Warning! I'm Russian, so English is not my native language. I tried my best with grammar, but IT WAS STRUGGLE!
Ughhhh! So many conflicted feelings are storming in me right now.
No, I definitely liked the show... It has lovely atmosphere created by music (wow, seriously, Freddie in the ending!?) and art (wow, have you seen these backgrounds!?).
But! Big but.
The series often touch very serious, even tragic aspects of life. Modern slave trade, drug trade, war! By raising these topics, the series takes on some responsibility... But the tone of the series does not correspond at all to such themes. Even if some moments include some heavy
...
emotions, still, the tone remains light. There are no real villains. And this is,, good to some extent? It was really refreshing to see that the titular villains have human traits, including positive ones. Problems begin when the show tries to free the characters from responsibility for their actions. Honestly, at first I was glad to see the three villains at the end, and then I remembered that one of them put many people on drugs, profited from it and never got anything for it. No, of course he lost a lot of money. But he's free, riding a yacht. The maximum punishment (even for slavers! think about it) is the loss of finances. It's hard to take what is happening seriously. Of course, the main characters are generally inviolable, I realized this right after the first arc (spoiler: they didn't even let Dorothy die, omg). Therefore, one of the main features of the series, deception, did not affect me at all. I know perfectly well that no one will die. This causes events to greatly lose weight. And this problem shows itself on many levels. The viewer is harder to deceive, and the events are romanticized. Of course, we can say that such tone was specially chosen to not to burden the viewer with dark reality. But then how right is it to touch upon the above topics?
Although these "but" are very big, I still liked the show very much. Of course, I just finished, but it made me feels something – and emotions are the main thing.
