I like this so much because it's easy going, easy watching and at the same time not rosy and all-is-well.
Conflicts are pretty intriguing, but non-violent. Though you can look at this in two ways. One way is that it's not very realistic. Another way is to say that spirits know that life is not without pain, but they are civil about it and are not fight-nuts, enemy crushers, like in most motion pictures.
I also like very much that there is not a pure white versus black, not evil vs. good thing. OK, I admit, it's a bit fairy tale, but at the same time
...
there are bad things that happen. They are just well embedded and explained story wise.
You could say this is a fairy tale which one CAN take as a guiding utopia, in contrast of most fairy tales which are just idealistic and black and white nonsense, especially Western ones.
I also like how minimalist the art is; I don't know if this was budget related or not, but I don't care, because it's done just the way it should be done, namely it gives the focus on expressions and emotions. It adds to the easy watching, but at the same time entertains and let you enjoy the events (and humor). It's an anime thing, but at its best.
