I've been thinking of how to write this review... Of what I rank it in my personal opinion, and where I put it at in my "favorite manga" list. Today I'm finally certain; and I'm ready to write this review.
Berserk is now my favorite manga of all-time, previously tied with Oyasumi Punpun for me. Berserk is the true definition of a Masterpiece. Leaves you wanting more, and wanting to re-read it again... and again and again.
If I had to explain WHY I love this manga, I honestly couldn't tell you. Besides a few exceptions like
...
LotR; I'm not interested in this timeline at all. I don't like medieval, fantasy, stories. I'm more interested in modern time romance/depressing stories, and that's one reason why I haven't read series like Vinland Saga, or One Piece which are 2 critically claimed masterpieces themselves. Though I think Berserk has since changed my interest in what I like.
The amount of characters that you just fall in-love with are so memorable. The amount of influence this game has had on media, movies, games, etc. is just insane. The art may come off to new-comers as messy, and I can speak for this because whenever I flipped through a volume before actually starting it that's what I thought. But you're very wrong. Once you get into it, it all just pops out at you, and you find yourself staring at the panels for longer than usual, in a very good way. Not in a Tokyo Ghoul way, where you're spending the entire time figuring out what's going on.
There truly is no word to describe how good Berserk is, but with that said, it's also NOT for everyone. Especially those who can't stand an incomplete story. Right now, Kentaro Miura is on hiatus with 364 chapters released (yes I'm counting 000a as chapter 1) and it is a possibility he may never finish this story. It's not certain like Vagabond; but it's a possibility. He started when he was 23, and he's now 52 years old as the time of posting this and apparently only 60% done with the story. Unless he really picks up the pace, once he hits his 70's I fear this will reach Vagabond status in meaning the chances of completion are near impossible. With that said, I personally think this is a story too good to pass on, even with the hiatus.
Definitely check out Berserk, even if you're not interested in the timeline. Just give it a try, like I did. You'll thank me later.

When you see someone put a Masterpiece on a title, you assume to yourself that just can't be; for 10/10 implies something is perfect, but as we all know nothing in this world is perfect.... But it can damn-well be close. And since nothing in the world can't be perfect, why does such a rating exist? Well, for this very reason.
Oyasumi Punpun (or, Goodnight Punpun) is the perfect example of this; the story kept me drawn in the entire time, and while the character's themselves are often depicted as comical with their really silly faces, it doesn't take away from the amount of sad and
...
darkness this manga brings.
DO NOT BE FOOLED by Punpun's appearance, or those around him. Reading this manga for the first time I read the first 9 chapters and nearly gave up. I didn't understand why Punpun is depicted as a bird, or why everyone's face is so silly. I'd be lying if I told you I had the intelligence to deconstruct why Inio Asano depicts his characters like he does, but I can tell you that it doesn't effect the story at all. If you like real, sad, depressing and dark coming of age, slice of life stories... Then Goodnight Punpun is for you.
There really wasn't anywhere in this manga that was slow, or boring for me. I can maybe think of a few chapters, which is why I don't rate the story a 10, but rather a 9.8. For those that don't know, I round my score's up/down to determine a true rating, and I believe Punpun's true rating is a Masterpiece.
Final ratings:
Story - 9.8
Art - 10
Characters - 9.7
Enjoyment - 9.9
Overall - 10

After having finished this manga, I loved it.
It was an emotional roller coaster definitely, however the ending left me a little bit dissatisfied. Please don't confuse this manga and think it's ultimately a love-story like I did, because, like me, the ending won't be as impactful as it should be.
While the ending was a great ending, and there was nothing wrong with it, I just think the mangaka forgot one KEY piece that would've just made my heart melt.
Overall, I give it an 8/10 if the mangaka hadn't forgot just one set of words to say at the very end, this would be a 9.
...
But I understand, my own expectations let me down, and it's my fault. Don't take what I said and let it affect whether you should read it or not, because this is one of the ONLY mangas I can truly say “*Everyone should read this.*” because they should. Now, i'll talk about WHAT the mangaka forgot:
Before you continue reading, minor SPOILERS:
Before you say "of course it's not a love story! it's your own expectations that left you down, that's you're fault!"
Yes, I am well aware of this. However; why didn't the mangaka have Shoya say “*I love you too*”? I mean, the ending would've been perfect (imo) and I would've bumped the score up from an 8 to a 9/10. That's just one person's humble opinion, and don't let it take you away from the manga. Because, it's still beautiful.

You know it's hard for me to rate a series 10/10, with anything. Because it usually implies it's perfect, but almost nothing is perfect.
This was my first Anime "Movie" I've finished Death Note, currently watching Attack on Titan & Monster but as far as movies are concerned. This was my first.
I did very much enjoy this series, but I can't really judge it compared to other anime seeing as how it's my one of my first anime's I've watched.
The ending kind of left me disappointed, I would've liked more of a conclusion rather than a cut off at the most important part of the entire
...
thing. Maybe the manga will clear it up, I plan to pick up the manga eventually.
Overall, I'd give it an 9.

The best thriller I've ever seen out of ALL form of media.
This is one of the few series I would rate a masterpiece.
Before you continue you reading, if you go into this expecting too much, you'll be disappointed. You need to see it as it is, and find somewhere in the middle of expectations. I feel as if my enjoyment level was effected a little bit, due to being so highly praised, but once I gave it some thought, it still is a brilliant and masterful piece.
It's not you're typical manga, there's no superpower, supernatural, or overly depressing life stories with this one. This
...
honestly feels like an American made TV show. It's very eerie, and very suspenseful. It is definitely worth your every penny. (Please, purchase if you are going to read it. Support this brilliant Author/Mangaka "Naoki Urasawa".)
It's also worth your full attention; as there is so many characters introduced, with meaning. Even the smallest character you meet, effects the story and might even show up 10+ volumes in after only seeing him in the first couple.
It's a story about this neurosurgeon "Dr. Tenma" whose faced with the choice to save the mayor, and get a promotion, or choose a young boy, who came in before the mayor, and get a demotion/never be promoted again. Either way, one of them dies.
Well, he chooses the boy feeling emotional, and saves his life. Thus getting demoted of Lead Neurosurgeon, and never going anywhere with his career again. But, a couple days later, everyone in power of keeping Dr. Tenma from his rightfully deserved position, dies. and Tenma is then promoted. Naturally, the investigators suspect Tenma.
Now, if you don't want spoilers to who the killer is, don't read any further. Personally, I would recommend stopping here, and reading it yourself. (Even though they tell you who the killer is in the first volume)

The killer... is the boy Tenma saved. He finds out 10 years later, after all these strange murders are taken place, the killer then tries to kill one of Tenma's patients, to which the killer revealed himself to Tenma. So, Tenma sets out on a journey to kill this MONSTER, this Devil... and it's just... An amazing story.
Overall I give it a 10/10, perfectly done. The ending was a little anti-climactic for most, but personally I think it was very well done. The story was never meant to end is a super, climactic battle between the two. But that last page... Ughhghh it gave me shivers. 10/10, can't say it enough.
Please, read this masterpiece. Purchase this masterpiece and support the series. But, like I said, don't go into it expecting TOO much. Just, read it. Stop reading reviews, stop watching videos. Just READ it.

I watched the anime before I read the manga, and I suggest you do the same.
The level of voice acting, along with the outstanding soundtrack just makes this manga SO much better.
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the manga. They're equal as far as enjoyment is concerned. But, I feel like if you enjoy reading manga more than watching anime, then you might just enjoy the manga a LOT more if you watch the anime first.
When it comes to the mind battles, you can hear L's or Kira's theme play in the back of your head as you read... It's really an amazing
...
thing. Never experienced it before besides with Attack on Titan.
Now, we'll get onto the story.
The best part of this series is up until chapter 58. Then it starts to die down until the very end, which, (imo) is well worth the wait. The ending is very intense, and very good. But the actions leading up to the end were quite tedious and boring, I must say. (Even though, I do like Near)
I am rating this an 8.5 for in-case you actually read it BEFORE the anime, but if we were taking it into consideration that you watched the anime first, i'd give it a 9. The manga and anime differences are slight, but I do enjoy the manga a little bit more, however without hearing their voices or the music in my head, I would say I enjoyed the anime a bit more. If you understand my confusing analogy lol.
Check it out, it's great.

My review on this is; it's pretty good.
The speech bubbles were hard to follow, I had to watch the movie after reading it to understand some of the conversations because I couldn't tell who was saying what. (Not important conversations, I got the jist of it.)
As far as the art goes, it's pretty. I'll give it that, however I'm not a fan of how more than half of the time no-one has a face. It's just an empty void. Not sure if it's just the artist's art style, or if it was just rushed. I still enjoyed the artwork.
The story is pretty good, short.. I
...
was sort of disappointed by the ending, and I don't know if it was just me but I was not expecting the main character being that young. Maybe I missed where they had mentioned how young he was at the beginning, but I got the impression that he was 16+.
Overall, i'd rate it a 7.5, losing points for the confusing speech bubbles, lack of facial detail in the art, and the ending (however, the ending is entirely opinion based)
Good short read. Is it worth $13? No. Is it worth $6-7? Sure.

This was the first anime I watched, so the score may be a bit biased. I see a lot of people rating it a 8-9 but for me it's definitely one of, if not, my favorite anime. If you don't know what it is about, it's about the world's smartest student who gets his hands on a notebook that kills people if you write their names. To which, he uses to kill criminals and rid the world of evil. But of course, what HE is doing is evil. So, the world's greatest detective (L) tries to find how all of these criminals are mysteriously dying.
A
...
lot of people didn't like the Yotsuba or near/mello arc, but I actually enjoyed the entire show. That doesn't mean to say that the L vs Light arc was on par, because it wasn't. The first arc is the best out of the entire show, but I enjoyed the show as a whole and I liked all of the characters.
Yotsuba arc, you get to see the most of L in this arc (my favorite character)
Near/Mello arc, I actually enjoyed how tense the ending of this arc (and the show) was. I'll admit, leading up to the end was kind of boring, but worth it in the end.
Overall, it's a great story and I recommend anybody who wants to get into Anime to watch this series. It's not too over-the-top like Naruto, but it's also just enough fantasy to be interesting all the way through.
