I just finished Amnesia and since it was recently aired, I decided to write a review and share my opinion. This is my first review!
STORY/PACING: 6.5/10
This story contained traveling between parallel dimensions, amnesia, and struggling to recover the main character's memories. And of course, a whole bunch of guys the main character could choose from (Since it was adapted from an Otome PSP game). It may sound cliché but it isn't as predictable as it sounds. It held a lot of suspense right to the last episode and plot was somewhat unique.
The pacing could be seen as either good or bad. Bad because
...
of the fact that you didn't know much of what was going on until the 7th or 8th episode, and good because since you didn't know much of what was going on, you'd want to keep watching. I am one of those people who like to come up with theories on what's going to happen which is why I didn't find the pacing bad. But there are others who prefer to know more about what's going on.
I was just not satisfied with the ending. The first episodes held a mysterious mood to them, but the ending was too magical and leaned more to the fantasy side. It just didn't really fit.
ART: 9/10
The art was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! You'd definitely enjoy the amazing and unique outfits and eyes. Not to mention the fact that you'll LOVE the guys too!
SOUND: 8/10
The opening and ending themes were one of the best two I've ever heard. Zoetrope (By Yanagi Nagi) had a very unique beat while Recall (By Ray) had a mysterious mood to it, fitting the anime perfectly. I'd usually skip the openings and endings but this anime had me listen to both all the way to the end.
The voice acting was good. All of the voices fit the characters pretty well.
CHARACTERS: 5.5/10
Not all of the characters were stereotypes, as some people put it. Sure, there was the lone-wolf, Mr. Popular, the childhood friend, the mysterious guy, and that super smart guy with hardly any emotion. But first of all, Ikki isn't all full of himself like what the Mr. Popular stereotype is actually like. And Toma is not that normal 'childhood friend'. Locking the one he loves in a cage to protect her, you'd think he was a Tsundere.
The main problem was the Heroine. (She doesn't have a name.) I also agree that she has the personality of a wooden board. Of course you would be quiet and shy if you had amnesia, but that doesn't mean you'll have no emotion at all. You barely see her smile, and I don't even think she laughs, though I may be wrong. She hardly talks, just stays in one place and does the occasional 'ehhh' and stares. When she gets kissed, she's frozen like a statue, eyes WIDE open. Oh, and the Heroine never makes a move to tell any of the guys her real feelings and her opinion. She gets pushed against a tree, forcefully kissed, and forgives them right away. She never gets angry.
And I really think Orion didn't really fit into this. Sure he's there to help the Heroine, but he just seems too... magical.
ENJOYMENT: 7/10
Seeing that I finished this anime in two days, I think I really enjoyed it. When I started, I just couldn't stop. The anime starts off pretty confusing, but that's what I liked about it. I didn't know what was going on, so I wanted to keep on watching and let the mystery unravel.
OVERALL: 7.5/10
Overall, I'd give this a 7.5. I rated it a 7 on my anime list because you can't do 0.5's.
This anime was really good in my opinion. This has just the right amount of romance and mystery combined. And the Heroine had scenes with all the guys so everyone's happy!
