I ran across Alice no Himegoto in my research on Alice in Wonderland based manga and anime. I'm no stranger to Hentai, but loli (which this is) isn't my area. I'm going to try to put that aside for this review for the most part.
Story: 6
The story was fairly well done for a parody of Alice in Wonderland. It's creative in its execution, beginning in media res and returning to the beginning scene once it's explained how she ended up there. That was a good hook. She has a mission to complete and that helps push her along through this Wonderland. There are some
...
creative sex scenes one really doesn't expect. Anthromorphic pigs, doorknobs that need to be pleasured, and a sex scene in which the whole of the Mad Tea Party mix a cake using Alice as the bowl. So I give it points for creativity.
Art: 7
I thought the art was well done. I unfortunately don't have much to say on it, but it was good. I've seen a lot better and I've seen a lot worse. It's a typical level for hentai. It has a few colored pages which are nice.
Character: 6
I thought the characters were well done even though there was a base off which to work for most of them. Alice was your typical protagonist for this sort of work. But that she had motivation to keep moving through this world where she was getting screwed around every corner was nice.
Enjoyment: 3
I didn't enjoy this very much myself. I'm not a fan of loli, so this accounts for the vast majority of my dislike. But putting aside that note, trying to pretend she's older, it was well executed and I did enjoy the creativity and the fun aspect of it. It's not my cup of tea, but if you enjoy loli, I do recommend this. It's a fun concept.
Overall: 6
Whether or not you will like this will fully depend on whether or not you enjoy loli. Some of the other fetishes addressed that the reader should be aware of are: inflation of breasts, milking fetish, light bdsm, girlxgirl, anthromorphic pigs, food, and rape which is addressed lightly. I don't enjoy things that include rape which affected my enjoyment rating as well. The rape in this story is glossed over. Alice isn't traumatized by it in the least, so it's like it wasn't actually rape. This is a real mood killer for me, because I don't like rape in any form in my hentai. It might not be enjoyable for someone who does like rape in hentai, because it's not emphasized, as I've seen some complain about such a thing before. It's one of those things you have to judge for yourself.
It goes about all of this in a light-hearted and fun manner, so if you're the type of person who can get over things they don't usually like, it might be an interesting read for you as well. Overall, I think I have to say, that the author's approach to the story and the art make this a decent manga despite fetishes and preferences.

Story: The story itself is very simple but it reflects Buddhism very well in that manner. It is simple yet moving. The story is slow paced in a very beautiful way. Not everyone will enjoy this story, but those who do will love it.
Art: I thought the art was very beautiful, especially the scenery. A lot of detail and care was put into the art. The colors are bright and vibrant. The characters are simple but nice. I thought the animation of the lips was done very well.
Sound: I'm not a big sound person and the music of this anime was very subtle. Again,
...
it reflected a Buddhist nature very well. The music did what background music should do, and it did it very well. It added to the scenes' emotions without distracting. I thought the ending credit song was rather beautiful.
Character: I fell in love with the characters which were, as the rest of the film, very subtle and simple. Yet, they were very easy to sympathize with and become attached to.
Enjoyment and Overall: I very much enjoyed this film. I can't really properly express the amount of joy it brought to my day. It made me appreciate life a bit more than usual, made me take more tn. I'll say it again, it's a very Buddhist film. And I enjoyed and appreciated that.

Story : The story for this anime will be hard for a lot of people to pick up on because it relies entirely on visuals. If you like to analyze things, go for it. I just took two classes for analyzing art and literature, so I enjoyed it easily. If you find yourself going "WTF?" over the simplest of symbolism, I don't recommend you watching this one. You will be vastly confused. The fact that it requires more thinking than the average anime and the story itself is nothing amazingly original has prompted me to give it a 6.
Art : Now, this is where 1001
...
Nights seems to lose a lot of people. The art is very abstract and nothing like your typical anime. This anime mixes 3-D and 2-D art rather well, but most of the art is 2-D. It has a very sketchy look to it; like a colored pencil drawing. It gets a 9 because, to be very honest, I love this kind of art. If they had botched the mixture of 3-D and 2-D, I'd probably have been extremely strict on this section and given it a 5, but it works together.
Sound : Amazing. If you like orchestral music, this is going to be the shit for you, honestly. There is only one instance of voice acting at the very beginning, and I have to say that this is very well done, too. The moment I heard this woman's voice and the dialogue I was drawn straight into this one. I was like, "This is gonna be awesome." So, even though it's only used once, the dialogue and voice acting are a great hook in this anime. Therefore, 10.
Character : These characters serve their purpose very well. If you like to get into the mind of a character, understand everything about them, their actions, and their motivations, don't touch this. This anime is all about the emotions of these two lovers. You're not invited into the inner corridors of their mind. If, on the other hand, you are enraptured with emotions, these characters are teeming with it. Desire, longing, sorrow; it's all there despite the somewhat flat way in which they're expressed. This is why 1001 Nights gets a 7 on characters. The artistic representation of the character's emotions are somewhat hindered by the stylized form of art used on them.
Enjoyment : I, personally, enjoyed this anime greatly. It pulled me in and kept me enraptured for 23 whole minutes with absolutely no dialogue or direct plot/action. That's pretty good for someone of my attention span. So, it gets a 9.
Overall : It reminds me of Fantasia. If you like fantasia, take a look at this. It's like a Japanese, sex-centered Fantasia. X3 But really, it's not an anime for everyone. It has it's audience, and you'll just have to watch it to find out if you're a part of that audience. If you like artsy things, analyzing, symbolism, abstract artwork, or those old serious cartoons, you'll like this. I did, and that's why Overall it gets a 9 on my list.

I thought this to be a beautiful yaoi in my own personal opinion. I was completely engrossed with the character Gilbert and I would love to read the manga if I could find it. The story was very interesting - hence my wanting to read the manga - and I love the time period it's set in. I've read plenty of novels set during the same time though usually in other parts of the world. Certain aspects remind me of a few of those novels in particular. It is a bit melodramatic but if you can watch a soap opera without screaming in agony you
...
should be fine. I thought the romance was beautiful and even the art for it's time. The relationship between Serge and Gilbert was the most interesting to me - especially on Serge's side. I can't really put into words why I liked this one so much. It has to be Gilbert but then I think - no it's Serge. So I can't quite place it. However, if you like sad things, melodrama, nostalgic feelings or tragic characters you'll probably like this anime.
