Althought the themes of the shows are different, I find that they both have that same style of suspense that makes you want to watch episode after episode as fast as you possibly can. The mysteries of what happened to Ushio in Summertime Rendering and Akira's past in Higashi no Eden grab you and don't let go. Also, lots of gratuitous nudity and a smart (even though Akira doesn't look it) guy with long-ish black hair as main character.

Layton Mystery Tanteisha: Katri no Nazotoki File

Both series are about the inhabitants of a Detective Agency that solve cases they get involved into. Also, both main charaters, Conan in DC and Kat in LMDA, get looked down to and have to prove themselves thought their series, Conan because he's now a kid and Kat because his father, professor Layton, was the one who solved mysteries. So, if you are looking for a detective anime that won't make you wait until 2099 to see the end of it, I think LMDA is a great option with its light mysteries and interesting characters.

Both have as main character a lazy boy (Oreki in Hyouka, Kaito in R;N) who is in a school club without wantig to be (Classics club in Hyouka, Robotic Club in R;N) and he does nothing. Also both anime have a VERY active girl (Chitanda in Hyouka, Aki in R;N) who makes all move. During each anime, the boys fight to stay in their actual lifestyle, but this is not the plan of the girls and the world. Although the animes can look very different, I think they're similar in a lot of ways.
