Samurai Champloo

Also directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, if you're looking for something with that mishmash of excellently animated action sequences and scenarios ranging from sincere and serious to absolutely hilarious, than Samurai Champloo should be next in your radar. Though Champloo isn't perfect. If Bebop's episodes were like 70% good, 20% okay, and 10% bad, Champloo's episodes are like 50% good, 30% okay, and 20% bad. The first half, in particular, is where most of the okay/bad episodes reside. Champloo has great animation on par with Bebop, but it can be very inconsistent: one episode could have amazing action sequences and other episodes seem to be constrained by budget. This is to the same degree with characters: the main cast isn't necessarily as charismatic or meaningfully developed as the Bebop cast, though they are pretty funny. Music is good (for reasons entirely different than Bebop), though some episodes don't give it an opportunity to shine. If you were interested in the world of Bebop (science fiction, spaceships and all), then it'd be best to look for another recommendation. But if you were interested in the spirit of Bebop (episodic, funny/serious hybrid, unconventionality), then Champloo should be enjoyable to some degree.
