This has got to be one of the worst anime I've watched in a long time. The only reason I've even made it up to episode 10 was for the animation quality and to see if things would improve in terms of story and world building.
It did not.
Episode 10 was a breaking point for me. The animation quality was obviously inferior, the directing was awful, and worst of all, it's staying dreadfully committed to being awful in every way.
Right from the beginning of this anime, it's shown itself to be the worst kind of incel wish fulfilment imaginable. Yuuya is painted as
...
a guy who's only redeeming quality is that he's "nice." in more than the typical Japanese politeness way. He "saves" a girl from being hit on and is rewarded with a beat down, but this is too tragic, and nice guys must be rewarded.
We spend the next 9 episodes watching as Jesus Yamato has everything handed to him without effort. Begins to do everything perfectly all the time, gets every girl wet for him instantly, is given miracle level powers and items for merely existing, free tuition and admittance to a prestigious school, all the money he could need, transformation into the hottest man to ever walk the planet, and all he has to do is... whatever he feels like. No one even questions that he's transformed from short and fat to tall and handsome, or any of the other unnatural acts he suddenly pulls off after one high school summer vacation. I suppose they're all too busy creaming their pants to think about how unreal it is.
That's just the lead up though. Let's not forget that literally every person around him is infantilized, caricatured, and made completely incompetent lest they threaten our protag's superiority. Kaori is so disastrously bad at sports that Yuuya has to step in, literally jumping in front of her and not even letting her actually play the game to save her from her predicament. Go on Koari honey and make big man Yuuya a sandwich dear. Not that you can even make a sandwich as good as he can.
Seriously, I get wish fulfillment. This ain't it.
If all you want is to shut off your brain and immerse yourself in the most illogical, unrealistic and pandering to incels mysognistic wish fulfillment imaginable, then this is for you.
update: I finished this trash. Spoilers, yuuya saves the day, and is still a moron. Quality control is still all over the place. Going to go puke now.
To be clear, it's not the power fantasy that is the problem. Overpowered MCs can be fun. The problem with this show is that every other character is flat and exists only to stroke the MC's ego and obsess over him. It's not that the MC is OP, it's that he's OP and the whole world just collectively jizzes itself over him.
