrown off by the sight of her love that he even left his life as monk and went searching for Heer. After some time in a distant village he finds the whereabouts of Heer but he also finds that she is married to that man. He was again left alone in this world but his human nature couldn't help but force him to get to meet her just one last time. He even gets some favors done for the people who might be able to provide him with his lust to see Heer. Just as he was strengthening his heart to deal with this battle of emotions when he gets to meet her, some people bring him very grave news. They tell him that Heer somehow knew about him being in this village and she couldn't bear this cruelty of this world and its norms and she committed suicide. They told him that she did this to end the suffering of Ranjha because there was no other way to convince him that its finally time to depart from here and leave the past and the dead where they belong, "with the dust". Now a bond so strong that led Ranjha through so many hardships but he kept embracing them with a smile and a worm heart just because of that hope that somewhere there is someone who is meant for me, "HEER", that bond was gone. Feeling he has no meaning no purpose to live in this cruel world that took Heer from her, and all he wanted was one last breath that he breathes with Heer, Ranjha takes his life by eating a poisoned sweet. As the news spread of a man who just died and of his mysterious past, in this village, Heer comes running to see for herself. ??? Yes Heer was still alive then. The thing is, those men whom Ranjha had helped had showed what a kind heart can do when it's filled with nothing but sorrow. They came to know that the Husband of Heer wants to kill him and asked these men to bring him (Ranjha) in. They could not do that to Ranjha, they did what a good friend would do and took extreme measures to tell this grave lie to Ranjha that Heer died. They did this to save him from that brute husband of Heer to make him leave this god forsaken village and go forget about Heer for good as it'll only bring him harm. Now Heer sees his true love after an eternity and what a grim sight it was for her. She could not bear this cruelty any longer her life seemed to be a burden that was getting heavier every second. Before she would lose her sanity and with it the memories the feelings of Ranjha when he first played flute for her, she ate the same sweet and killed her self. Perhaps it was better this way they could finally be together in afterlife.
MORAL : Love is like a soul parted in two bodies, you dare not separate them or it will be nothing but despair.
Now you know that this anime is a story where everyone loses. And i only like this anime because of it's tale other than that it has some stupid blunders and absolutely no character building. This visuals are pretty good everything seems very proportional and balanced through and through.
Goodies:
1) Story : .................................................................................8
2) Visuals : ..............................................................................9
3) Music : .................................................................................9
I liked the song in the ending, i think music is a universal language as it speaks directly to your heart.
Not-so-goodies:
1) Character depth :
All three main characters lacked depth they never made me as a part of the anime which is the first rule: to engage the audience when you are presenting something.
2) Inconclusive ending :
The ending was soooo .... "LEFT ALONE" . They show us that he finally reaches the state of Ranjha when he was finally about to meet Heer, but they throw it all away. I don't understand why was Tokaki left hanging and how was Akira could not notice him after all they have been through. The train station scene, The letters of Akira and all.
3) Blunder : ............................ SPOILER .....................................
There was a letter Tokaki wrote for Akira he was suppose to give it to her. I'll also state that that letter had some sort of confession of his love and feelings towards Akira. But he lost that at the train station. In the end Akira somehow finds it!!!.... how in the hell she got a letter that was lost ages ago on an open friggin' platform? just how?
summarizing this now, i kinda enjoyed this 3 part movie/anime but it also left me heartbroken and wet eyes. You should watch it too but beware this is only for the brave-heart.
do give feedback Bye!
