It really isn’t all that. The series doesn’t take itself too seriously, and the author barely tries to make any scene serious. However, just because the author willingly doesn’t make the plot serious, does it get a pass from being mediocre? The humor feels like an uncle who has tiktok and tries to reference trends just to seem younger. Most character designs seem bland, with at most 5 characters being aesthetically appealing. The plot is very straightforward, and the world building is whatever. This manga’s strong point should be its comedy, but since it maybe made me laugh once, I cannot recommend this to anyone

at all. Luckily enough, it only took me less than a week to read it, so I didn’t waste much time.

Regardless of what you think makes JJK special, being the complex power system, the breathtaking fights, or the hype it carries around, to me the best thing about this manga is its characters. Very few mangas can create such cults around characters, specifically the gojo fangirls, and it is because of this that I believe the overall sentiment around the series has gone sour in the last arc. When many people who are emotionally connected with their favorite characters watch them get dragged through the mud and demolished by the main antagonist it creates a feeling that your character is not being treated with the
...
respect you may think they deserve and why the famously known “Sukuna gauntlet” became very repetitive rather quickly. These last few chapters essentially boiled down to a dreadful wait until the next contender, who could be your favorite character, was just waiting their turn to get pounded.
The series does have its flaws besides the ending, the world-building could’ve been better since the world basically felt like each arc was a bit or a piece of the world rather than an ever-expanding setting. The jujutsu high higher-ups felt like a plot device rather than a meaningful force in the verse, even after Gojo was sealed. The aftermath of the culling games could’ve been explored if the author wasn’t so tired of writing the series. By no means has JJK ever been a perfect series.
The last chapter
After reflecting on the chapter for more than a couple minutes, it shows that Sukuna really valued strength over everything else and only thought about following a new path after he had lost; Mahito on the other hand, the only true curse, clinched to his hate towards everything and remained unwilling to change showing the difference between a true evil villain and someone just works as an antagonist without diminishing each other. Although the ending left plot points unresolved it just goes to show that the story is not about the jujutsu world but about the characters we spent years watching grow, with the exception of Kugisaki who was gone for a LONG time and just reappeared at the end. My biggest gripe with the ending is not gojo’s death, but the merger and how it was treated. Going back to expectations, the merger was something I personally had big expectations for and it just made me dislike the ending even more when Kenjaku’s big plan just vanished into the air. It just feels like an immense fuck you to the readers to introduce something so big just for it to have absolutely 0 payoff.
Something I’ve learned by reading multiple manga is that an ending can ruin a series, but not in this case. JJK reached such high points in the Shibuya arc, the hidden inventory, and the culling games that this last arc by itself cannot tear down everything that came before. Could JJK have been a masterpiece if this last arc was executed perfectly? I don’t think so but regardless it is still amazing.
Overall the series is very good, like I said the characters are very unique and charismatic, the fights are amazing and the strategy that goes behind them is very complex and thrilling, and for anyone who enjoys a good shonen they should all read Jujutsu Kaisen.

I finished the manga around 1 - 2 days ago an I’ve been contemplating to do a review since I never do reviews over such long projects, I do often do reviews on movies since they’re very compact and everything is fresh and is very easy to nitpick. Long TV series that are around 4+ seasons and long mangas that have 250+ chapters have so much content and various different arcs make them much more difficult for me to review since some arcs are bad since the set up others arcs and the overall progression of characters can change so much throughout the story that
...
an entire character can be ruined in 1 season/half an arc. Either way I set my mind to review this manga since its 4:48 AM and I can’t sleep.
The pacing throughout the story is very solid, I did read the entire 350+ chapters in about a week and a half and at no point in my reading sessions did I feel that the plot was being rushed or dragged. Most character designs look great and the overall character growth of our main cast was very enjoyable to see in my opinion, specially with Ban and King which were by far my 2 favorite characters. The settings including places like Camelot, Liones, Purgatory, The Fairy Forest, etc. were very well designed and the over-all country of Britannia was very well developed. These are definitely my highlights from the entire story and in my opinion the cast is what holds this story together.
Now, let’s get to my favorite part of critiquing a project, the hating. Glazing is fine and all but the real fun begins when you get to say everything you disliked about something. SPOILERS ahead.
The author is for sure a man of culture since its common knowledge that boobs > ass, but still it’s tiring to see the same trope of the male cast just shoving their heads in some boobs, FOR CHRIST SAKE ZELDRIS FUCKING SHOVES HIS HEAD MID SENTENCE BETWEEN SOME BOOBS 0.5 SECONDS AFTER DEFEATING THE DEMON LORD, that is fucking outrageous. The way they powered up Ban was fucking INSANE and I really enjoyed when my favorite character managed to scale to the boss of all demons, but the way they defeated the demon king both times had me wanting to throw my phone at the wall. I saw a tweet that said that “the power of friendship” was one of the worst tropes in storytelling, and to me its gotta be up there cause I just hated how all of them just projected themselves into Meliodas’ brain and just cheered him on to beat the final boss meanwhile Ban was squaring up outside, I mean there has to be a better way to beat the boss that has been hyped for more than half the series WHICH SOMEHOW IS NOT THE FINAL BOSS but we’ll get there. I disliked how they stopped showing the combat classes like come on you committed for half the story just let me know how strong they are. Finally, the chaos bullshit ass pull at the end, couldn’t we just have left the Demon Lord as the final bad guy instead of reviving Arthur and creating a new concept of magic which scales above the Demon Lord and the Supreme Deity like why did he do this????? Was it to setup the 4 knights of apocalypse???? There is no reason to ruin such an ending to setup the sequel of the story, just come up with something else.
To end the review on a happier note here are some of my favorite moments throughout the story (not ordered): Gowther’s backstory + recovering his memory, Diane recovers her memories, Dianes kisses King for the first time (RAAAAAAHHHHHHH), Ban in purgatory basically being early Cavs LeBron, King vs corrupted Mael, King vs Helbram, Meliodas getting jumped by the 10 commandments, powerless Escanor vs that random spore, Escanor vs Meliodas, Wild’s initial sacrifice, Wild’s song, Hawk hearing Wild’s song, and Fraudrin feeling empathy after seeing Griamore beg him not to explode.
I know it’s not an excuse but it’s currently 5:18 AM so I apologize for grammar mistakes.
Random thought after the review I didn’t know where to include: why does Cath even end up with Arthur I can’t remember it being properly explained, I know it happened inside the druids' training cave but unlike Griamore's child appearance which was explained in a bonus story (I think) we never get a proper explanation of this, at least not one that I can remember.
