Roshidere starts off interesting in a couple of first episodes and most people probably expect it to be just a fun school life romcom to watch, but somehow the story overcooked the perfect materials they have and made an unbelievably bad story instead by adding a student council election as the main focus instead of just focusing on either the relationships or character development. Feels like the plot is so lost in combining the election for the character development because the character development is so bad in this anime. It's such a shame because the characters could be interesting and the characters design are so
...
good.
The beginning of the story is actually fine and can just be a generic romcom and I wouldn't mind it. It's when they get to the serious part that this anime became less interesting and boring to watch. It'll be one thing if the election part is actually interesting but it's actually so bad. Both the reason and conclusion for the first debate they have in this anime is so forced and that's the point where I lose hope in this anime. This is a minor spoiler but I'm not even joking, the MC solved the first debate by saying " Should we even have this debate in the first place? " to the audience. Then why do it in the first place? They want to make the MC looks smart, but it's not a good way to do it.
Alya also as the female MC has the worst character development. They introduced her as a smart character with top grades at her school, very serious and good at sports as well. But when it comes to the serious matter she actually can't do anything and always needs to be rescued by the MC. There's a problem in the student council? Can't even talk and needs to be saved. During the debate? Saved again. During the 1 on 1 talk with Yuki? Also can't do anything. Like what is her good point even? If I'm one of the student on that school, I still have no reason to even vote for her other than her being smart. Even after the anime ends, I'm still not convinced she's a good candidate. Feels like the author made her just to bully her or something.
Yuki is just the bait that caught all of us to watch this anime after watching some of her clips on social media (yeah I'm one of those people who got baited). She's actually the most interesting character on this anime due to her duo personality between serious mode and little sister mode in front of the MC and her VA gives a good performance as well in showing off two personalities, but even she is not safe from the bad character development this anime has. They showed her "cunning" side near the end of the anime and it's so lame. Both her and the MC "serious" mode during this event made me cringe instead.
Won't get into the details on the rest of the characters. The MC is the usual generic lazy otaku character but turned out he's actually smart when he put his mind into it. Masha looks like she will be an important character in the future and she's still a better character than Alya. Ayano is just a generic kuudere maid and has no development at all during the whole story.
It's just so sad to see such a good material turned into such a bad and boring story to watch. Oh did I mentioned the part where Alya sometimes said affectionate things in Russian? Yeah everyone probably forgot about that just like how it's almost non existent near the end of the anime. The only thing that I remembered about her at the end of the anime is how bad she is as a student council president candidate. So much for the title. Anyway I just need to rant about this somewhere and I think this is a good place because I'm not mad, just disappointed.
